Yucaipa-based Brew Rebellion announced a new production facility to be located near the old Norton Air Force Base. The brewery’s owners expect the plant to open on Oct. 1, Redlands Daily Facts reported on August 19.

The location of Brew Rebellion’s new production facility is especially close to the owner’s heart.

“It’s out there at the old Norton Air Force Base, which is kinda cool, because when I came back from Vietnam in 1970, I landed in a continental airliner not a hundred feet from where I’m putting in this brewery,” said co-founder Ed Parker.

The new facility will supplement the Yucaipa-based microbrewery’s California Street location, adding a 10-barrel brewing system, with 31 gallons per barrel.

Parker says the facility is still in the planning stage, but they intend to open their doors on Oct. 1.

Parker says they want to keep their operation relatively small on the whole, in order to keep their product homegrown.

“Since we’re small, it gives us an opportunity to be flexible and we do over 200 types of beer every year, and it’s fun to do that, and the larger guys, they can’t do that, they really need to focus on doing mass quantity,” said Parker.

In addition to expanding their production capabilities, the new facility will provide Brew Rebellion with the chance to continue their collaboration with local farmers. The brewery provides farmers with spent (used) grain to feed their livestock. Parker says the new facility will also use some of its spent grain to make dog biscuits, which will be given to animal shelters and rescue centers in the area.

Plans for further development of the facility are already in the works.

“I would say within the year we should have enough money to put a tasting room in there,” said Parker.

Parker hopes this new facility will help Brew Rebellion to continue its reputation for experimentation and locally produced beer.

“Compared to what everybody else does, we will still be very small,” said Parker. “And that’s our plan; when we say we make a handmade beer, it is made by hand. There’s no machinery involved, no nothing, it’s all handmade product.”
