Sherwood-based Two Kilts Brewing Co. announced that it would open a location in downtown Hillsboro in January. But last month, the company said the project was "delayed," despite city planners' approval of a site plan for the building at 313 E. Main St., between Third and Fourth avenues. And now, the Hillsboro location appears to be finished before it even started. The business said in a brief Facebook post over the weekend that "Hillsboro is not going to happen" and that it will remain in Sherwood, OregonLive.com reported on February 16.

After being prodded by commenters who demanded further explanation, the brewery followed up with another post.

"Definitely no disrespect for Hillsboro and their awesome community of people," the post reads. "You guys out there definitely help us thrive! The building unfortunately ended up not working for us. Lots of unexpected cash and problems with the building that we were unfortunately unable to fix with the landlord."

Ironically, the brewery wanted to come to Hillsboro because of reported problems with the city of Sherwood surrounding expansion plans.

In a September Facebook post announcing the new location, the company wrote that the decision had "everything to do with [Sherwood's] unwillingness to work with us and keep us there. When every city around them is the opposite. In fact we ended up in Hillsboro because the city is so proactive about working with small businesses and wanting to help them succeed."
