| E-Malt.com News article: Canada, ON: Craft beer consumption increases in Ontario
When Ontario drinkers raise a glass, more and more of them are choosing wine and craft beer. That's according to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario's most recent annual report, which encompasses the detailed data from 2013-14, Toronto Star reported on July 2.
The statistics show that craft beer sales are up 26.6 per cent.
While overall beer sales in Ontario declined — mostly at the privately owned Beer Store chain — domestic beer was up 3.3 per cent at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) (propelled by popular craft brews) with a 2.9 per cent increase in imports such as Heineken from the Netherlands and Corona from Mexico.
Cider sales skyrocketed 52.7 per cent with the Somersby brand growing 263 per cent over the previous year.
The LCBO buys products from 86 countries around the world.
