Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits, the acclaimed San Diego, California brewery, recently revealed plans to add Michigan to its distribution map. Expect to see the Ballast Point Brewing's bottles on store shelves before the end of the year, MLive.com reported on October 8.

The nautical-themed brewery is known for its Sculpin IPA and Victory at Sea porter. Longfin lager, Commodore stout and Even Keel session IPA are also among Ballast Point Brewing's flagship beers.

The announcement came not long after Grand Rapids, Michigan's Founders Brewing Co. revealed plans to distribute to California.

Founders Brewing Co. provides a good point of comparison to Ballast Point Brewing. According to a Brewers Association ranking, the Grand Rapids’ brewery ranked 23rd among all U.S. brewing companies in terms of beer sales volume in 2014, and Ballast Point Brewing came in at No. 37.

Ballast Point Brewing announced its new distribution plan on October 1 via social media. No specific details were available "due to the permitting process," according to a Ballast Point Brewing’s spokesperson.
