Layoffs in preparation for the MillerCoors Brewery closure may not be as immediate as previously thought, Greensboro News & Record reported on May 19.

The first round of layoffs, slated for June 3, was initially to include about 85 employees.

Recent employee claims, however, suggest that about 50 of those 85 employees will keep their jobs until a second round of layoffs in late July.

About 30 employees are expected to be laid off as previously scheduled.

The layoffs are postponed to continue production further into the year.

Representatives from MillerCoors could not be reached for comment.

“The good news about this is that those people will be employed for two more months than they thought, so that’s a good thing short term,” said Eden Economic Development Director Mike Dougherty.
