Three years in the making Hendersonville’s first craft brewery will soon be a reality, The Tennessean reported on November 2.

Nate Newton, owner of Half Batch Brewing, announced his company has secured property in the Hazel Path Commons Shopping Center, 393 East Main Street, at the former location of Curves in Hendersonville.

Newton, a former systems analysts for Dollar General Corporation, first approached the Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Alderman three years ago about his idea of opening a brewery.

Since Hendersonville’s municipal codes didn’t allow for a brewery to sell directly to consumers, Newton had to first convince city leaders to amend the city’s municipal code regarding the manufacture of beer. The ordinance passed in November 2014.

“It’s taken a long time to get here but it’s coming together and really we’re excited to be Hendersonville’s first craft brewer,” Newton said on Wednesday.

Since brewing his first batch of beer while in college at Louisiana State University back in 1995, Newton has wanted to his own craft brewery. “I’ve loved doing it from the first batch. It’s the perfect combination of science and art.”

Half Batch Brewing expects delivery of a 10 barrel – about 310 gallon - brewing system from manufacturer Deutsche Beverage Technology in time for a spring 2017 opening.

Newton plans to offer a variety of small batch brews along with seasonal craft beers.

His beers will initially be available on draft only, and will be on tap in the tavern section at the brewery. It will be sold at select restaurants, pubs, and growler filling stations throughout Sumner County, Newton said.

Newton's won't be the first brewery in Sumner County. Cottontown's BriarScratch Brewing in Cottontown opened in 2015.
