| E-Malt.com News article: USA, OH: Multiple Brewing opens its doors in Nelsonville, OH
Athens County’s newest craft beer brewery opened its doors near Nelsonville’s Public Square on November 5, Athens NEWS reported.
Jason Warren, owner of Multiple Brewing at 82 W. Washington St., said on November 5 that he wants to introduce craft beer to Nelsonville while improving the economic climate of the city. His brewery is the third brewery to open in Athens County since mid-2015, when Little Fish Brewery and Devil’s Kettle Brewing both opened their doors in the city of Athens. The breweries join Athens mainstay Jackie O’s.
Warren said he is excited to join the other breweries, and hopes Multiple’s opening will help encourage more tourists to visit.
“I think that (beer tourism) has been a big thing for Athens County,” he said, noting that tourism dollars will help Nelsonville grow.
Warren said in order to draw local customers, he’s offering simple, flavorful beer styles that will be accessible to local light beer drinkers who may not be the typical consumers of craft beer. With four taps, the brewery currently has:
• Variable IPA, a 6.1 percent single hop IPA
• Absolute Clementine, a 5.7 percent pale ale made with clementine rinds and juice.
• Rational Rye Porter, a 6.4 percent “light-bodied” dark porter made with rye.
• A house-made non-alcoholic cream soda.
Warren said he hopes to add more taps in the future, noting that more beers will be introduced in the coming months. He said he’s attempting to get some of his beers distributed elsewhere, including in Columbus; bottling individual beers may come later, he added.
Specifically, up next, Warren said, is an amber ale, and an imperial Russian coffee stout brewed with coffee from FullBrooks Café in Nelsonville.
Kevin Snider, an OU Scripps School of Communication graduate from Pickerington, came down to Athens County last weekend to visit the breweries. He was surprised when he found out about Multiple’s opening halfway through the weekend, and said he “had to make it down” to Nelsonville.
“It’s fun to see what people do with what they have and where they take their passions,” Snider said of Athens County’s beer styles.
Snider said he's excited to see Multiple grow, and said his favorite beer of the night was the porter because of its “deep, toasty flavor.”
Multiple Brewing’s current hours are Tuesday to Friday 4-10 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m, although those hours may change.
