Two local friends and business partners are excited to fulfill their dream of opening a microbrewery in Montclair sometime this summer after a few years of selling home brewing supplies at a light industrial property in the city, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reported on March 6.

Kyle Arroyo, 29, of Chino and Jeovanni Solorzano, 28, of Fontana opened up Revolt Homebrew Supply, 8939 Vernon Ave., almost three years ago, after having found a passion for home brewing and craft beer themselves.

With the craft beer industry experiencing major growth in the Inland Empire in recent years, Arroyo and Solorzano knew the time was right to open their own brewery. The pair submitted plans to the city, leased more industrial space in their building, and were recently awarded a conditional use permit for the new business, Revolt Brewing Co., which will be located adjacent to their home brew supply business.

Construction on the new space will begin in the coming weeks.

“Once we started doing this, we got inspired by some of the local breweries opening up and we thought, ‘Hey, I think we can do this. Let’s give it a shot,’ ” Arroyo said.

Once Revolt Brewing Co. opens, the pair plans to place special focus on their favorite style of beer, India Pale Ale, more commonly referred to as IPA. The flavor of an IPA is dominated by the hops flower.

“It’s going to be a very hop-forward brew house,” Solorzano said. “We’re big hop-heads. We like West Coast-style IPAs. We like other styles as well, but if I had to choose, it’s always going to be an IPA to drink first.”

The menu will start out small at six or seven beers, Arroyo said, which will be expanded upon in the future. In addition to the IPA, the pair plan to serve a double IPA, a red ale, a blonde ale and a pale ale.

“We’re going to specialize in brewing beers for brewers — just very straightforward, true-to-style beers,” Arroyo said.

Industry experts say there are about 40 brewers in the San Bernardino and Riverside county region, which is known for less expensive industrial space than what a brewer would find on the coast. The Inland Empire hasn’t received the same level of widespread recognition as craft breweries in San Diego or the Bay Area, but local brewers are hopeful the Inland Empire will become more well-known throughout the nation for quality beer.

“As long as each city does their part to get tourists to stop by, because the airport is in the area, we have the Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario Mills and Victoria Gardens,” Solorzano said, “and we keep developing businesses like that, people will come out here, but (if they) also support their local craft breweries, I think people will make (the Inland Empire) a destination.”

Revolt Brewing Co. will be the second brewery to open in Montclair after another pair of entrepreneurs recently opened Dragon’s Tale Brewery, 8920 Vernon Ave., across the street from Revolt Home Brew Supply.

“It’s a good thing for the breweries,” said Susan Elias, co-owner of Dragon’s Tale Brewery. “Usually we work together to help each other out, so to have one across the street, people can walk back and forth across the two breweries, and Rök House (Brewing Co.) in Upland is only a mile away.”

Businesses occupying space next to Revolt Home Brew Supply are also happy to see the potential for increased foot traffic.

“It’s good because (Revolt’s customers) can see everybody else’s business and we have no problem with it,” said Rose Moreno, office manager for MCC Carpet Cleaning, which is next door to the future brewery. “These (breweries) are popping up all over and these guys know what they’re doing.”

Julie Diaz, owner of D Deals Specialty Hardware located next to the future brewery, also wishes the brewery well.

“We have a lot of foot traffic here as well,” Diaz said. “We don’t see it as a bad thing. Expansion of business is good.”
