E-Malt.com News article: USA, NC: Paddled South Brewing ready to open its doors in High Point
Brewery news

A new craft beer brewery two years in the making is ready to open its doors in downtown High Point, the Yahoo News reported on May 15.

Paddled South Brewing has announced it will open May 27 at 602 N. Main St.

"We've been working on it just about two years now," said Patrick Watterson, who co-owns the brewery with Dave Nissen. "Of course, the challenge was getting things going and then COVID hit and kind of shut down everything. But timing-wise, it's probably worked out better."

The brewery is leasing a 1,600-square-foot space next to Atlantic Realty and Property Management.

"The space is in a very unique building. The building is from 1935 and we've got 14-foot ceilings with it, so it's a very open concept," Watterson said.

The interior includes a mural that's 50 feet long and there are two large glass garage doors in the front and rear of the building.

The inside includes a taproom with space for 49 people, and there is also outdoor space for seating.

The brewery plans on having nine or 10 beers on tap, all of which will be the owners' recipes. Nissen is the head brewer.

They have an interest in multiple beer styles, such as traditional IPAs, Pilsners, pale ales, wheats, stouts and porters, as well as German and Belgian beers.

"We've got a six-barrel system. The nice thing with that is, we can kind of change beers rapidly," said Watterson. "So it gives us some ability to do some unique beers and keep a good variety going."

He said he thinks the brewery is in a prime location near Truist Point stadium and several Peters Development projects.

"We're one block away from the stadium, so it's an easy walk," Watterson said. "The other thing is, Dr. Peters is developing quite a bit right in that block on Main Street, so there's going to be 40 apartments right down next to the Dog House. And he's got a new building that's going to have retail on the first floor right at the corner of Westwood and Main. So there's a lot of development, literally across the street."
