E-Malt.com News article: USA, IA: 1717 Brewing Co. to close for good this weekend

After four years in business in the Market District east of downtown Des Moines, a brewery plans to close this weekend. Say so long to 1717 Brewery Co. after the close of business on Sunday, December 4.

“We wanted to take a moment and thank you all for being with us on this fantastic journey, which is sadly at an end. We are closing the taproom at 1717 this Sunday at close of business,” the business wrote on Facebook.

“We loved meeting and serving you all, a lot of you have become family to us and we will miss you greatly. We consider it an honor of a lifetime that you would include us in your daily life, celebrations and heartaches alike. We loved being there for all of it and wouldn't trade this experience for anything.”

Matt, Phil and Jerry Glenn opened 1717 Brewing Co. at 322 E. Court Ave. in 2018 after working at the now-defunct Number 7 Brewing Co. in Ankeny. The taproom paid homage to the Glenns’ childhood home in the River Bend neighborhood, with a walk-in cooler decorated like a scaled down version of the home that welcomed so many.

In October, Mistress Brewing in Ankeny closed, as did Craft Bru Taproom, a bar that specialized in beers just south of downtown Des Moines.

In the past year, the neighborhood gained Twisted Vine Brewery, which made the move from West Des Moines in June, and Barrel House, an American restaurant out of Davenport that has its own robot server.
