Sun Interbrew, the Russian unit of Interbrew and Sun Group, will cut 10 percent of jobs by the end of 2003 to boost efficiency and help save 4 million euros ($4 million) next year, the general manager said on Thursday, December 5. "I looked at it as a realignment because of equipment put into the factories in the last three-year period," Joe Strella said. "It gives the opportunity to produce more ... with fewer people." He said Russian labor laws made redundancies expensive, but that efficiency savings would be substantial. "I do feel that by managing head office and brewery expenses better we can save approximately 4 million euros during the year 2003," Strella said.
