42 North Brewing Company is proposing a downtown location. East Aurora’s popular brewery is taking space in the Wurlitzer Flats building at 674 Main Street. The news comes via a submittal to the Preservation Board seeking permission to install signs on the Theater District building, the Buffalo Rising reported on June 21.

Drew Blum renovated the former Tent City Building with commercial space on the ground floor and one large apartment on each of the four upper levels. The circa-1895 Beaux Arts style building was erected to house the business of A.E. Perren, a manufacturer of carriages, sleighs and harness. For sixty years, it served as a store for the Buffalo Wurlitzer Company which vacated the site in 1977. Tent City-Washington Surplus Center occupied the building until early-2020.

42 North opened its taps in 2015.
