| E-Malt.com News article: USA, WA: Woodinville’s Sumerian Brewing closing down
Sumerian Brewing of Woodinville, Washington is closing down. This development marks an end as well as a beginning. Watts Brewing will move into the space, taking over the equipment and the taproom. Same location, same brewery, different beer, different owners, the Washington Beer Blog reported on August 17.
Sumerian Brewing opened in 2015 and was founded and owned by Holly and Mark Ihrig, who have decided to move on and explore other opportunities. We’re told that Sumerian Brewery’s employees will carry on as part of the new enterprise. A notable exception, head brewer Tyson Schiffner is exiting the beer biz and has accepted a position in a beer-adjacent industry.
Watts Brewing, currently in Bothell, Washington, opened in 2016. Evan Watts is the founder and brewer. Until now, it has operated as a production-only brewery, distributing beer very locally. That’s about to change as the company takes over a much larger brewery, one that includes a taproom. We will share more about Watts’ plans in a follow-up story.
But before that happens, the Sumerian Brewing taproom will host one more soiree, a kill-the-kegs sort of event. Details TBD. Keep an eye on Sumerian Brewing’s social media channels: Facebook and Instagram.
Holly Ihrig says that the announcement of Sumerian Brewing’s closing comes with mixed emotions. “Over the years, we have had the privilege of serving you and providing you with quality brews, and for that, we are profoundly grateful.”
Holly says she has nothing but warmth in her heart for the time and effort she and her husband have put into the business. She is especially proud of the many great moments and celebrations that Sumerian Brewing and its taproom have hosted for, and with, the community.
“We have seen friendships blossom, celebrations held, and memories created within the walls of our establishment, and we will forever cherish those moments.”
“Our journey in the beer industry has been nothing short of amazing,” said Holly. “From the creation of unique and flavorful concoctions to seeing the joy on your faces as you sipped our beverages, we have cherished every moment. However, after careful consideration, we have come to the decision to close this chapter in our lives.”
“Please know that this decision was not taken lightly. We have poured our hearts and souls into this business, and now it is time for us to embark on new adventures and pursue different passions. We will continue to own and manage Cellars Wine Club and pursue building Senior Apartments.”
“Though we may be bidding farewell to the beer industry, our memories, and the relationships we’ve formed will always remain with us. We encourage you to continue exploring the world of craft beer, seeking out new flavors, and supporting local breweries. The beer community is filled with enthusiastic individuals who are dedicated to creating exceptional brews, and we are confident that you will find new favorites along your beer journey.”
“Once again, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of you. It has been an honor to be a part of your lives, and we will forever remember the smiles, laughter, and conversations we shared. We hope that our paths may cross again in the future, and until then, we raise a final glass to you, our valued patrons.”
