| E-Malt.com News article: USA, FL: Steam Horse Brewing Co. closes its doors in West Palm Beach
West Palm Beach's Steam Horse Brewing Co. officially closed their doors on Friday, Sept. 20 and they absolutely did not "go gentle into that good night." In fact, they raged in the form of a huge house party they dubbed "Kick the Keg", Yahoo News reported.
Owner and master brewer Fran Andrewlevich said "it was absolutely off the rails and packed." He said he had many loyal patrons come up to him expressing both joy and sadness saying "this is our place."
Opened in August of 2018, the brewery at 1500 Elizabeth Ave. was the sister brewery of Tequesta Brewing Co. and Twisted Trunk Brewing Co. in Palm Beach Gardens.
Though it had been open for six years, Andrewlevich said the last couple years were "really slow" to the point they were losing money, he said. "During the pandemic we got crushed and never really recovered."
To make things even tougher, Andrewlevich said that just as the world was coming out of the pandemic, "the city closed the street in front of us for eight months," making it nearly impossible for patrons to get to Steam Horse.
In addition to the pandemic and the street closure, he said the economy is "just that bad."
"The regular guy goes out three times a month instead of four and there's 25% of our business," he said. "The extras get cut out."
Fans of Steam Horse's flagship beer, Steam Horse Lager, may be relieved to know there are plans to continue brewing and serving it at Twisted Trunk Brewing Co.
