| E-Malt.com News article: USA, WA: Boundary Bay Brewery to close its Bellingham location next year
Boundary Bay Brewery announced on November 8 plans to close its Railroad Avenue location next year, as the owners retire and the building goes up for sale, Cascadia Daily reported.
Boundary Bay is Bellingham’s oldest brewery; 2025 marks its 30th year in business, and business will continue as usual until September 2025.
Owners Ed Bennett and Janet Lightner explained the reasons for the closure in a heartfelt online statement posted Friday, Nov. 8, entitled “Cheers to 30 Years: Celebrating Boundary Bay Brewery’s Final Year on Railroad Avenue.”
“It’s time for us to retire,” they wrote, “which coincides with the Boundary building going up for sale by the building’s owner.”
Boundary Bay bills itself as “the first, the third and the oldest craft brewery in Bellingham,” having outlasted its original competitors. Today, they’re one of about 15 breweries in Bellingham and known for their family-friendly beer garden and community events.
“We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we know that Boundary’s service and values will remain consistent throughout the year, allowing us to remain the Boundary brand we have always been,” Bennett and Lightner continued. “We wanted to let our community know now so we can fully enjoy our final year together.”
