 | E-Malt.com News article: USA, OH: Black Diamond Development purchases, rebrands Marietta Brewing Company
Black Diamond Brewery & Distillery will be the fifth Black Diamond food and beverage location in Ohio after acquiring the Marietta Brewing Company at 167 Front St. in May, News and Sentinel reported on May 17.
After owners Tony and Dana Styer announced in a Facebook post on Sept. 12, 2024, that they were putting the Marietta Brewing Company up for sale, they limited hours of operation until it was bought out.
The post from the Styers stated that putting their company up for sale after 15 years of community support wasn’t an easy decision for them to make.
On May 13, they announced publicly that the brewery had been officially sold to Black Diamond as the Black Diamond Brewery & Distillery Marietta. The distillery was acquired by the Black Diamond Development Company LLC which is a company that seeks to own historical properties no less than 100 years old around southeast Ohio.
“We’re excited to come to the area and we really appreciate the previous owners for working so closely with us to make this possible,” said spokesperson for Black Diamond Adam Fowler. “Our goal is to pay tribute to their legacy and revitalize the space by staying true to its history.”
Fowler grew up in Coolville and is currently a resident in Nelsonville as well as one of the owners of the Nelsonville Black Diamond Brewery & Distillery.
He’s been part of the Marietta project since January but has worked in various positions with the company for about five years.
Fowler stated that the name Black Diamond pays tribute to the grit of those who came to the area during the coal mining era and it represents hard work and dedication.
“We’re not going to come in and paint all the walls and cover everything up,” said Fowler. “We plan on having taste tests during the summer and including some menu items and brews from the previous company.”
In a press release from Black Diamond, “the new establishment will continue the longstanding tradition of high-quality craft beer while introducing a bold new vision rooted in community, heritage, and revitalization.”
Black Diamond has locations in Shawnee, Nelsonville, Circleville and now Marietta with the hope to continue expanding in 2025.
The location in Marietta will feature Black Diamond craft beers and spirits, legacy brews from the Marietta Brewing Company, and a menu similar to the one at the Circleville location.
To honor and protect the history of the building and prior occupants, Black Diamond Brewery & Distillery Marietta will showcase the previous architectural and interior details.
According to Fowler, they plan on keeping the interior murals and staying true to the history of the town by hiring locally.
While there is currently no opening date set, Black Diamond is working on hiring a team of individuals to ensure the space is ready for operation. Fowler said they would like to open by the summer but they want to take their time and open when all of the details are finalized to create an establishment commendable by the community.
