E-Malt.com News article: Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd appointed a new Chairman

Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd (CBMB) announced in a statement this week it has appointed Datuk Lim Say Chong as its chairman with effect from June 22 2005 following the resignation of Datuk Jorgen Bornhoft. Lim is the first Malaysian chairman of the CBMB board.

Carlsberg Breweries senior vice-president Jesper Madsen said the CBMB board has accepted Bornhoft’s decision to resign, adding that “we also accept his wishes to have more time for new business challenges in Malaysia and Asia”.

“During Bornhoft’s 14 years with CBMB, he has made a tremendous impact and his contribution to the company has been outstanding and his services will be greatly missed,” Madsen said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Bornhoft joined CBMB in 1991 as its chief executive officer and was promoted to managing director in 1995 and subsequently as the company’s chairman in 2003. During his tenure, he played a significant role in developing the market leadership position and impressive financial performance of Carlsberg in Malaysia.

Lim was appointed as an independent non-executive director on the CBMB Board as well as a member of the CBMB Audit Committee on May 21 2003. Lim is currently on the board of several public-listed companies and also served in various associations including the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry, National Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia and British Malaysian Industry & Trade Association.

“The board believes that Lim, with his experience, will provide CBMB with the guidance to further develop CBMB’s market leadership position in the Malaysian brewery industry,” the statement said.
