The year 2004 will experience market pressure, as the malting industry goes through a phase of major capacity expansion. In Russia Ochakovo, Krasny Vostok and Sun Interbrew have been enlarging their plants. A commercial maltster, Amrus, is building a 100.000 tons tower South of Moscow. In Slovakia Heineken has expanded his capacity in Hurbanovo and can produce 140.000 tons of malt. In the EU construction work and projects are: Viking, Halmstad, 100.000 tons, Boortmalt, Antwerp, 100.000 tons, Malteurop, Vitry-le-François, 70.000 tons, Agrial, Caen, 100.000 tons. It is interesting that 300.000 tons of the projected new capacities would be able to load directly into ocean-going vessels. ConAgra closed an old capacity of 65.000 tons in Los Angeles. A large factory is projected in Montana.
