In January this year Ukraine exported 255,000 tonnes of barley, which is by 32,000 tonnes or 11% les than the month before. Average export price in January rose to $86.3 per ton from $81.9 per tonne in December.
Despite general decrease of shipments, sales to Saudi Arabia continued to grow. In the month in review they constituted 219,000 tons or 86% of the whole monthly export. Amounts close to 10,000 tonnes went to Cyprus, Algeria and Israel.
Over the seven months of the marketing year (MY - July to June) Ukraine exported 2.24 million tons of barley, which exceeds the export in the corresponding period of the past season by less than 1%. Over the whole 2002/02 MY Ukraine exported 2.8 million ton of barley. APK-Inform estimates the export in February to have constituted some 200,000 to 220,000 tonnes.
