| E-Malt.com News article: Germany: A new honorary professor appointed at the Institute for Biotechnology and Brewing Technology at Berlin University of Technology
Dr.-Ing. Gustavo Möller-Hergt, Chief Representative and Managing Director of the Warsteiner Brewery, Germany, has been appointed as new honorary professor at the Institute for Biotechnology at Berlin University of Technology (TU), Versuchs- und Lehranstalt fuer Brauerei in Berlin announced on September 13. He received his letter of appointment from TU President Prof. Dr. Kurt Kutzler in July. Dr. Möller-Hergt teaches “Technical Management” to students of biotechnology, food technology, brewing technology and for attendees of VLB’s “Certified Brewmaster Course”.

Hence we are always very pleased when we win over senior managers from the industry to share their knowledge and experience with our students”, lauds TU President Kutzler on the involvement of his new honorary professor. The latter sees his additional job as a form of personal thanks: “Germany has offered me lots of opportunities. I feel I must give something in return. With my involvement at TU Berlin I would like to help to prepare the next generation for the future challenges of business”, is how Möller-Hergt describes his motivation.
An honorary professor is granted to those who have contributed significantly to a university. They hold lectures but are mainly involved in their business besides the university. Dr. Möller-Hergt has published several scientific papers and received his PhD with a dissertation about flavour stability of beer. He has been teaching at Berlin University of Technology for several years. The study programme “Biotechnology“ has been offered in Berlin since 1986, the study programme “Brewing Technology” in different variations since 1904.
Personal data Gustavo Möller-Hergt (44) studied brewing technology at TU Munich. Additionally he graduated in management at Harvard Business School in Boston, USA and did his PhD at Berlin University of Technology. For 14 years he has been working for the international Warsteiner Group – the sole owner of the Warsteiner Brewery. In 1996 he became Managing Director of the Warsteiner Brewery, since 2003 he has also been Chief Representative of the group. Möller-Hergt is chairman of the supervisory board of Brewery Casa Isenbeck in Argentinia and since has been a 2004 member of the advisory board of Deutsche Bank AG in Bielefeld, Germany.
Berlin University of Technology (Technische Universität Berlin – TU Berlin) With round about 28,000 students the TU Berlin is one of the major technical universities in Germany. Its Institute for Biotechnology is part of the Faculty for Process Science. The graduate engineer in Brewing Science is integrated into the study programme for Biotechnology. In addition, a study programme “Graduate Brewmaster" is offered by TU Berlin
Versuchs- und Lehranstalt für Brauerei in Berlin (VLB) e.V. (Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing in Berlin) Founded in 1883 VLB Berlin is an independent institute which offers research, training and service for the brewing and beverage industry. As a long-term co-operation partner of TU Berlin, VLB conducts major parts of education in the field of brewing science. In addition, VLB offers several training courses for brewing related topics for a national and international clientele.
