The Danish Ministry of Taxation is considering slashing the current packaging levy on beer and other beverages after estimating that a 40% cut could give the Danish state an income of DKK 20m, Berlingske Tidende writes. Today, Denmark's brewers and beverage makers pay DKK 0.50 per 33 cl bottle, and the Danish Brewers' Association (Bryggeriforeningen) is trying to have the levy completely abolished.
The levy is mentioned as one of the reasons why so many Danes prefer to travel to Germany to buy their beer much cheaper there.
