Krasnii Vostok
brewery from Kazani (Russia) is planning to build
2 new malting plants with an annual capacity of 100 000 tonnes and 40 000 tonnes accordingly.
The total cost of this investment is estimated at US$60m.

AmBev is going to invest
US$40m in a new brewery in Peru. This will permit
AmBev to try to introduce its products into the Andean region. It will not
be easy because of stiff competition from Union de Cervecerias Peruanas
Backus & Johnston, or Backus, which is controlled by Colombia's Bavaria
and has a virtual monopoly in the market.

Interbrew (Belgium)
is considering legal action against the Slovenian
competition authorities if Pivovarna Lasko, Slovenia’s largest brewer
is allowed to take over Pivovarna Union. Interbrew controls 41% of Union
while Lasko controls 48%. The two have been battling for control of the
brewer for about a year.

Baltica has begun
the construction of a new malting plant in Tyla (Russia)
with an annual capacity of 105 000 tonnes. The volume of needed investment
is estimated at US$32m.
