India: United Breweries stock surges on news Heineken may hike its stake in the company
|
United Breweries shares surged 9 pct to a 14-month high on January 7 on news channel CNBC TV 18 saying Heineken was likely to hike stake in the company, Reuters reported.
Heineken currently owns 39.01 pct in the company, as per BSE data.
Vijay Mallya group companies own 35.81 pct in United Breweries, and about half of this stake is pledged, according to Reuters calculations.
Heineken and United Breweries were not immediately reachable for comment.

US: AB InBev settles lawsuit over Kirin beer origin it sells in the US
|
Anheuser-Busch InBev has settled a lawsuit over deceptive marketing tied to the origin of the two brands of Kirin beer it sells in the US, Seeking Alpha reported on January 6.
The brewer was accused of misleading consumers into believing Kirin was a pure import. Consumers who purchased Kirin beer in the U.S. between October of 2009 and December of 2014 can claim a payment of $0.50 per six-pack.
A-B has a long alliance with Japanese brewer Kirin which allows it to sell and market the beers in the U.S.

Ethiopia: SABMiller teams with Southwest Development PLC to establish new liquor factory in Ethiopia
|
Southwest Development PLC, an Ethiopian investment company, and its partner, SABMiller, the South African London-based brewery, have once again teamed up to establish a totally new liquor factory in Ethiopia, Ethiosports reported on January 4.
The new company, CAPTS SC, is established at a total investment capital of 70 million birr. Company sources said CAPTS SC built a liquor manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Ambo town, Senkele locality. Sources said the product brand called Black Lion includes whiskey, vodka, gin, ouzo, and cream. The new liquor factory has the capacity to produce 10,000 litres of liquor per hour. The new company will start supplying the Ethiopian market with new products in the coming few weeks. The company will also export the new products to African countries and the US. CAPTS SC will soon hold an official product launch ceremony in Addis Ababa.
SouthWest and SABMiller first forged partnership and bought the Ambo mineral water factory from the Ethiopian government in 2009 and made more than 30 million USD on expansion project that has transformed the company. SABMiller and Southwest also take majority control of the Coca Cola bottling business in Ethiopia as part of the recently announced Coca Cola Beverages Africa
