USA, MA: Two Weeks Notice Brewing preparing to open in Westfield this fall

Sitting in his cubicle one day thinking about his hopes to one day open a brewery, Mark Avery said to himself, “I can’t wait until I can give my two-weeks notice.”
And just like that, the future Westfield nanobrewery had its name, Reminder Publications reported on May 6.
Avery has nothing against his current employer, but the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream is something he’s been eager to obtain.
The Southwick resident and his partner, Rich DeSouza, are in the midst of a large-scale project to bring a Two Weeks Notice Brewing Company to Westfield with the goal of opening in the fall.
“I’ve always had an interest in brewing even before I got into home brewing. I wanted to be involved in the brewing industry in some way,” Avery said. “I emailed breweries and applied for jobs and never got anything back because I just didn’t have any experience.”
His first experience with brewing actually came in a very similar manner to most home brewers.
“My wife got me one of those Mr. Beer kits,” he said. “That was the first thing I ever brewed and ever since then I knew this was what I wanted to do.”

USA, VA: Tradition Brewing Company plans to open its doors on June 25

Newport News residents can look forward to a few new local brews in time for the summer, Daily Press reported on May 7.
Tradition Brewing Company plans to open its doors at 700 Thimble Shoals Blvd. in Newport News' City Center on June 25.
During a grand opening event, Tradition will serve a selection of seasonal and year-round brews that will become available in 15 to 30 local restaurants, including County Grill, Smoke and Harpoon Larry's, as well as food trucks on-site and live music.
"We're excited to be part of everything," Bowditch said.

USA, CA: Mother Earth Brew Co. to open new production facility this summer

Vista’s biggest brewing company is on the cusp of being able to make a whole lot more beer, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported on May 11.
Mother Earth Brew Co. plans to open up a new production facility this summer near Boise, Idaho, after purchasing and remodeling an old seed factory in the suburban community of Nampa.
But neither Mother Earth’s Vista brewery nor its downtown Vista tasting room are going anywhere, said Kevin Hopkins, the company’s chief branding officer.
Demand for Mother Earth’s product drove the need for the expansion, he said.
“The beer is sold before we get a drop of it out,” Hopkins said. The new site will “take the pressure off Vista.”
The company searched for more than a year, hoping to find a suitable site in San Diego for a larger production facility. With no perfect fit, they eventually looked at four other western states before settling on Idaho.
The Idaho Business Review reported in January that Mother Earth would be the largest craft beer brewer in the state if it should meet its projections of 22,000 barrels in the first year.

USA, WY: Accomplice Beer Co. expects to open next month in Cheyenne
|
The empty restaurant space in the historic Cheyenne Depot downtown will soon be back in action with the addition of the city’s third microbrewery, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported on May 10.
Accomplice Beer Co. expects to open next month, and its liquor licensing permits are moving through Cheyenne City Council now.
“Everything is a go,” Wyoming Rib and Chop House manager Wade Lancaster said. “We hope to open June 6, barring any complications.”
Accomplice Beer Co. will be a sibling to Wyoming Rib and Chop House, a popular local eatery on West Lincolnway.
Wyoming Rib and Chop House will remain at its location, and the two enterprises will be distinct from one another.
While Accomplice will be a microbrewery, it won’t be producing its own beer on-site until the fall.
The holdup is due to long delays in the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s permitting process – the same issue that pushed back the opening of Danielmark’s Brewing in Cheyenne earlier this year.
In the meantime, Accomplice will feature beers from around Wyoming and Northern Colorado until its own beer production is up and running, Lancaster said.
Additionally, Accomplice’s brewmaster, Jerod Day, will be working with breweries in Colorado and Wyoming on collaboration beers

USA, IL: Stubborn German Brewing now open in Waterloo
|
Stubborn German Brewing Co., located at 119 S. Main St. in Waterloo, is now open and boasts “real German beer in a real German town made by real Stubborn Germans”, Belleville-News Democrat reported on May 6.
Stubborn German owner Chris Rahn said there are 12 beers on tap at the brewery. They’re mostly German styles but he said there are also a few American styles.
“We’ve gotten really good feedback. Haven’t heard a peep about anything bad with the beer,” he said.
Rahn said his next task is to dial in on which brews are most popular so he can brew more.

USA, OH: Masthead Brewing Co. scheduled to join Cleveland’s beer scene this fall
|
Cleveland breweries often like to evoke the past in their names or beer styles they produce. When Masthead Brewing Co. opens downtown, it will draw on history that dates to the 1700s, Cleveland.com reported on May 10.
Moses Cleaveland – with the extra letter included – founded the city in 1796. By 1830, the city's population had just topped 1,000. As the story goes, when the Cleveland Advertiser was getting ready to begin publication, the newspaper editors realized they had a big problem that had to be solved quickly: 'Cleaveland' would not fit on the masthead.
"So we kind of imagined the editors got around a table, had a few beers, and instead of changing the name they said 'Why don't we just drop the A in Cleveland?' " said Frank Luther, one of the owners of the startup brewery. "Lo and behold, it worked. It fits our spirit."
That spirit is culminating with a lot of work, planning and a location chosen among scores of options for Luther and brewer Mike Pelechaty, and Matthew Slife, who came aboard 14 months ago.
"Four years ago we knew we wanted to do it," Luther said, "but we didn't know where it was going to be."

USA, ID & MT & WY: Payette Brewing Company expanding distribution

Payette Brewing Company, Idaho’s largest brewery and makers of Rustler IPA, is thrilled to announce they will begin distribution in Montana and Wyoming this month with Oklahoma on the horizon, Brewbound.com reported.
“With the proximity of Wyoming and Montana to Idaho and the growth in those states towards craft beers made this an easy decision for us at Payette Brewing Company. The distributors have been very excited about us entering these states and have been supportive on making it happen. We wanted to make sure we could supply these states with inventory and our new brewing facility with over 100,000 barrel capacity is now allowing us to expand in more markets,” said Tyler Stucky Director of Sales and Marketing.
Payette Brewing’s full line up, including year-round and seasonal beers, will be ready to pack in for any adventure. Montana and Wyoming will be the sixth and seventh state Payette Brewing adds to their distribution portfolio, following Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Payette will partner with four distributors in Montana and six distributors in Wyoming allowing state wide coverage.

Myanmar: Myanmar Brewery to ramp up beer output by about 10%
|
Myanmar Brewery will ramp up its beer production capacity by about 10% to keep up with increasing local consumption amid economic growth, Nikkei Asian Review reported on May 12.
The group member of Japan's Kirin Holdings will spend hundreds of millions of yen (100 million yen equals $917,200) to add equipment such as fermentation tanks, a key component in beer brewing, at its plant in Yangon. With the installation work already underway, the new equipment is slated to begin operation by year-end to increase production of the signature Myanmar Beer brand. This will raise the company's capacity, which stands at just over 200,000 kilolitres a year, by 30,000 kl.
Myanmar Brewery sold 220,000 kl of beer last year, commanding 80% of the Southeast Asian nation's market. Beer demand is growing, particularly among young people, with sales more than doubling over the last three years.
And competition is heating up, with Danish brewer Carlsberg and the Netherlands' Heineken each launching production with local partners last year. Both have been lifting sales, offering low-priced products in addition to their signature brands.

Namibia & South Africa: Namibia Breweries Ltd. has no plans to move beer production to South Africa yet

Namibia Breweries Limited has no plans to move beer production to South Africa as the water crisis around Windhoek becomes more serious, The Namibian reported on May 13.
NBL managing director Wessie van der Westhuizen told The Namibian this week that as of 1 April, the company has managed to comply with the 30% water consumption reduction as per the City of Windhoek’s request.
“While further investments and initiatives are well on track to achieve the 70% saving by the end of July 2016, our application to drill a third borehole off site from the NBL premises was rejected by the City of Windhoek, which obviously puts strain on the 70% target. However, we are busy with the next round of negotiations with the city,” Van der Westhuizen stated.
In addition to the two onsite boreholes, Namibia Breweries has invested in a pre−water treatment plant.
“The NBL will see no additional volume migration to Sedibeng (in South Africa), other than what is stipulated in the contract. It is still our objective to become self−sufficient in water. Therefore, there are no additional migration plans at this stage, subject to approval from the City of Windhoek to drill additional boreholes,” he said.
