A MATURED HOP EXTRACT AS MEDICINAL ELIXIR?

ABSTRACT
To conserve alpha and oil in hop pellets, we do everything we can - but maybe this is not always necessary, especially in regard to medicinal value! Studies have demonstrated that the consumption of iso-alpha acids helps to reduce obesity, and now these Japanese researchers have shown the same effect for oxidised bitter acids, e.g. humulinones, hulupones, and tricyclooxyisohumulones. In this study, hop pellets were stored at 60 degrees Celsius for two days and subsequently extracted for medicinal trials. They were able to show that the addition of 0.2% of this extract to a high fat diet induced fat burning leading to body fat reduction.

Brewery news Canada, ON: Sir Monty’s Brewing to open its doors in Courtice on July 14th
Ontario Beverage Network reports that a new brewery is opening on July 14th in the community of Courtice in Ontario’s Durham Region.

Sir Monty’s Brewing has been founded by Adam Perrin, and is named after his late dog Monty who is featured on the brewery logo.

Located at 1540 Durham Regional Highway 2 adjacent to Stuttering John’s Smokehouse, the brewery and taproom will be offering a variety of beers including “a blonde, Kolsch, IPA, Irish red, milk stout, saison, Belgian golden ale, and a bacon stout.”

The launch party takes place on July 14 starting at 6:00 PM, featuring food from Stuttering John’s and live music by SoulBound.

Brewery news USA, FL: Dog Rose Brewing Co. to become St. Augustine’s first brewery soon
Downtown St. Augustine will soon see its first brewery open at 77 Bridge St. The 5,000-square-foot space, previously an airy, high-ceilinged art gallery, will host a brewery and taproom called Dog Rose Brewing Co. with about 40 seats, the Jacksonville Business Journal reported on July 12.

The plan fell into place when owner and co-founder Doug Muur, who worked for A1A ale works for nearly 15 years, was laid off when the company stopped brewing. A nice severance package and a fair deal on the company’s brewing equipment led him to open his own shop.

“I’m really excited to be part of this neighborhood,” Muur said. “It’s been so tourist heavy. You can have a bar you think is yours but then you walk in and you don’t know a soul. What the locals want is a place that’s theirs. That’s a big part of my focus: making sure we are here for Lincolnville.”

Much of Dog Rose’s trajectory will be decided by the clientele, Muur said. If the customers want music, they will get music. If they want a certain kind of beer, the team can make that happen.

Muur said that if all continues as planned with the construction, the brewery should ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, ON: Signal Brewery to officially launch in Corbyville on July 23
Nearly a month after its originally announced opening had to be postponed for the completion of construction, Signal Brewery has confirmed a new opening date, just after giving an advance taste of its beers to attendees at a local community event, Canadian Beer News reported on July 11.

Three brands – Wave Pale Ale, Byte IPA, and Ohm Altbier – made their public debut this past weekend (July 8-9) at the Belleville Waterfront Festival, where Signal was featured alongside several other local breweries in the craft beer garden.

Signal’s official launch is set to take place on Sunday July 23rd with an opening party at the brewery, located in the former Corby Distillery complex at 87 River Road in Corbyville. The festivities will kick off at 5:00 PM, and will feature beer, food, and a live performance by KC Roberts & the Live Revolution.

Brewery news Canada, ON: Cowbell Brewing aims at August opening in Blyth
After more than a year of construction, Cowbell Brewing has announced that its bricks-and-mortar brewery will be opening next month near the small community of Blyth in Ontario’s Huron County, Canadian Beer News reported on July 11.

Located at the corner of Highways 4 and 25, the 26,000 square foot destination brewery will open on August 5th.

Several Cowbell brands – including Absent Landlord Country Kolsch, Doc Perdue’s Bobcat West Coast Red Ale, and Kelly’s Contraption New World Hefeweizen – are available now at retail outlets, bars and restaurants throughout Ontario.

Brewery news USA, FL: The Dirty Oar Beer Company to start brewing own beer in August
The Dirty Oar Beer Company has dipped its paddle into the river of brews now flowing into Brevard County. The Cocoa Village establishment brings the Space Coast's brewery count up to 10, Florida Today reported on July 11.

While the brewery doesn't yet have any of its own beers on tap, it opened June 30 with 20 craft beers and ciders from across Florida.

"We're in the process of brewing our six core beers," said co-owner Paul Hill.

Opening a brewery isn't a quick process. Hill and his partners — Chris Hughes, Pat Buonomo and Mark Alderman — signed the lease on the former furniture and appliance store in January 2016.

Hill said he and his partners wanted to be in Cocoa Village, but first they had to find the right place, with enough room for a bar and the brewing operations. The taproom, brewery and beer garden are off King Street (State Road 520).

It took almost a year to complete the paperwork, then another six months to renovate the building.

The building dates back to the 1930s, said Buonomo. All the plumbing and electrical work had to be replaced, and tanks for brewing had to be installed, as well as a huge cooler ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NC: Heinzelmannchen Brewery closing for good on July 13
After 13 years in business, a Sylva brewery is calling it quits. Heinzelmannchen Brewery will close for good at the end of the night on July 13, WLOS reported.

Dieter Kuhn and his wife Sheryl Rudd say it's been an awesome journey that's been both a blessing and a challenge. Kuhn was a pioneer, opening Heinzelmannchen as an early craft brewery west of Asheville.

“Where townspeople come and gather and be...and enjoy themselves and get the news and drink a beer… So, and we've accomplished that,” Kuhn said.

The couple says it's time to unwind a little for health reasons. “And part of those health issues were the stress we were under,” Rudd said.

Rudd will help develop new businesses. Kuhn will brew beer at a nearby but still unnamed brewery.

“I think we're going to create a Facebook page that is, "Where's Dieter Brewing,” Rudd said. Kuhn pioneered the brewery trail west of Asheville.

“We looked to him and said, 'It is possible there is a market for it'," Clark Williams, who runs Frog Level Brewing Company in Waynesville, said.

Longtime customers rave about Kuhn’s recipes. “You can't beat the German beer,” Ian Beaver said.

This husband-wife team is proud to have located in Sylva. “This community from ...More info on site

Brewery news Australia: Craft brewers not locked out of bars by big brewers – competition watchdog
Australia’s competition watchdog on July 13 found craft brewers were not being locked out of bars because the likes of Carlton United Breweries and Lion were strong-arming publicans through exclusivity provisions and volume requirements, The West Australian reported.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigation looked at 36 venues in NSW and Victoria and found deals between those businesses and the big brewers were not likely to substantially lessen competition.

The complaints stemmed from allegations Lion and CUB were forcing bars to devote four beer taps out of five to name brands in exchange for cheap beer and other incentives.

“Although some venues had exclusivity arrangements, most pubs and clubs said they did not feel constrained from allocating taps to smaller brewers and could make taps available for craft beer if necessary,” ACCC deputy chairman Michael Schaper said.

“While some craft brewers may have been refused access to taps by certain venues, our investigation found that the venues were responding to consumer demand for certain beer brands, rather than restrictions imposed by the big brewers.”

“In fact, over half of the venues contacted by the ACCC indicated that customer preference was the key factor in determining the brands, types of beer and number of craft ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Supreme Court demands Mallya's presence to proceed in contempt case
The Supreme Court on July 14 considered the Centre's submission that proceedings to extradite embattled businessman Vijay Mallya are going on in London and said the contempt case against him would move further only when he is produced before it, the Press Trust of India reported.

A bench comprising Justices A K Goel and U U Lalit took note of the fresh status report, referred by Attorney General K K Venugopal that efforts to bring Mallya back were on.

The apex court, which was to pronounce quantum of the sentence on July 14 against Mallya, who has already been convicted for its contempt, said proceedings can't move further unless the businessman is produced before it.

Earlier, Mallya had failed to make a personal appearance before the top court despite being directed to do so.

The apex court had on May 9 held Mallya, who is presently in the United Kingdom, guilty of contempt on a plea by the consortium of lender banks, led by the State Bank of India, for his failure to furnish details of all his Indian as well as offshore assets.

It had directed Mallya to appear before it on July 14 to argue on the quantum of punishment.

The offence of contempt ...More info on site
