Vietnam: Analysts believe now is the right time for government to sell its stake in Sabeco
|
Analysts believe that now is the right time for the state to divest Sabeco shares because the shares are going for a good price, VietNamNet Bridge reported on August 10.
Sabeco will step up selling the State capital in this firm in 2017 as requested by the Government.
A representative of Sabeco, the largest brewer in Vietnam, said Sabeco has chosen a consultancy firm for the process.
Nguyen Hoang Hai, deputy chair of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI), commented that the state’s divestment would only partially depend on the consultant, as it is the sales method that will determine the success of the transaction.
Sabeco should implement equitization quickly to grab the opportunity to sell at high prices, he said. If the State remains undecided, it will lose billions of dollars.
"It is necessary to organize auctions and sell its stake soon,” Hai added.
“If the State wants to sell its stake at high prices, it should sell all the 90 percent stake once. The sale must be done in a transparent and open way which will attract the highest possible number of buyers,” he said.
Hai stressed the principle of transparency in selling the state’s stake, i.e. shares will be sold to those who

India: United Breweries introducing five imported beer brands from parent Heineken in India
|
United Breweries Ltd, the maker of Kingfisher beer, is in the process of introducing five imported beer brands from its Dutch parent Heineken NV in India, challenging Anheuser-Busch InBev—currently the market leader for imported beers, Livemint reported on August 10.
UB has introduced these brands—Sol, Edelweiss, Affligem, Dos Equis and Desperados—in select markets a month ago and is now expanding to other markets, marketing head Samar Singh Sheikhawat said.
“We are very hopeful that with these five brands, we will have a solution for a consumer set who is looking for these offerings and did not find an answer in the UB portfolio. There is a growing market for this, a profitable market,” Sheikhawat.
UB—India’s largest beer maker—aims to capture a fourth of India’s imported beer market with these five brands, Sheikhawat said. Before these brands were launched, UB had no presence in that segment.
The new brands are expected to help UB expand its portfolio, enter a fast-growing segment, and partially offset the slowdown in the wider beer market. Of the five beers, Sol will take on Corona from Anheuser-Busch InBev.
Apart from Corona, which has a market share of around 49% in imported beers, Anheuser-Busch InBev also sells Hoegaarden (about 27%) and Stella

India: Vijay Mallya no longer director of United Breweries Ltd
|
United Breweries Ltd (UBL) said on August 10 its Chairman Vijay Mallya has ceased to be director of the company following market regulator Sebi's order against him, Press Trust of India reported.
On January 25 this year Sebi had restrained Mallya from holding position as director or key managerial personnel of any listed company which has not been vacated till date, UBL said in a regulatory filing.
"The board at its meeting held today (August 10) has authorised filing of requisite forms/intimations with the Registrar of Companies and other authorities notifying Vijay Mallya's cessation from holding position of director in the company," it said.
In January, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had restrained Mallya and six others from the securities market and also from "buying, selling or otherwise dealing in securities in any manner whatsoever, either directly or indirectly" till further directions.
The market regulator's order was issued close on the heels of CBI naming Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines and eight others in a chargesheet related to loan default case.
Mallya, whose now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines owes more than Rs 9,000 crore (including interest) to various banks, had fled India on March 2, 2016.
The CBI has two cases against him - one related to

Namibia: Namibia Breweries Limited is taking its barley project to the next level
|
Namibia Breweries Limited is taking its barley project to the next level with the very ambitious target to grow 60,000 tonnes of barley annually within the next ten years. Going by the yields of the first two seasons, some 12,000 hectares under irrigation will be required, Namibia Economist reported on August 9.
Talking about the issues of investment and innovation, the Ohlthaver & List Group Director for Corporate Affairs, Gideon Shilongo, told a local television channel the proven demand for unmalted barley by Namibia Breweries, a subsidiary of the group, is 40,000 tonnes. However, the breweries can absorb another 20,000 tonnes of unmalted barley for its new product, King Lager.
Bringing innovation into the equation, Shilongo said the barley pilot project which yielded 1,200 tonnes from 400 hectares, provided them with a raw material, too little to go into their mainstream brewing operations, but still too valuable to be used as animal fodder. This lead to the idea of brewing small quantities of unmalted beer using the local harvest. This beer is now marketed as King Lager.
If Namibia Breweries Limited can find the land to supply in their own barley requirements, it will create another 2500 jobs in agriculture. “In 2016 alone,
