Vietnam: Sabeco share value up after dividend announcement
|
Most recently, Sabeco published the information that it will pay dividend at 35 per cent ratio, including 15 per cent in October and 20 per cent in December this year. At this ratio, each share is valuated at VND3,500, the VietNamNet Bridge reported on August 28.
With 641.3 million shares in circulation, Sabeco will have to pay approximately VND2.22 trillion ($98.2 million) in dividends, including VND1.2 trillion ($53.09 million) for ThaiBev who owns 53.59 per cent of Sabeco’s charter capital and VND805 billion ($35.6 million) for the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) that holds 36 per cent.
After Sabeco published the above information, as of the 3PM transaction session on August 27, its share value increased to VND220,000 apiece, up VND7,000 compared to three days ago.
Despite the increased share valuation, in comparison with the VND320,000 ($14.09) share price that ThaiBev paid for Sabeco’s shares, ThaiBev is currently experiencing losses of VND11.8 trillion ($522.1 million) from the deal.
In late July, Neo Gim Siong Bennett, former deputy general director was appointed as general director and the second legal representative of Sabeco, replacing Nguyen Thanh Nam, who was appointed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) one year ago.

India: United Breweries to launch new non-alcoholic beer very soon

There is a good news for teetotallers. India’s largest beer company United Breweries Limited (UBL) is set to launch a non-alcoholic beer in India very soon, the Deccan Herald reported on August 26.
The Bengaluru-based company is looking at the larger beverage consumption occasions to further drive the growth of its business. UBL is currently working on tapping the opportunity with a portfolio of non-alcoholic beers that deliver on refreshment and taste.
“For most adults the beverage choices for non-alcoholic occasions are limited. Our new offerings will also enable us to enter a much larger retail universe that is today closed on to us,” the company said in its annual report to shareholders.
The company plans to manufacture its non-alcoholic beer at its brewery in Bihar and is scheduled to commence test marketing during the third quarter of the current financial year, the company said.
The main different between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer is the amount of alcohol they contain. Alcoholic beers have some alcohol in them, while non-alcoholic beers contain a very little alcohol. There are four types of beers – alcohol-free, de-alcoholised, low-alcohol and alcoholic beer. Vietnam: Vietnamese men drink the most in Asia - report
|
Vietnamese men drink five standard alcoholic drinks on average a day, the highest volume in Asia, according to the Lancet, one of the world's prestigious medical journals, local media reported on August 28.
One standard alcoholic drink, 10 grams of alcohol, is equivalent to a small glass of beer or wine, or a shot of spirit.
According to the Lancet's study, Vietnamese women drink less than one standard alcoholic drink a day, standing in the group of lightest drinkers in the world, online newspaper Zing reported.
According to incomplete statistics of relevant Vietnamese agencies, 10 percent of Vietnam's population abuse alcoholic drinks.
People in Vietnam drank over 4 billion litres in 2017, up 6 percent against 2016, said the Vietnam Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Association.
The country annually spends some 3.4 billion U.S. dollars on beer consumption, with nearly 90 percent of the money going to foreign brewers.

Australia: AB InBev’s Carlton & United Breweries to launch its first non-alcoholic beer
|
AB InBev-owned Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) aims to shake up the Australian beer market with the launch of the first non-alcoholic beer in its 180-year history, FoodBev.com reported on August 28.
Called Carlton Zero, the beverage “is for beer lovers who want more opportunities to enjoy beer responsibly”.
Its release marks a long-term shift in Australia’s drinking habits: low- and mid-strength beers now represent 20% of CUB sales as consumers increasingly moderate their alcohol intake.
Carlton Zero aims to expand the number of occasions people can enjoy beer while encouraging moderate drinking.
While Australian sales of non-alcoholic beers have grown 57% over the last five years, the sales volumes of non-alcoholic beers are modest in the country compared to the US, Canada and Europe.
CUB said that launch of Carlton Zero – which is said to be slightly hoppy with a fruity aroma – is expected to “significantly increase” non-alcoholic beer sales in Australia.
CUB business unit president Peter Filipovic said: “We’ve listened to customers who have told us they want more opportunities to drink responsibly but still want a great-tasting beer. So we are rewriting the rules to give people a non-alcoholic beer that actually tastes like beer.

Malaysia: Heineken to increase prices as from September 17
|
The new prices of Heineken Malaysia Bhd’s products following the implementation of the sales and service tax (SST) are expected to be lower than the prices during the goods and services tax (GST) regime in 2015, The Star Online reported on August 29.
The price increase for Heineken’s products is due to take effect beginning Sept 17.
While Heineken is not able to absorb the SST, the businesses that retail its products have the option to absorb the 6% service charge.
Speaking at the group’s first-half financial year results briefing on August 28, Heineken Malaysia finance director Szilard Voros expects consumer sentiment to be positive ahead. “We do not foresee that big of an impact from the SST, but this will open up the price gap of contraband beers.
“This is something we need to be careful about. We will need to see if consumer sentiment will change after the implementation of the SST or Budget 2019.
"However, we still believe it will be high, as compared to the previous periods,” said Voros.
Heineken Malaysia has declared an interim dividend of 40 sen per share for FY18, payable on Oct 25 this year.

Germany: Grain production estimated at 35.6 mln tonnes
|
The German Farmers Association DBV has revised its estimation of 2018 German grain production to 35.6 mln tonnes, 0.4 mln tonnes below the organisation’s last estimate on 1 August.
The DBV’s final harvest report places German grain production 26% below the five year average and the lowest level since 1993. This is in line with estimates from other organisations, with the association of German farm cooperatives (DRV) estimating grain production to fall to 36.3 mln tonnes, as at 8 August. In addition, the first estimate of the 2018 German grain crop (excluding maize) from the German Federal Statistical office has placed production as the lowest since 1994.
Winter wheat production is expected to fall to 18.6 mln tonnes, down 23% from 2017 and 6.7 mln tonnes below the five year average (2013-2017). The DBV’s estimate currently sits 0.6 mln tonnes below both the Federal Statistical office’s first estimate and DRV’s estimate and the final number for winter wheat production remains to be seen.
