Brewery news USA, VT & NY: Zero Gravity Craft Brewery to purchase Magic Hat brewing facility
Zero Gravity Craft Brewery in Burlington announced on June 16 that it has recently reached an agreement to purchase brewing equipment and expand into the previous Magic Hat Brewing facility in South Burlington, Vermont Biz reported.

As Magic Hat moves to Rochester, NY, Zero Gravity will utilize this space to expand their production and packaging capacity. This expansion will allow them to fulfil the increase in demand for their core products, such as Conehead and Green State Lager.

Magic Hat acknowledged it was selling and moving out in a Tweet issued on June 16.

Zero Gravity said in a statement that it will continue to produce the smaller specialty and seasonal beer that drive the creativity and excitement the brand is known for.

Zero Gravity spokesperson Emma Shea told VBM: "We will be doing Research and Development for the first phase, over the next couple of weeks and then officially moving in over the next few months."

As a Vermont-based brewery, Zero Gravity is excited to be taking over a facility where so much of Burlington’s craft beer history was created. As out production needs continue to grow, this facility right down the road from out Pine Street (Burlington) brewery will allow us to increase ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WY: Mountain Hops Brewhouse plans to launch in Casper by early July
It all started with a home brewing kit and now within a couple weeks, Eric Magnuson will open his own brewery, Wyoming News Now reported on June 16.

"I just got more and more involved with it, more and more interested and learned everything I could. It was always a dream to open my own brewery," said Magnuson.

In 2019 a brewery in Buffalo closed. Magnuson reached out to see if the equipment was for sale, which it was. His family had also recently bought the building that would become Mountain Hops Brewhouse and suggested Magnuson put his brewery there.

"I've been working for my father at his car lot for the last nine years and I think he just wanted me to follow my dream and they're very supportive," said Magnuson.

Magnuson said he won't have anyone else's beer on his taps and what sets him apart from other breweries, is he likes to experiment.

"I really enjoy experimenting with ingredients, things that you don't see very often. I do an IPA that I make candied oranges for and I put candied oranges in the beer. I just like things that are just a little bit different, not your run of the mill type ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NJ: Old Hights Brewing Company opened its online store for business in Hightstown
Hightstown became the latest small New Jersey town to welcome a craft brewery when Old Hights Brewing Company opened its online store for business on June 16, Mercer Space reported.

In reality, Old Hights has been around for more than two years — that’s how long co-brewers Alex Costantino and Brian Woodward and their partners, Charles “Lee” Stults and David Puskar, have been working on their passion project.

Ordinarily, opening a brewery means opening up a taproom at the brewery where thirsty people can stop in and order draft ales to drink in house or get packaged ones to go. As the popularity of craft beer has skyrocketed In recent years, breweries have been able to make a significant portion of their revenue from tasting room sales.

And Old Hights Brewing Company, situated in a brand new building on West Ward Avenue, has a custom-designed, reclaimed-wood, indoor-outdoor tasting area all set to go. Alas, the coronavirus pandemic has changed everything.

When Gov. Phil Murphy ordered all restaurant dining rooms and brewery tasting rooms closed in March because of Covid-19, the brewery partners had little choice but to completely upend their business plan if they were going to open this spring.

Originally, they had not planned ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MI: Two Bandits Brewing Company to open a brewpub in Coldwater
The City of Coldwater announced on June 15 that Two Bandits Brewing Company of Hicksville, Ohio will be opening a brewpub in the historic Kerr Building on the corner of West Chicago and South Hanchett Streets.

The business owners are Mark Young and Bob Garza. They plan to offer a lineup of beers and food.

Young said the Kerr building will be perfect not only for how it will be laid out but its historical significance.

He also noted its location near the Tibbits Opera House and the improvements going on in downtown Coldwater.

According to a press release from the city and the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance, the brewpub owners not only intend to bring their old-world feel to Coldwater, complete with the Navy and motorcycle memorabilia they are known for, but to distribute their beer as well.

It will be the second brewpub for Young and Garza.

They decided on the Kerr Building after taking a tour of several downtown buildings and the community.

Brewery news USA, MN: Minnewaska House and Brewing Co + Grill now open in Longbeach
In a normal year Darren and Angie Anderson would have already unveiled the craft brewery now located inside Minnewaska House in Longbeach. At least that was the plan, the Pope County Tribune reported on June 15.

Instead, the coronavirus stopped bars and restaurants from being open to dine-in customers in mid-March, and Minnewaska House and Brewing Co. + Grill had to resort to serving customers with curb-side service. That wasn’t all bad. Darren and Angie Anderson, owners of Minnewaska House and Brewing Co. since 2004, saw a lot of support with customers purchasing take out meals regularly each week and buying lots of gift cards. “The support was just great and we certainly want to thank everyone for that,” Angie said last week as she and Darren were preparing for customers to gather at the popular local restaurant.

But now, since restaurants can serve inside dining customers (with limitations), Minnewaka House with its new brewery, is open and serving patrons both inside and outside its facility along Highway 28/29 between Glenwood and Starbuck.

With the opening, Angie and Darren said they are eager to continue offering customers a “great dining experience, from quality food prepared by being grilled on ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, ON: Grand River Brewing leaving Cambridge location
Grand River Brewing is leaving Cambridge, after making a historic building its home for several years, KitchenerToday.com reported on June 13.

The building at 295 Ainslie St. S. once hosted the Galt Knife Company for almost 100 years, before becoming the home of Grand River Brewing.

In a release, the company said they faced unexpected obstacles from the start of their operations, then had to re-evaulute due to the impact of COVID-19.

"We know you will all miss dropping by the historical location in Cambridge to visit the tap room and taste some of the best craft beers Ontario has to offer, but we hope to be back in Cambridge in a new form down the road," said Rossana Magnotta, CEO of the Magnotta Winery Corporation.

The company is not planning to disappear entirely as they will be operating out of their Magnotta Vaughan facility, alongside Magnotta Brewery.

"Together we will continue to grow our own distinctive ingredients on acres of hop fields in Vineland, Ontario and pride ourselves on providing unique flavours using quality ingredients to make natural, wholesome and honest beer, just the way it should be," said Magnotta.

Their beers will still be available at select LCBO stores, grocery stores and agency stores.

Brewery news USA, CT: Phantom Brewing newest craft brewery that opened in Hartford during lockdown
While the pandemic has hit businesses across the world hard, one Hartford brewery is persevering. Phantom Brewing is the newest craft-beer brewery and opened during the lockdown, The Hartford Business Journal reported.

Phantom started as a homebrew and restaurant supply business, then opened the brewery side of the business in April.

The owners said that once the pandemic hit and business slowed, they began planning the opening of the brewery in the 3,000-square-foot industrial space, according to The Hartford Business Journal.

The Murphy Road brewery started with curbside-only sales. The taproom remains closed, but they recently opened an outdoor space in accordance with state guidelines.

Phantom Brewery also has a range of food trucks bringing barbecue and wings.

Brewery news USA, CT: NewSylum Brewing Company already open in Newtown
The summer-like humidity June 6 did nothing to wilt the excitement as curious, thirsty customers like Larry and Suzanne Schneider sat outside NewSylum Brewing Company washing down one of the microbrewery’s huge Bavarian pretzel with a couple of cold ones, The Newtown Bee reported.

After what seemed like an eternity during which a dusty and somewhat creepy abandoned state hospital building was transformed into a shiny new brewpub, the first commercial business at Fairfield Hills held its soft opening on June 6 and 7. Owners David Kingsley, Mark Tambascio, and Mark Lennon were joined by head brewer John Watson to celebrate their considerable accomplishment.

As busy staffers poured beverages and hustled pretzels and fresh pizzas from NewSylum’s own wood-fired oven to waiting patrons seated under pop-up canopies on the adjacent lawn, those looking to stockpile and share the hoppy offerings with their own friends and families drove up and loaded packages of cans and cases into waiting vehicles.

Taking a moment to chat with The Newtown Bee, Tambascio said he and his staff were quickly getting into the groove of serving customers outside — current safety precautions, for now, keep clientele from gathering inside under the cavernous vaulted ceilings — and this, after ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WA: Great Notion Brewing opening second Seattle location
Great Notion Brewing, Portland’s purveyors of hazy and juicy IPA’s, confection-inspired stouts, and fruit packed sours, are opening a second Seattle location in the Georgetown neighborhood. Great Notion Georgetown will open ahead of the previously announced Seattle location coming to Ballard later this year, newschoolbeer.com reported on June 15.

“Our Ballard spot seemed like it was going to be getting delayed again and again so we decided to jump on this Georgetown location,” says Great Notion’s co-owner Paul Reiter. The Georgetown neighborhood is bounded by rail lines and near the Seattle airport, it’s been known to be a mostly industrial district but has been growing in recent years with an impressive list of breweries and restaurants.

“It’s a super bad ass small neighborhood, a little bit far from Ballard, and one of the first neighborhoods you hit getting into Seattle from Portland,” says Reiter on why they chose Georgetown.

Great Notion Georgetown will be right next to Lowercase Brewing in the space currently occupied by Mercer Estate Winery’s tasting room at 6235 Airport Way South, Suite 102. The space will be Great Notion’s first taproom without a kitchen, food can be brought in from their neighbors at Lowercase Brewing and a collaboration beer ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, HI: Kona Brewing’s new brewery could open as soon as July
From the outside looking in, the skeletal look of Kona Brewing Co.’s new location on Pawai Place in Kailua-Kona makes it easy to assume it’s far from completion.

From the inside, however, the brewery is closing in on beginning production at their new home: potentially as soon as July, according to Kona Brewing’s General Manager Billy Smith, the West Hawaii Today reported on June 15.

“We should be starting to do some test brews in late July, early August,” said Smith. “Hopefully in August, we’ll actually be packaging. September, we’ll be fully online.”

Originally slated for an opening in early 2019, Kona Brewing’s construction — one with a thorough focus on sustainability — has been hit by a handful of delays along the way. Kona’s remote location presented difficulties procuring the right equipment and materials for the brewery’s sustainability projects.

“It’s our kuleana and responsibility at Kona Brewing Co. to be sustainable and make sure that we don’t forget to take into consideration our impact here on the islands,” added Smith. “These are quite new processes in the brewing industry overall, but they’re fairly new to Hawaii as well.”

One of Kona Brewing’s biggest focuses with regards to sustainability in their new location is a ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Ursa Minor Brewing launches in Ootsa Lake, BC
A new brewery focused on brewing with distinctive locally grown and foraged ingredients is now open in Ootsa Lake, a small community in the North-Central Interior of British Columbia, the Canadian Beer News reported on June 12.

Ursa Minor Brewing opened last weekend with five initial beers, including Pig’s Eye Rye (6% abv), Pondosy Pale Ale (5.2% abv), Ootsa Pogo Double IPA (8% abv), Dark Sky Ale (4.8% abv), and Lost Viking Juniper Wheat Ale (5% abv). Beers are available in flights at the tasting bar, and cans in the retail store and online shop.

Ursa Minor Brewing is located at 452459 Ootsa Lake Road, and is currently open on Friday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.

Brewery news USA, MN: Luce Line Brewing Company hopes to open in Plymouth by fall
The city of Plymouth currently does not have a public brewery or taproom. Soon it will get one, ccxmedia.org reported on June 12.

A pair of business partners plan to open Luce Line Brewing Company. As its name suggests, the brewery and taproom would be located off the Luce Line Regional Trail in the southeast part of the city. The precise location is in an industrial area west of Highway 55 and east of Xenium Lane, north of the bike trail.

The proposal by Tim Naumann, a Plymouth resident, and business partner Kate Coward includes a bicycle shop business in addition to the brewery and taproom. They expect to lease part of their space to Trailhead Cycling, a bicycle shop currently located in Champlin.

“We’ve worked very hard to put this brewery together,” said Naumann. “We’re taking great risk to do it.”

Coward said she hopes to open the business by fall, a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to linger.

The Plymouth City Council approved a zoning amendment change and a conditional use permit on Tuesday to allow a brewery and taproom in this industrial area. A majority of council members also agreed to remove no parking signs on the north side of ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NY: Peconic County Brewing aiming at September opening in Riverhead
Peconic County Brewing is aiming to open in Riverhead this September, the Greater Long Island reported on June 11.

Jeff Schaeffer, the creator of Long Island Beer Authority blog and podcast, always had a love for great beer “brewing” inside him, and opening his own brewery was a lifelong dream of his.

Well, Schaeffer is making that dream into a reality at the beginning of September.

Schaeffer said the Peconic County Brewing is going to be an 8,500-square-foot-space on the east end of Main Street in Riverhead overlooking the Peconic County River.

The brewery space also has a 2,000-square-foot deck outside, a stage for local music, space for cornhole, a full kitchen, and of course, a wide selection of beer.

Schaeffer, who is from Patchogue, said he decided on Riverhead as the location for his new brewery because of the town’s “strong beer community.”

Riverhead is known for being the capital of craft beers on Long Island amongst beer fanatics.

“I think Riverhead has become a destination for really good craft beer,” Schaeffer said. “This is a hub and an up and coming area that I really want to watch and be a part of the growth of.”

Schaeffer said he sees ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Competition heating up in non-alcoholic beer market
With the hot summer season close at hand, competition is heating up in South Korea’s non-alcoholic beer market, the Korea Bizwire reported on June 19.

China’s Tsingtao Brewery Co. recently threw its hat into the ring to make a play in a market that has been led by HiteJinro Co. and Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co.

Oriental Brewery Co., the No. 1 brand in South Korea’s beer market, also plans to steer into this market by the end of this year.

According to industry sources on June 18, HiteJinro introduced non-alcoholic beer first in South Korea.

The company released Hite Zero 0.00 in Nov. 2012 and renovated the taste and package design in March 2016.

Hite Zero features a 0.00 percent alcohol content and only 60 kilocalories (kcal) per 355 milliliter can. Since Hite Zero 0.00 was first released, about 54 million cans have been sold.

Sales of Hite Zero 0.00 in the April-May period marked a robust year to year growth of 29 percent. During this period, the monthly average sales volume jumped by 34 percent compared to the figures recorded in the first quarter of this year.
