The anticipated wait is over – Curio Brewing Company, located at 216 Noah Drive in Franklin, has opened its doors for business, the Williamson Source reported on July 10.

From Turtle Anachary, Mantra Ales, and most recently Mill Creek, 216 Noah Drive has seen its sharing of brewing companies. Curio Brewing Company offers day to night drink offerings from cold brew to beer.

Curio Brewing Company, a name inspired by the curiosity of brewing coffee and beer for the community to love, will offer a wide variety of cold brews and they are developing a coffee soda, a new coffee trend. Partners, David Morris and Alex Wigton wanted to have a place where you can gather from morning to evening. Morris was previously a roaster at Honest Coffee Roaster and has continued with his coffee journey and will be roasting coffee for the new shop.

Wigton says they will be open with limited hours serving coffee right now. “The goal is by Wednesday we will have beer (other local) to start opening up the taproom.” Cold Brew should also be ready by next week, Wigton says.

When customers come to visit Curio Brewing Company, they will find a remodeled taproom with bright colors focusing ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MO: Prehistoric Brewing Co already open in Springfield
Craft breweries in Springfield hit double digits with the June 5 opening of Prehistoric Brewing Co. LLC, the Springfield Business Journal reported on July 7.

The 10th local brewery is in the Plaza Shopping Center at 1816 S. Glenstone Ave.

Charley Norton, who co-owns the venture with Keith Davis, said they invested around $500,000 to startup, and the space includes a viewing area to observe the brewing process.

Construction and COVID-19-related restrictions delayed opening the 3,500-square-foot brewery, Norton said. Occupancy limits are currently being observed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Norton said they plan to have an outdoor seating area complete within a few months.

The owners are on a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with KPAC Registered LLLP.

Brewery news USA, NY: Prison City Brewing developing its second brewery in Auburn
Prison City Brewing is developing its second brewery in Auburn, New York, US. The new brewery location will support the growth of the company, while expanding production, the Drinks Insight Network reported on July 8.

The ground-breaking ceremony of the new location was held in October 2019 and brewing operations are expected to start in late July 2020. Estimated to involve an investment of $4.25 mln, the project will create 25 jobs.

Prison City Brewing was assisted by Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA) in submitting Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) loan applications through the City of Auburn and Cayuga County. CEDA is also supported by the New York State Consolidated Funding Application and the identification of the new brewery location. The project received ESD / AIDA tax benefits worth $900,000.

The brewery site is located at 251 North Street in Auburn, Cayuga County. Spread across an area of 14,000ft², the brewery will include a production facility, a tasting room and a restaurant.

The new facility will expand Prison City Brewing’s production from 900 barrels to 10,000 barrels a year.

Brewery news USA, FL: Mad Robot Brewing Company to close its doors permanently
Mad Robot Brewing Company will be closing its doors permanently during the COVID pandemic, The Boca Raton Tribune reported on July 9.

The Robot brewery located on 2621 N Federal Hwy in Boca Raton is popularly known as a hub for burlesque shows, Drag Queen bingo, and even rare Belgian beer tastings.

They also featured small bites and over 30 varieties of teas, wines as well as over 40 hookah flavors for customers.

All that came to an end when they announced on July 6 on their Facebook page that they were shutting down.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that we are closing our doors for good. On behalf of the Robot family, I want to thank every person who ever bought a beer from us for their support.”

The brewery was started in 2018, by owners and founders Allen Steen and Ryan Sentz who saw the potential of the quirky establishment to become a hangout spot for comedians and musicians.

Every Tuesday is when they held “Open Jam Night” for musicians and every Wednesday they had an “All Arts Open Mic Night”, which for Boca Helping Hands for families in need.

Brewery news USA, CA: Oackland’s Independent Brewing Company announces permanent closure
Before Independent Brewing Company was founded on July 4, 2013, there were no breweries in Jack London Square. Today, the Oakland waterfront neighborhood is home to a growing number of small craft breweries including Federation Brewing and Original Pattern Brewing — but now, the oldest among them has announced it will not be able to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, SFGate reported on July 7.

"Today, on the seventh anniversary of our founding, with much mixed emotion, we are announcing the permanent closure of Independent Brewing Company at 444 Harrison Street," the brewery announced on its Facebook page on July 4. "The challenges of Covid-19 and an inability to find common ground on continuing our lease into the future have made it impractical to continue operations."

Owner Steve McDaniel cited a number of reasons for the brewery's closure, mostly relating to the lack of revenue over the past three months: Independent Brewing does not sell food, so it has not been able to reopen for outdoor dining, and they also do not have packaging capabilities, so they haven't been able to sell bottles or cans during the shutdown, either. They have also been unable to obtain any PPP loans or support from the ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Miadiamante Foods & Beverages acquires majority stake in craft brewer Independence Brewing Company
Miadiamante Foods & Beverages, a Nashik-based company, has picked up a majority stake in microbrewery company, Independence Brewing Company (IBC), one of the largest and oldest microbreweries in India. This is among a few transactions in the F&B space in India since the lockdown was announced, the Financial Express reported on July 10.

Miadiamante, promoted by Krishen Lal Khanna and Anirudh Khanna, acquired a majority stake in IBC from Indus Brew LLC, a US-based entity. Co-founded by Shailendra Bist, majority of the stake in IBC was previously owned by Indus Brew LLC, Greg Koch (co-founder, Stone Brewing Company) and Avanish Vellanki (co-founder & CEO, Rain Therapeutics).

IBC is widely present across Mumbai and Pune through its outlets and beer distribution business and its revenues were at around $2 million in FY20.

While Miadiamante has purchased a majority stake, founder Bist will continue to own a minority stake and invest efforts in growing the business further. What was previously a US-based LLC has now been converted into an Indian family-owned company, which will run the business.

Mihir Mehta, SVP, Ashika Capital, which facilitated the deal, said the ongoing pandemic had affected the economy drastically with the F&B sector being one of the worst-affected. “Firms should ...More info on site

Brewery news South Africa: Craft brewers plead for support from state
Only 10% of South African craft brewers believe they will be able to continue trading in the near future if the current restrictions on the trade of alcohol and the prohibition of on consumption sales continue. Seven breweries closed down in June, retrenching all their staff, Food For Mzansi reported on July 9.

Responses received from more than 100 breweries in a recent survey conducted by the Craft Brewers Association of South Africa (CBASA), shows that the industry suffered major blows resulting from covid-19 and the resulting economic lockdown.

The future of local craft beer is extremely volatile following a nine-week-long ban on the sale of alcohol and strict trading regulations. The industry has recorded alarming losses and has called on government to help give them a fighting chance of survival.

According to the survey seven breweries were forced to shut their doors permanently in June. More than half of the respondents indicated that their sales have decreased by between 60-100% since the start of lockdown, while 24% indicated that their sales dropped by between 90-100%. A bulk (87%) of the brewers says they are currently unable to meet monthly expenses.

Early in May, Food For Mzansi also reported on the forced closure of ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: More and more Koreans cracking open a non-alcoholic beer this summer
As the summer heats up, more and more Koreans are cracking open a cold one — a cold non-alcoholic beer that is, with sales of the alcohol-free drinks shooting up so fast the growth rate is expected to overtake regular beer in the next few years, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported on July 9. Recognizing the trend, beer manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, including Oriental Brewery that recently announced plans to release a non-alcoholic version of Cass, Cass Zero. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation last month, the global non-alcoholic beer market is projected to post annual growth averaging 23.1 percent every year from 2019 to 2024. The statistics is nearly seven times larger than the estimated 3.2 percent growth for the regular beer market. Last year, the market value of non-alcoholic beer in Korea was estimated at about 10 billion won ($8.3 million), which only accounts for around 0.25 percent of the total beer market, at 4 trillion won. The non-alcoholic beer market has been growing rapidly this year. Sales of alcohol-free beer in the first half of the year increased 22.7 percent, not significantly different from the regular market. According to the report released ...More info on site
