Brewery news USA, NY: 1812 Brewing Company should be ready to launch in Watertown by next spring
Sackets Harbor Brewing Company is setting up shop in Watertown, WWNY reported on October 16.

The old Alteri’s Bakery building on Waterman Drive will soon be renovated to hold the brewery’s production. Plus, an expansion will add more space for a tasting room.

The old bakery sign will come down and be replaced with a new one. That sign will read “1812 Brewing Company.”

The production operations will go into the 13,000 square foot space, giving brewing company owner Tom Scozzafava a little piece of mind.

“First of all, I’m not paying a third party who banks into that profit, so it’s certainly going to reduce the cost,” said Scozzafava.

The facility will become the bottling center for the 1812 brews. Bottling is something Scozzafava was outsourcing, but that company filed for bankruptcy. So he needed to find a solution.

The new location will also include a 960-square foot addition to the building and a new tasting room will be created - adding 10 to 12 jobs to the company by this time next year.

“And to bring that to Watertown is certainly a benefit to the city and so, you know, there is nothing but positives that come out of it,” said Don Rutherford, Watertown Local ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, GA: Elsewhere Brewing to open its doors in Atlanta on October 24
Elsewhere Brewing opens to the public on Saturday, October 24, at the Beacon complex in Grant Park, Eater Atlanta reported on October 19.

Construction and permitting delays and equipment and supply shortages caused by the pandemic delayed the opening of the brewery by nearly three months. For now, patrons of Elsewhere Brewing are required to wear masks when not seated and capacity will be limited inside the taproom.

Owners Sam and Sara Kazmer took inspiration from the Belgian cafes, Bavarian beer gardens, and English pubs they visited while traveling through Europe to create a drinking hall with a cafe vibe for Elsewhere. The brewery seats approximately 80 people inside, with up to 50 people outside on the dog-friendly patio. A serving window located on the patio opens to the bar, eliminating the need for people to enter the building to order beer and food.

Elsewhere opens with 11 beers on tap, ranging from European classics, like a pilsner, Bavarian hefeweizen, and dark Czech lager, along with West Coast ales, IPAs, and special release beers, including a peach saison, grape gose, and red velvet cake stout.

Executive chef Thomas Stewart worked with Patagonian chef Richard Oyarzun to create the food menu for Elsewhere, which ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, SC: The Grand Strand Brewing Company to open before spring 2021
The Myrtle Beach Downtown Development Office provided an update on a highly-anticipated brewery in the downtown area, WMBF reported on October 19.

The Grand Strand Brewing Company is part of the Arts and Innovation District in downtown Myrtle Beach.

It will occupy the first floor at 819 North Kings Highway. The Maker Exchange, a creative space for community events and art classes, will take over the second floor.

The Downtown Development Office toured construction on October 19 at the Grand Strand Brewing Company. It posted pictures showing where the brewery’s tanks and fermenters will be located, along with where a side bar and center bar will be placed.

The Downtown Development Office said the brewery promised that it will be open before spring 2021.

Construction on the Arts and Innovation District kicked off in September. It’s the first step in a long process to revitalize Myrtle Beach’s downtown area.

Brewery news USA, FL: St. Michael's Brewing Company becomes Navarre’s third microbrewery
Navarre welcomed its third microbrewery in October as the craft beer brewery scene in Northwest Florida continues to thrive, the Pensacola News Journal reported on October 20.

What has manifested into St. Michael's Brewing Company on State Road 87 began as a hobby for veteran Michael Bares, who retired from the U.S. Air Force out of Hurlburt Field in 2010.

Bares got into home brewing soon after retiring, and serious aspirations to open his own brewery set in a handful of years later.

"To see if it would be a viable business, and viable here in Navarre, we started showing up at brew festivals in 2016," Bares said on October 19, referring to himself and his wife, Paula. "We put some feelers out to see if there was any interest and sure enough, there were a lot of people from Navarre that were going to these festivals. They seemed to be really excited, so it was some good market research for us."

Aside from being a play on his own first name, the brewery is named after St. Michael, the patron saint for law enforcement and military. Those characteristics are reflected in Bares' beer menu, as each of his beer names ...More info on site

Brewery news Mexico: Heineken to invest 180 mln dollars in its Baja California operations
Heineken Mexico brewery will invest 180 million dollars in its Baja California business, The Yukatan Times reported on October 20, citing Mario Escobedo Carignan, Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism in Baja California.

Escobedo highlighted that more companies installed in Baja California consider the area appropriate for growth, both for the security it provides to investment and for the benefits of development, which involves the generation of jobs and expansion of operations.

“Heineken Mexico has been present in Baja California for 76 years and represents employment for 2,200 Baja Californians. In addition to 100 employees who operate in a brewery, in nine distribution centres, and continuous improvement, they confirm their confidence in us and their willingness to continue supporting business development in the state,” commented Escobedo.

He also pointed out that Baja California ranks fourth in beer production in Mexico and third in job generation.

Oscar Galvez, Director General of Corporate Affairs of Heineken Mexico, said that the company’s commitment is based on the country’s sustainable development and Baja California.

Barley news Ukraine: Ukraine’s wheat and barley harvest now completed
Ukraine has harvested 47.4 million tonnes of grain from 12.3 million hectares, or 80% of the sown area, as of Oct. 19, Ukraine's economy ministry said.

It said farmers had completed wheat and barley harvest and collected 11.1 million tonnes of corn from 2.4 million hectares, or 44% of the sown area.

The ministry expects the grain crop could fall to around 68 million tonnes in 2020 from a record 75 million tonnes in 2019 due to severe drought across most parts of the country.

The ministry also said farmers had sown 6.2 million hectares of winter crops, or 76% of the forecast. The area included 4.6 million hectares of winter wheat, or 76% of the expected area, and 628,300 hectares of winter barley that is 66% of the forecasted area.

Weather forecasters have said the weather conditions in Ukraine were the worst in 10 years and only 10% to 15% of arable land was suitable for sowing winter crops for the 2021 harvest because of the severe drought.
