USA: October domestic tax paid beer shipments up 0.6%, January-October volume down 0.7%
|
The Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for October 2020 on November 24.
The October 2020 estimate is 13,250,000 barrels, an increase of 0.6% compared to October 2019 removals of 13,168,000.
The year-to-date volume is seen 0.7% lower, at 139,801,000 barrels.

USA: Pandemic could alter the entire craft beer industry
|
The craft beer industry is being crushed by the coronavirus pandemic. Already ailing from changing consumer preferences, small breweries are at a make-or-break point that could see the character of the entire industry altered, the Motley Fool reported on November 27.
As winter approaches and states impose new lockdown orders, the local brewery scene that spawned a revolution in adult beverages may be no more.
Although the COVID-19 outbreak won't bankrupt the major beer producers, even Anheuser-Busch InBev and Molson Coors are feeling the impact of lower sales. With bars and restaurants first closed, and now only allowed to operate at significantly reduced capacities, the craft-brewing industry is on the brink with thousands of breweries potentially about to go out of business.
Many craft brewers only survived the first round of lockdowns because their taprooms were able to utilize outdoor seating. Yet just as restaurants are facing a similar crisis, brewers will soon find that option closed off as winter sets in. States including New Mexico and Oregon have banned outdoor dining now, and L.A. County in California just joined them.
With curfews also being imposed because compliance with social distancing protocols may diminish as the night wears on, craft brewers are growing

Spain: Damm to distribute Grimbergen beer in Spain, Andorra and Gibraltar
|
Damm is set to distribute Grimbergen beer in Spain, Andorra and Gibraltar within an extension to the agreement signed with the Carlsberg Group in July, when it began to distribute Carlsberg beer in mainland Spain, the Euro Weekly News reported on November 26.
In a statement from Damm on Thursday, November 26, Spain’s leading beer and beverages company will also distribute Carlsberg in the Canary Islands, Andorra and Gibraltar from January 2021.
The new contract also expands the geographical scope of the initial agreement that grants Damm the distribution rights to the Carlsberg brand.
Grimbergen beers will be available through retail sales and in the hospitality industry in all these geographical areas and Damm will also be responsible for the sales and marketing of Grimbergen, including communication, consumer activations, and direct promotion at the point of sale.
Grimbergen beers are currently available in more than 50 countries around the world and the partnership with Damm will aim to increase consumer brand awareness and purchases.
The Damm portfolio will include Grimbergen Blonde, Grimbergen Double Ambrée and Grimbergen Belgian Pale Ale. All of these varieties will be available in 33cl bottles. Damm will also supply Grimbergen Double Ambrée in 20 litre kegs.
