The negotiations on its implementation are already begun and it is projected that the venture will have been registered by the end of spring 2002. 3. Malt markets and prices

In February, international business remained extremely dull. It could not be expected any other way, as maltsters sold their malt and brewers covered their needs for 2002, while sales of crop 2002 - deliveries 2003 have hardly commenced. Small quantities traded or are being negotiated to Central America, Ethiopia and Vietnam. On the other hand good quantities changed hands in intra-maltster business, as a number of export maltsters had oversold their production capacities.

Domestic EU markets became more active. German brewers are reported to have purchased about 20-25 % of their demand for 2003. French brewers except the Heineken group bought already half of their 2003 needs. Business has also started in Belgium and the Netherlands to a small extent. U.K. and Irish brewers purchase around harvest time. Prices for delivery franco breweries during the whole year 2003 were between EUR 300,- and 310,-, but dropped lower for some contracts.
