Brewery news USA, MA: Tree House Brewing officially open for business
Tree House Brewing is now officially open for business in Charlton, The Recorder reported on May 21.

The brewery has opened its new South Deerfield location, housed in the old Channing Bete Co. facility along Routes 5 and 10, for to-go can and bottle sales, known to Tree House Brewing fans as its “On the Fly” arm of the business.

“Hello Western Mass!” the brewery announced via its social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram Friday morning. “It’s no secret we have taken up shop in Western Mass. along a bucolic stretch of road on 50 acres in South Deerfield and we could not be more excited about it. We are open today for cans to-go only from 12-6 p.m. with ordering starting at 11:30 a.m.

“The long-term vision for Tree House Western Mass. is to curate a gathering space for friends, families and groups to celebrate life, the arts and each other,” the posts continued. “We will build extraordinary spaces, curate exceptional art, curate exceptional food and drink, and do whatever we have to make Tree House Western Mass. a cultural destination worthy of the region in which it resides.”

According to its website, Tree House Brewing will be open Wednesdays through Sundays ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NJ: Ross Brewing Co. under construction in Port Monmouth
A new brewery is underway in Port Monmouth, Patch.com reported on May 21.

Ross Brewing is currently "under construction as we speak and we are hoping for a late summer opening to the public," brewery owner John Ross Cocozza told Patch this week.

Ross Brewing Co. will be located right next to the Belford Seafood Co-op, a bustling seafood market in Port Monmouth, and steps from the Belford ferry terminal, which offers morning and afternoon boat service to and from New York City. The brewery hopes to take advantage of full ferry service making a comeback once the pandemic ends. However, Ross Brewing aims to become a destination site as well: Knock off early on a Friday, and it will make a nice place to drive to fish and crab right off the brewery's dock, all while enjoying one of their craft brews.

So expect it to be a spot where commercial and recreational fishermen, commuters and tourists alike will all come together over a beer and sweeping views of Raritan Bay. Once they open, tours and tastings will be part of the attractions. Ross Brewing will actually be located on a working dock, and will have a two-story tasting room with views ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, SC: Fort Mill’s newest brewery 1873 Brewing makes its debut
Fort Mill’s newest brewery has made its debut. 1873 Brewing — a nod to Fort Mill’s incorporation — opened on May 20, WSOC Charlotte reported.

Co-owners Chris LaRocque, Brad Rice and Scott Coffey — also head brewer — are behind that approximately 2,700-square-foot space. They’ve invested just under $600,000 into the venture.

The brewery is located at 415 Tom Hall St.

The longtime friends knew they wanted to start a business one day, and kicked around a number of ideas before landing on the brewery. Coffey, a longtime homebrewer, helped tip the scales with his craft brews.

“We’re good friends, but all play a key role in what will be the success of the brewery,” LaRocque says.

Brewery news USA, MA: Lamplighter Brewing Co. and DivcoWest unveil official plans for new brewery at Cambridge Crossing
Lamplighter Brewing Co. and DivcoWest announced on May 21 final plans to open a new taproom and production space in the coming months, Lamplighter CX, at Cambridge Crossing (CX), the new 43-acre neighborhood at the intersection of Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston, and directly adjacent to the new Lechmere Station, Brewbound reported.

Lamplighter CX will be a 7,000 square-foot taproom and production space in The Shed, a two-story standalone retail building located in the center of Cambridge Crossing, which currently also houses the restaurant trio of The Lexington, Geppetto, and Café Beatrice from local restaurateur Will Gilson. Designed by local architect Prellwitz Chilinski Associates (PCA), The Shed is surrounded by public open spaces including an adjacent waterway with granite blocks for seating (repurposed from the 150-year old seawall excavated at the site), a 5-acre common right outside The Shed’s doors, a picnic grove with grills, and outdoor games like bocce ball, and Baldwin Park, a hardscape park filled with greenery and plenty of places to sit back and relax.

“We’re thrilled to resume construction and pursue this opportunity after a year that has been filled with uncertainty. Wild, funky, and sour beer has always been a focus for us and utilizing our site ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CT: Cheshire Craft Brewing the first brewery to open in Cheshire
With more and more residents getting vaccinated, now would seem the perfect time for Cheshire Craft Brewing to open its doors, the Meridien Record-Journal reported on May 21.

Located at 125 Commerce Court, Cheshire Craft Brewing is the first brewery to open in town, and one of three that could open up this year. Hamden-based Counter Weight Brewing Co. has already committed to constructing a taproom at 7 Diana Court, and Malpractice Brewing Company had expressed plans to move to Cheshire, although the venture recently announced that the original location on South Main Street is no longer viable and the business is currently looking at new sites.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Cheshire Craft Brewing co-owner Jami Ferguson. “It’s not even one hundred percent ready, but we knew as long as we had the beer and all our permits in order, we wanted to open up.”

Ferguson and co-owners, Frank Barretta and Scott DeMeo, held Cheshire Craft Brewing’s grand opening on May 7.

“It was an amazing night. We really enjoyed finally having people in here to see what we’ve been working on,” Ferguson said. “We have some amazing art pieces to be installed in the coming weeks, too, that we ...More info on site

Brewery news Ukraine: State reduces excise tax for small brewers
Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada intends to reduce the rate of excise tax on beer from UAH2.78 per litre to UAH1.39 per litre for producers whose annual production volume does not exceed 200,000 hectolitres, as well as introduce the term “small beer producers,” open4business.com.ua reported on May 24.

According to an explanatory note to the bill backed by 284MPs last week, there are 204 breweries in Ukraine with an annual production volume of up to 3,000 hectolitres, which pay UAH30,000 per year for a wholesale beer trade license, and 28 breweries with a production volume of up to 200,000 hectolitres (for them the annual license cost is UAH500,000).

These companies account for 13% of the beer market in Ukraine, while the remaining 87% is divided among nine large beer producers. According to the document, the total tax burden per 1 litre of beer produced by small brewers is significantly higher than the same indicator for the beer giants.

In addition, the authors of the bill said that all small beer producers are under significant regulatory and financial pressure, since they pay other taxes along with the excise tax.

The bill will determine the entities eligible for the reduced rate by introducing the term “independent small ...More info on site

Barley news Ukraine: Farms almost completed 2021 spring grain sowing
Ukrainian farms have almost completed 2021 spring grain sowing, seeding most of the early spring grains and finishing corn sowing, agriculture ministry data showed on May 24.

Farms had sown 176,600 hectares of spring wheat, or 99.2% of the expected area, the data showed. They also sowed 1.39 million hectares of spring barley, equating to 96.2% of the planned area, and around 5.3 million hectares of corn, amounting to 92% of the expected area.

The economy ministry has said that favourable weather could help Ukraine to harvest at least 75 million tonnes of grain this year, versus 65 million tonnes in 2020.

Ukraine's new agriculture minister Roman Lyshchenko on May 24 said that the country could harvest 100 million tonnes of grains and oilseeds this year.

Analysts expect the harvest to reach up to 71 million tonnes.

The agriculture ministry said the overall grain area is likely to total 15.5 million hectares this year, including 7.6 million hectares of spring grains.

The spring sowing area is expected to include 1.388 million hectares of barley, 176,600 hectares of wheat, 5.327 million hectares of corn, 194,050 hectares of oats and 235,400 hectares of peas.

The ministry said farms had also sown 6.4 million hectares of sunflower, equating to 87.7% ...More info on site
