Brewery news USA, AR: Rendezvous Junction Brewing Co.’s new Rogers facility slated to open on July 10
Something big is brewing in Rogers, the Fayetteville Flyer reported on June 25.

That something is Rendezvous Junction Brewing Co.’s new 6,000-square-foot brewery and taproom, located at 2225 S. Bellview Road in Rogers. It will become Rendezvous Junction’s main location, with the current location converting to a sour beer-only production site the owners are calling “Side Tracked.”

The new brewing facility is slated to open to the public on July 10.

Rendezvous Junction launched in late 2017 inside what was then Foster’s Pint & Plate. Foster’s opened as a microbrewery in 2015 but decided to carve out the brewing operation to focus on food. Enter Mike Peerson and his son-in-law, Levi Taylor. They bought the five-barrel brewhouse and rebranded the beer. Without a dedicated taproom they continued to sell most of their beer at Foster’s, which has since closed and been replaced by a Mexican restaurant.

The brewery’s production has been modest, with 70 barrels of output in 2020 (the most recent year of officially reported numbers). According to Peerson, much of Rendezvous Junction’s beer has been sold at Uptown Kitchen & Taphouse in Rogers since Foster’s closed.

Peerson flirted with death last year, and by all accounts, is lucky to be alive. On June ...More info on site

Brewery news North America: AB InBev appoints new zone president, North America
Anheuser-Busch InBev SA said it has tapped Brendan Whitworth as zone president, North America, and chief executive of its Anheuser-Busch business, effective July 1, MarketWatch.com reported on June 29.

The Budweiser brewer also on Monday named Ezgi Barcenas to be its new chief sustainability officer.

The company said on June 28 that Mr. Whitworth, currently its U.S. chief sales officer, will succeed Michel Doukeris, who is transitioning to the role of global CEO of AB InBev.

"With his deep roots in the U.S., his experience partnering with our wholesaler and retail customers, and his ability to inspire the North America team, I am confident Brendan is the right leader to accelerate our momentum in the U.S. and Canada," Mr. Doukeris said.

The beer maker said the appointment of Ms. Barcenas is effective Aug. 1, and she will report directly to Mr. Doukeris. The current chief sustainability Officer, Tony Milikin, will step down at that time, the company said.

"The appointment of [Ms. Barcenas] as our fully dedicated chief sustainability officer is a recognition of the importance of sustainability and reflects our commitment to driving business outcomes and delivering value through our ESG agenda," Mr. Doukeris said.

Brewery news USA, OH: Brighten Brewing officially opens in Copley
Tom Robbins smiled widely as he looked around the new Brighten Brewing, the Akron Beacon Journal reported on June 26.

He and business partner Elliott Pickett have been working for more than a year to open the seven-barrel brewery and tasting room just north of the Copley Circle. The doors officially opened Wednesday, June 23 becoming the community's — and western Summit County's — first craft brewery since the short-lived The Beer Factory.

"We are happy to be in Copley," Robbins said. "Good beer. Good vibes. Hopefully, that's what we put out there."

The 7,200-square-foot facility at 1374 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road — which previously housed a Dollar General store — features a large L-shaped bar, flat-screen televisions, tables, distressed floor and a small outdoor patio with pub-style picnic tables.

"A lot of people try to make a distressed floor look. We didn't have to cut holes in our jeans," Robbins said with a laugh.

Brighten opened with seven beers on tap: a double hazy IPA, Belgian-style wit, hazy pale ale, saison, American light lager, Czech pilsner and dry stout. Robbins plans eventually to offer a dozen on draft, including a hard seltzer with different syrups for flavoring.

Customers can expect an Irish-style red and fruited kettle ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NC: Husband and wife team to launch BMC Brewing in Pittsboro
After more than a year fighting through pandemic “slog,” John and Carmen Rice are set to open Pittsboro’s newest microbrewery: BMC Brewing, Chapelboro.com reported on June 27.

“There’s a few things that need to be finished up, a little bit of painting and a door needs to be finished,” John Rice said. “But we’re pretty much to the point that as soon as we get our permits, we’re ready to brew. And as soon as we have beer, we’re going to be serving it.”

BMC — the latest beverage-making operation at The Plant on Lorax Lane, an area commonly known as the Chatham Beverage District — was issued its certificate of occupancy a couple of weeks ago, Rice said. He’s just waiting for ABC Board approval, which could arrive any day, to begin alcohol production.

“And then we’ll start brewing right away, start getting beer in the tanks,” Rice said. “The quickest we’ll be able to get something out is probably two weeks. Realistically, we’re looking at three weeks. And then as soon as we get a finished menu, we’ll put them in the kegs and we’ll start serving and we’ll have the doors open and people can come in.”

Between two brewing systems, ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Devil’s Bath Brewing now open on North Vancouver Island
A new brewery and taproom offering up “brews, bites & banter” is now open on North Vancouver Island, the Canadian Beer News reported on June 28.

Devil’s Bath Brewing is located in the town of Port McNeill, and has set up shop in a former gas station using equipment from the now closed Forbidden Brewing.

The brewery opened its doors on June 22nd, and has a starting beer line-up that includes Morningstar Golden Ale (4.5% abv), Old Growth Red Ale (4.1% abv), Bottomless Brown Ale (4.4% abv), Sinners & Saints Hazy Pale Ale (5.5% abv), and WhistlePunk IPA (6.8% abv), all by the glass, in tasting flights, and growler fills to take home.

Cider, wine, and various non-alcoholic beverages are also available, along with a food menu that includes tacos, salads, and artisan pizzas.

Devil’s Bath Brewing is located at 1616 McNeill Rd. in Port McNeill, and is currently open from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM daily except for Monday.

Brewery news USA, NY: Long Island Farm Brewery already open in Manorville
Long Island’s newest craft brewery, Long Island Farm Brewery, opened in June in Manorville. In addition to being a New York State-licensed farm brewery, it is located on a working farm, the 80-acre Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden, the Long Island Press reported on June 26.

Waterdrinker is owned by the Weiss family, which has been farming on Long Island for five generations. When brothers Kirk and Joseph Weiss and their longtime friend Nick Giuffre decided a few years ago to turn their homebrewing hobby into a business, they quickly zeroed in on an old potato barn located on the farm.

“We were excited to renovate a building with a lot of history,” said Kirk Weiss, “and we look forward to using ingredients from the farm in our beers.”

New York State currently requires farm breweries to use at least 60 percent of ingredients grown in the state. The partners are planning to relocate a hop farm they own in Center Moriches to the farm brewery property, where they will grow a variety of hops including Nugget, Willamette, Cascade and Centennial.

“In addition to using our own hops in our beers,” said Weiss, “in the future we plan to grow ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, VA: Michael Waltrip Brewing Company getting ready for business in Bristol
Stand on Moore Street in Bristol, Virginia and crews are hard at work getting Michael Waltrip Brewing Company ready for business, WCYB reported on June 25.

Video from News 5's Ricky Matthews shows construction workers inside and outside performing work.

One new feature that's easily noticeable is an awning at the front entrance.

Waltrip, the former NASCAR driver, announced in March he would be opening a brewery and tap room in the building that was formerly home to Studio Brew.

The current NASCAR on FOX analyst started his brewery business in Phoenix and has locations in several western states.

The Michael Waltrip Brewing Company Twitter page says the location in Bristol will open later this summer.

An exact date will be announced at a later time.

Brewery news USA, PA: Lloyd Street Brewery holds its grand opening in Ebensburg
A new brewery opened in Cambria County just in time for Thunder in the Valley events, wjactv.com reported on June 26.

Lloyd Street Brewery in Ebensburg held its grand opening last week, with music and new drinks galore.

Co-owner David Johnson envisions the brewery to take on a non-traditional, laid back type of environment after growing up in his family's bar in Philly and listening to stories from all walks of life.

He says the interior is similar to an old speakeasy and gives everyone a place to feel comfortable.

Johnson says they plan on having food vendors available in the future.

Brewery news USA, MI: Lexington Brewing Company to reopen under new ownership and new name
Lexington Brewing Company and Wine House in downtown Lexington is going to see some changes with new owners, including a name change, the Port Huron Times Herald reported.

Kristi Nichols-Shopbell and her husband, Nate, owners of 3 North Vines winery in Croswell, and Rochester area resident Ryan Mulrenin plan to reopen the brewery as 3 North Lexington at 5475 Main St.

Kristi Nichols-Shopbell said she’s excited to take over from the previous owners and “pick up the torch of what they built.”

“We’re getting it ready and that’s exciting,” she said.

On May 20, Lexington Brewing Company and Wine House announced on social media it had sold the building to new owners. Its wines can still be found at the Windjammer Bar & Grill and Michigan By The Bottle in Auburn Hills.

Nichols-Shopbell said they bought the building and equipment May 3. The couple still plan to operate 3 North Vines, their “baby” they opened in 2015 and Mulrenin will be the site manager for the downtown Lexington location.

The winery has done well the past few years and it has outgrown the Croswell space, with the need for more room for production and customers.

The downtown Lexington location meets that need with about 2,000 square feet ...More info on site

Brewery news China: Online delivery platforms help Carlsberg buck decline in wider industry
Collaboration with Chinese online delivery platforms has helped Carlsberg China reach more customers in the world's biggest beer market, helping it buck the decline seen in the wider industry caused by consumers cutting down on eating and drinking out last year, the South China Morning Post reported.

And while the worst of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has largely subsided, digitalisation will stick around as a key strategy at Carlsberg, said Lee Chee Kong, president of Carlsberg China.

"We see digitalisation as one of our strategic priorities. In the post Covid-19 era, we will increase our investment in diversifying our distribution channels, especially in e-commerce," Lee said.

China has become the biggest market for Carlsberg, a Danish multinational company that is also the world's third-largest brewer. The country consumed about 38 million kilolitres of beer in 2019 - the most globally - data from China Alcoholic Drinks Association shows, generating sales revenue of 158.1 billion yuan (US$24.4 billion). China also produced 37.7 million kilolitres that year, around a fifth of the world's total production.

The US, with 23.9 million kilolitres, and Brazil, with 12.4 million kilolitres, were the second and third-biggest consumers of beer in 2019, respectively.

Consumption per capita in 2019 stood at ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Craft beers enjoying a surge in popularity in South Korea
Craft beers are enjoying a surge in popularity as more beer drinkers in South Korea seek to broaden their choices, bucking the years-long trend of sticking to major mass-produced beers which have dominated the country, The Korea Herald reported on June 27.

According to data from convenience store chain CU, sales of craft beer are growing exponentially, up nearly 500 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year.

The upward trend appears to be continuing this year as sales have risen by 239.2 percent as of June 21, compared to the same time last year. In 2019, the company saw a 220.4 percent jump in craft beer sales while overall alcohol sales increased by only 12.3 percent in 2019 and 17.8 percent in 2020 on a year-on-year basis.

The jump in sales was buoyed by Gompyo Beer made by South Korean premium beer manufacturer 7Brau in collaboration with Daehan Flour, which lent its bear mascot to give the product a retro touch. It became an instant hit after its release last May, becoming the best-selling beer at the convenience store chain in April, leaving behind best-sellers such as Cass and Terra.

“The beer industry is rapidly changing, especially since last year’s change in the ...More info on site

Whisky news Australia: Australian whisky soars in popularity
Making whisky hadn't occurred to John Casella when he stepped in to buy renowned fortified winemaker, Morris of Rutherglen, in 2016, GoodFood reported on June 27.

"The acquisition was made to save an Australian icon," he says. "But when we walked through the place, there was this lovely old still that hadn't been used for 30 or 40 years, and barrels that dated back to the 1800s."

Copper & Grain Distilling Co, a new subsidiary of Casella Family Brands, has this month launched Morris Whisky, giving a new lease of life to the 162-year-old Morris family winery. "We have a family brewery that could create the whisky wash, and we had thousands more wine barrels in our business that we could re-configure for whisky," Casella adds. "All the elements were there."

Best known for its critter wine juggernaut Yellow Tail, Casella has made great strides into premium wine, brewing and now whisky over the past decade.

With its resources and financial backing, Copper & Grain is able to produce whisky at a scale that allows more economical pricing. "Australia is strongly self-sufficient when you look at beer and wine," Casella observes. "Then you look at whisky and we have all the ingredients, but we ...More info on site
