Brewery news USA, MT: Limberlost Brewery now open in Thompson Falls
The Limberlost Brewery has been a project in the making for nearly a decade and now it's open in Thompson Falls, vp-mi.com reported on August 4.

Two Northwest Pennsylvania natives — Zach and Kate Whipple-Kilmer — learned from a close friend how to brew beer more than a decade ago. They saved their money, bought their equipment and bided their time.

In 2015 the couple bought the building which housed Montana Coin World. It was most notably home to Westland Chevy and was also a flower shop, the location of AA meetings, and a salon.

History is a major component of Limberlost, too.

The wood used to build the bar was milled at Diehl Mill in Plains. It was originally used to build the ski lodge on Baldy Mountain.

Two old saw blades also are a nod to the rich legacy of the timber industry in the region. One blade from the Anaconda mill in Bonner, Montana, is used as the beer board while another hails from an old mill in Superior.

They bought original tongue and groove lumber from the Corona Lake Ski Club Lodge in Plains and Billy and Nicole Setter did the remodeling.

In preparation for opening Limberlost, the Whipple-Kilmers traversed Montana, trying as ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, AB: Happy Craft Brewing launches in downtown Moncton
A new brewery with a simple and positive name is now open in downtown Moncton, The Canadian Beer News reported on August 3.

Happy Craft Brewing has been founded by friends and homebrewers Gregg Corrigan and Sebastien Daigle, who have been renovating a former theatre for more than a year to set up the brewery and taproom.

Open to the public since last week, Happy currently has four of its own beers on tap – Drama Free American IPA (6.5% abv), Oh To Be A Rainbow Passionfruit Sour (4% abv), Apricot Wheat (4% abv), and Good Day Bad Day Pilsner (4% abv) – along with several guest beers and ciders. While there’s no in-house food menu, local food trucks will be parking outside on a rotating basis.

Happy Craft Brewing is located at 800 Main St. in Moncton, and is open from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM (or later) on Wednesday to Sunday.

Brewery news USA, NJ: Buttzville Brewing Company becomes Warren County’s newest craft brewery
Warren County’s newest craft brewery is now open in Washington, the Rutherford Daily Voice reported on August 4.

Buttzville Brewing Company, located on E. Washington Ave., was launched by Lehigh Valley Homebrewers Club members Erin Andersen and her husband, co-founder Dave Andersen.

The brewery specializes in German creations but offers all type of craft beer options, from pale ales and IPAs to stouts and seltzers.

The grand opening was celebrated July 31 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by town officials and the Buttzville Brewing team.

Buttzville Brewing Company is open Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m.

Brewery news USA, VA: Front Royal Brewing Company to open new location in Winchester, change name to Vibrissa Beer
Front Royal Brewing Company (FRB) has announced plans to open a new location in Winchester, Virginia in mid-2022 and to change its name to Vibrissa Beer by the end of August 2021, WHSV reported on August 4.

“With two locations and plans to expand our distribution footprint beyond Virginia into neighboring states, we need a name that is recognizable across a broad geographic area,” said Mike McCarthy, FRB’s General Manager, Head Brewer, and eight-time Great American Beer Festival (GABF) winner.

“With Mike’s brewing expertise, and the solid management team we’ve created, we can make a real impact on the beer scene, not only here in the Shenandoah Valley but nationally as well,” says Jeffery Carroll, FRB’s Marketing and Distribution Director.

FRB will be leasing space in the former Winchester Star Building at 2 North Kent Street. FRB says the space will include a large production brewhouse, taproom and restaurant, as well as an outdoor beer garden.

“We are thrilled that Vibrissa has chosen our building for their new Winchester business,” says Tom W. Byrd, Manager of North Kent Properties LLC, which owns the former Winchester Star building. “We have been very impressed with their Front Royal location and think that they will have great ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MI: Workshop Brewing Company opening second location in downtown Kingsley
Traverse City’s Workshop Brewing Company is opening a second location in downtown Kingsley, targeting an end-of-year opening in a historic building at 121 Brownson Avenue with a large outdoor beer garden. The Ticker has an exclusive first look at the project plans, which are being celebrated by Kingsley leaders who’ve long sought to bring a brewpub to the village as a downtown anchor.

Workshop Brewing Company owner Pete Kirkwood will take over the lease for the building that currently houses the Kingsley Print Shop – which is vacating the premises at the end of October – and formerly housed Kingsley Floral & Gifts, which recently moved into a larger space at 104 South Brownson Avenue. Kirkwood will start building renovations in late fall with the goal of opening by New Year’s. The building, which will be called The Workshop Brewing Company Kingsley Local, will host a taproom and small on-site brewing operation, producing experimental and limited-edition brews to supplement beer, cider, and wine varietals brought over from the Traverse City location.

“The building’s really cool,” says Kirkwood. “It has exposed brick on the side and an old-fashioned façade with a little foyer and glass front. It reminds me of a saloon.” In ...More info on site

Whisky news USA: Molson Coors to launch its first blended American whiskey in September
Molson Coors Beverage Company will launch its first spirit in September: a blended American whiskey called Five Trail, the Food Dive reported on August 4.

The 95-proof ultra-premium beverage is made in partnership with Kentucky's Bardstown Bourbon Co., and is a blend of Colorado single-malt whiskey made with Coors malts and three bourbons, cut to proof with Rocky Mountain water.

Five Trail will be sold under the Coors Whiskey Co. brand banner, and distributed at upscale liquor retailers in Colorado, Georgia, Nevada and New York. It will be sold in 750-milliliter bottles with a suggested price of $59.99.

Molson Coors has been using diversification and premiumization as strategies to turn its sales around. The announcement of this new ultra-premium liquor comes days after the company announced it would be stopping production of 11 economy beer brands and eliminating about 100 SKUs, as CEO Gavin Hattersley announced, "Premiumization is here to stay at Molson Coors."

In a matter of days, Molson Coors has gone from doing away with some products commonly found on the bottom shelf to an announcement that it would be taking residency on the top shelf.

But while the economy brands decision was first revealed in the company's call with investors following ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Carlsberg's partner in India calls for better governance in joint venture
Carlsberg's partner in India called on the Danish brewer to improve governance standards at their joint venture on August 4, citing "grave concerns" over its operations, Reuters reported.

Nepal-based Khetan Group and Carlsberg have been embroiled in a row since 2019 over how Carlsberg India has conducted internal inquiries into its business practices. This has led to protests from Khetan's representatives and raised concerns from Carlsberg India's auditor. read more

In its first public comment since the dispute began, Khetan's CSAPL (Singapore) Holdings Pte Ltd, the JV partner, urged Carlsberg "to honour its obligations to improve governance and act in the long-term interests of the business".

Carlsberg, one of India's biggest beer companies with a share of about 17% of a $7-billion market, said in a statement to Reuters that the company had taken efforts to improve governance in India to bring it up to "par with the high standards governing the other companies across our group."

"Unfortunately our JV partner has not always been a constructive partner in these efforts," Carlsberg added.

The Khetan group entity said in its statement that suspected governance issues prompted the resignation of Carlsberg India's auditor and an inspection of its accounts by Indian authorities.

It added that for several ...More info on site
