Japan: Kirin Holding’s head of brewery unit dies at age of 61
|
Japanese beverage maker Kirin Holdings Co Ltd on September 3 said Takayuki Fuse, the head of the company's brewery unit, has died at the age of 61, Reuters reported.
Fuse, who joined Kirin group in 1982, succumbed to ventricular fibrillation at a Tokyo hospital on September 2, a company spokesperson said. Just last month, he had been appointed as chairman of the Brewers Association of Japan.
Kirin Holdings Chief Executive Yoshinori Isozaki will concurrently run the beer unit for the time being, the company said.

Papua New Guinea: Heineken 0.0 expands into supermarkets and stores
|
The Heineken brand is now expanding out of Papua New Guinea’s licenced alcohol shops and into supermarkets and stores with its recently launched non-alcoholic beer, The National reported on September 2.
Marketing manager Sergey Penchev said the company’s direction with this product was to empower consumer choice and option and to meet the health and wellness trend on the global market.
Penchev said South Pacific Brewery is joining 59 Heineken operating companies who have introduced Heineken 0.0 in their markets.
“Heineken 0.0 has been a huge success in all the markets where it was introduced by fulfilling a consumer need and we expect this to be replicated in PNG driven by great innovation on brewing technique and taste,” he said.
At the Port Moresby launch a day earlier, managing director Ed Weggemans said this was South Pacific Brewery’s move in addressing issues affecting communities in the country.
“Issues include promoting responsible consumption and choices, addressing harmful use of alcoholic products and make moderation cool,” he said.
“The alcohol-free beer segment is nonexistent in Papua New Guinea.
“Our ambition is to lead the category development here with a premium proposition from a brand that consumers are proud to be seen with.
“We take our responsibility extremely seriously and, although

UK: Beer delivery workers to get double pay after strike threat
|
UK’s beer delivery workers said “cheers” on September 1 after their vote for strike action persuaded bosses to more than double a pay offer, the Morning Star reported.
Distribution firm GXO proposed a below-inflation 1.4 per cent rise to 1,000 draymen and women who distribute 40 per cent of the UK’s beer supplies to pubs across the country.
The workers, members of the Unite union, rejected the proposal and voted to strike for two days.
As a result, they will receive a 4 per cent increase.
Unite national officer for the drinks industry Joe Clarke said: “We regard this agreement as a significant victory for our members, given that the company had originally offered a paltry 1.4 per cent for this year.
“However, we wanted a pay rise that reflected the current cost of living and we have achieved that goal.
“It demonstrates what can be achieved when Unite members show determination and solidarity, backed up with a strong mandate for industrial action.”

Ukraine: Ukraine exports 2.8 mln tonnes of barley in July-August
|
Ukraine has exported 8.6 million tonnes of grain in the first two months of the 2021/22 July-June season versus 7.73 million at the same point a year earlier, agriculture ministry data showed on September 1.
That included 4.6 million tonnes of wheat, 2.8 million tonnes of barley and 1.26 million tonnes of corn, the data showed.
Ukraine plans to thresh the record 80.6 million tonnes of grain in 2021, up from 65 million tonnes in 2020. The export may jump to 60.7 million tonnes in 2021/22 from 44.7 million in 2020/21.
The ministry this week said farms had almost completed the 2021 wheat harvest, threshing 32.52 million tonnes from 99.4% of the sowing area, with a yield of 4.62 tonnes per hectare.
The government has said grain exports could include 23.8 million tonnes of wheat, 30.9 million tonnes of corn and 5.2 million tonnes of barley.
Ukrainian last season's exports included 23.1 million tonnes of corn, 16.6 million tonnes of wheat and 4.2 million tonnes of barley.
