USA, WI: Lion’s Tail Brewing Co. looking to move to Wauwatosa
|
A new brewery could be coming to Wauwatosa soon, the Milwaukee Business Sentinel reported on September 1.
The Neenah-based Lion’s Tail Brewing Co. is looking to move into the former Wisconsin Garden and Pet Supply on North Avenue, which closed this summer.
If approved by the city, the brewery would take over 8520 W. North Ave., 8524 W. North Ave. and 2315 N. 85th St. through a land combination. The Wauwatosa Plan Commission will meet Sept. 13 and is expected to consider the land combination and proposal for the brewery.
According to documents filed with the city, the brewery plans to brew 1,000 to 2,500 barrels per year of "high-quality, small-batch craft beer in many different styles."
Plans for the brewery include several taprooms and "beer garden-style spaces where customers can enjoy our beers and malt beverages (hard seltzer) in an interesting yet relaxing environment," the proposal said.
The brewery plans to serve some food as well as provide food truck options for customers.
The brewery also plans to use the former building and the space between the brewery and taproom.
"We will have an outdoor beer garden with seating in the existing 'covered greenhouse' in front of the former garden

USA, NJ: King’s Road Brewing Company to hold grand opening of its second location on September 17
|
King’s Road Brewing Company will have its grand opening of its second South Jersey location on Sept. 17 at The Feed Mill at Medford Village, a destination marketplace, the Burlington County Times reported on September 1.
King’s Road Brewing Company’s Haddonfield location is not going anywhere, but now there will be more of King’s Road Brewing to enjoy.
Bob Hochgertel, co-owner and managing director of King’s Road Brewing Company, said when the pandemic first hit more than a year ago, they didn’t know how it would impact their business. Turns out, there was no need to worry.
“The Alcohol Beverage Control Division of New Jersey was really great in allowing New Jersey breweries to start curbside and delivery during the pandemic,” Hochgertel said.
“We were closed for one day, the first Monday of the pandemic, and then never closed again,'' he recalled. "During the pandemic, we recognized demand for our beer was actually greater than our supply, so we started looking for a new production facility and Medford was it. Our facility is larger than the one in Haddonfield by about twice.
“… We’re so excited to now have a loading dock, so when we get our grain delivery or kegs going in and out,

USA, DE: Lewes Brewing Company unveils plans to build production facility in Lewes
|
The owners of Lewes Brewing Company have unveiled their plans to build a microbrewery along Savannah Road near the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crossing in Lewes, the Cape Gazette reported on September 1.
Owners Christine and Dave Jones went before the city’s joint site development ad hoc review committee Aug. 26, where they received a positive recommendation to mayor and city council.
The plan is to use the four existing buildings on the 0.63-acre parcel. The brewery operation and tasting room will be in the westernmost building on the site. The building that was most recently used as a resale shop is planned for offices, while two buildings on the east side of the property will be used for storage.
Doug Warner of Element Design says the brewery will likely have an industrial look. Large windows are planned for the west wall of the building that would display the brewery’s tanks to those driving into town or using the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail. The outside of the building’s existing west wall has a large advertisement for Delaware Realty.
Plans show an L-shaped bar with space for about 15 people. A small indoor seating area would be complemented with an outdoor patio. The patio would be the

A pioneer of craft brewing that opened in Midtown Reno over 20 years ago and shuttered during the pandemic is reopening on Friday, September 3 with a new name and young brewers at the helm, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
The old Silver Peak Brewery and Restaurant at 124 Wonder St. will henceforth be known as Huntsman Brewing when its doors swing open at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3.

Ukraine: Ukraine exports 2.8 mln tonnes of barley in July-August
|
Ukraine has exported 8.6 million tonnes of grain in the first two months of the 2021/22 July-June season versus 7.73 million at the same point a year earlier, agriculture ministry data showed on September 1.
That included 4.6 million tonnes of wheat, 2.8 million tonnes of barley and 1.26 million tonnes of corn, the data showed.
Ukraine plans to thresh the record 80.6 million tonnes of grain in 2021, up from 65 million tonnes in 2020. The export may jump to 60.7 million tonnes in 2021/22 from 44.7 million in 2020/21.
The ministry this week said farms had almost completed the 2021 wheat harvest, threshing 32.52 million tonnes from 99.4% of the sowing area, with a yield of 4.62 tonnes per hectare.
The government has said grain exports could include 23.8 million tonnes of wheat, 30.9 million tonnes of corn and 5.2 million tonnes of barley.
Ukrainian last season's exports included 23.1 million tonnes of corn, 16.6 million tonnes of wheat and 4.2 million tonnes of barley.

Papua New Guinea: Heineken 0.0 expands into supermarkets and stores
|
The Heineken brand is now expanding out of Papua New Guinea’s licenced alcohol shops and into supermarkets and stores with its recently launched non-alcoholic beer, The National reported on September 2.
Marketing manager Sergey Penchev said the company’s direction with this product was to empower consumer choice and option and to meet the health and wellness trend on the global market.
Penchev said South Pacific Brewery is joining 59 Heineken operating companies who have introduced Heineken 0.0 in their markets.
“Heineken 0.0 has been a huge success in all the markets where it was introduced by fulfilling a consumer need and we expect this to be replicated in PNG driven by great innovation on brewing technique and taste,” he said.
At the Port Moresby launch a day earlier, managing director Ed Weggemans said this was South Pacific Brewery’s move in addressing issues affecting communities in the country.
“Issues include promoting responsible consumption and choices, addressing harmful use of alcoholic products and make moderation cool,” he said.
“The alcohol-free beer segment is nonexistent in Papua New Guinea.
“Our ambition is to lead the category development here with a premium proposition from a brand that consumers are proud to be seen with.
“We take our responsibility extremely seriously and, although

UK: Beer delivery workers to get double pay after strike threat
|
UK’s beer delivery workers said “cheers” on September 1 after their vote for strike action persuaded bosses to more than double a pay offer, the Morning Star reported.
Distribution firm GXO proposed a below-inflation 1.4 per cent rise to 1,000 draymen and women who distribute 40 per cent of the UK’s beer supplies to pubs across the country.
The workers, members of the Unite union, rejected the proposal and voted to strike for two days.
As a result, they will receive a 4 per cent increase.
Unite national officer for the drinks industry Joe Clarke said: “We regard this agreement as a significant victory for our members, given that the company had originally offered a paltry 1.4 per cent for this year.
“However, we wanted a pay rise that reflected the current cost of living and we have achieved that goal.
“It demonstrates what can be achieved when Unite members show determination and solidarity, backed up with a strong mandate for industrial action.”
