Brewery company Red Stripe has its eyes set on further building out of the local beer market as it looks to unleash new beverages and whet the appetites of consumers, the Jamaica Observer reported on December 15.
“Our dream for 2022 is to shape the future of beer and move beyond, to win the hearts of consumers. We will continue to strike a balance between short-term delivery, long-term sustainability and between top-line growth and overall stakeholder value creation. We will continue to drive success through the five work streams [which seeks to drive superior]: growth, cost and value, digital and technology, sustainability and responsibility and people & culture,” Luis Prata, managing director of Red Stripe said in responding to questions from the Business Observer this week.
Fresh off its latest win after copping the coveted Manufacturer of the Year award for 2020 at the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) awards ceremony held last week, the company's intent is to further build on its track record of excellence.

Malaysia: Carlsberg Malaysia launches new variant of Kronenbourg 1664
|
Carlsberg Malaysia has launched a new variant for its French premium wheat beer range, Kronenbourg 1664, The Star reported on December 17.
Called the 1664 Rosé, the pink-amber brew has a refreshing taste with hints of fruity raspberry.
Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said the 1664 Rosé — which comes in the brand’s iconic bottle — gave customers more choices of wheat beer.
“The 1664 is the leading brand in our portfolio and has been growing steadily these years in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Encouraged by its performance, especially in the off-trade, we wanted to share this new flavour with the public,” he said during a media launch at Envi Skydining in Menara TA One, Kuala Lumpur.
Carlsberg Malaysia marketing director Caroline Moreau shared the beer brand’s humble beginnings.
“Being the only beer in the world named after a date, 1664 represents the year the brewery was founded in Strasbourg, France.
“Kronenbourg 1664 is brewed with premium ingredients like the unique Strisselspalt hops.
“With the addition of 1664 Rosé to the already popular 1664 Blanc, we promise that more good taste and moments can be shared with friends,” she said.
After China, Malaysia is the second country in Asia to launch the 1664 Rosé.

UK: Barley crop estimated down 14.2% this year
|
The United Kingdom's wheat harvest this year rose to 13.99 million tonnes, up 44.8% from the previous season, Britain's farming ministry said on December 16.
The estimate was marginally down from an initial forecast of 14.02 million issued in October.
The rise was driven partly by a 29.1% rise in area to 1.79 million hectares following more favourable planting conditions.
Average wheat yields rose 12.2% to 7.8 tonnes per hectare.
The previous season's wet weather during the autumn planting window for wheat forced many farmers to switch to spring-sown crops such as spring barley.
Rapeseed production fell 5.5% to 981,000 tonnes with a decrease in planted area partially offset by a rise in yields.
The estimate was marginally above a previous forecast of 977,000 tonnes issued in October.
The planted area fell 19% to 307,000 hectares, far below the peak of 756,000 hectares in 2012.
The average yield was 3.2 tonnes per hectare, up from the prior season's 2.7 tonnes.
Problems controlling flea beetles, following a ban on some widely used insecticides, have contributed to the decline in area in recent years.
The ministry estimated the barley crop at 6.96 million tonnes, down 14.2%.

France: Barley exports outside the EU increase in November but still short of volume shipped in August
|
French soft wheat shipments outside the European Union last month reached their lowest for a November since the 2018/19 season as shipments to China slowed following a brisk October, Refinitiv data showed.
Soft wheat exports to destinations outside the 27-country bloc totalled 802,700 tonnes in November, the fifth month of the 2021/22 season, an initial estimate based on Refinitiv loading data showed.
Algeria was the largest non-EU destination for French soft wheat, with an initial estimate of 256,700 tonnes, followed by China with 237,700 tonnes.
That is down from the 514,800 tonnes of soft wheat loaded for China in October, which was the highest monthly volume so far to the Asian country in 2021/22.
French barley exports outside the EU reached 354,400 tonnes, up from the 269,300 tonnes recorded in October, but still short of the 909,900 shipped in August.
China continued to dominated barley flows, with the November shipments including 255,800 tonnes of feed barley and 62,000 tonnes of malting barley for the Asian country. Another 28,000 tonnes of malting barley were shipped to Colombia while 8,500 went to Brazil.

Creating the first fully-integrated, grower-direct supply chain for NZH, the partnership offers brewers the benefits of a grower-direct supplier relationship with the convenience of having logistical and sales support managed in the United States and Canada.
