Brewery news USA, CO: Nine Denver breweries planning to open in 2022
One of the biggest brewery trends recently has been the opening of second (or even third) locations by all kinds of beer makers, large and small. At least two dozen breweries across Colorado have opened additional locations, or have announced plans to do so, in the past two years alone. Although not all of these second taprooms have brewing equipment, most maintain vibes similar to those of their original locations or add something new, the Denver Westword reported on January 19.

Of the fifteen or so breweries that opened in the Denver metro area in 2021 — from Greenwood Village to Westminster and from Aurora to Littleton — four were second or third locations.

Next year, at least six of the planned new breweries will fall into that category, while another — Wisconsin's MobCraft Beer — will open its first Colorado brewery, but its second overall. That leaves just two on the following list as brand-new entities. Still, the fact that new breweries are opening at all speaks well to the viability of the industry and consumers' continued desire for craft beer.

It's also just the beginning of what's to come in 2022. Two existing breweries, Crazy Mountain and Alpine Dog, plan to ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CO: Mythmaker Brewing to open in Fort Collins this year
There's no shortage of breweries in Fort Collins, but the Choice City is getting another one.

Mythmaker Brewing will open this spring at 1035 S Taft Hill Road, where McClellan's Brewing Company stood until pandemic struggles forced its closure last year, New Country 99.1 reported on January 18.

Thankfully, the new brewery is sure to please.

According to a press release from Indie Creative Co., owners Tom Moseman and Sarah Barlow are starting Mythmaker Brewing with plenty of experience — they've both worked at Fort Collins staples like Black Bottle Brewery, Snowbank Brewing, Fort Collins Brewing, and the former Red Truck Beer Company.

"The Fort Collins beer community is truly special because we're all working toward our shared passion for beer and sharing creative ways to brew and serve it," said Moseman in the release.

The brewery will live up to its mythical name with experimental beers like the Lichtenhainer, a German Smoke Sour Ale. If you're wary of new-age ales, don't worry — they'll also offer traditional brews like Hazy IPAs and Brown Ales.

Along with craft beer, Mythmaker Brewing will serve as a welcoming community space where Northern Coloradans can gather.

"My passion for this industry is truly the connection to the community," said Barlow. ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, GA: StillFire Brewing gets approval to buy land for its second location in metro-Atlanta
A Suwanee-based brewery is getting a second location in metro-Atlanta, FOX 5 Atlanta reported on January 19.

The Smyrna City Council voted 5-2 to approved a deal to sell land to StillFire Brewing.

The two-story facility will be located about three miles from The Battery Atlanta.

The location will be a full production brewery and distillery.

The space plans to feature patios, abeer garden, a rooftop patio overlooking the park and green, an exterior outdoor service station, two food truck bays and private event spaces.

It's set to open sometime in Summer 2023.

Brewery news USA, CA: Rouleur Brewing Company leases new brewing facility in San Marcos
A Carlsbad-based brewery, Rouleur Brewing Company just announced that it has negotiated with the Cohn Restaurant Group/Draft Republic to lease the brewing facility at 255 Redel Road in North City, San Marcos, California, Brewbound reported on January 20.

Since launching in March 2017, Rouleur’s sole brewing location has been the Brewery Igniter premises in Carlsbad. In mid-2020, Rouleur exited the Brewery Igniter Program, renegotiated its lease, and purchased the equipment from its landlord, HG Fenton. Since then, Rouleur has reached maximum capacity at its Carlsbad brewing facility and expanded to this second location. Rouleur considered adding additional fermentation vessels to its existing facility, however, they quickly ran into limitations, such as insufficient cold storage and an ample hot water supply. This new opportunity at the former home of Mason Ale Works will allow Rouleur to grow its maximum production capacity from 1,500 bbls to ~8,000 bbls. Rouleur will continue to operate its Carlsbad brewery and tasting room in conjunction with the new San Marcos facility.

This new location offers 3,970 square feet of interior brewing space and 2,271 square feet of exterior service-yard space. The brewery consists of a 15 bbl brewhouse, a 60 bbl hot-liquor tank, five 30 bbl fermentation ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CA: Lost Abbey Brewing Company launches new brewery outpost near Petco Park
A North County brewery whose name has religious overtones has faith in its new brewery outpost down near Petco Park, the NBC 7 San Diego reported on January 19.

The Lost Abbey Brewing Company, which has been "turning water into beer since 2006," as the San Marcos-based wags put it, has been using a "semi reverent set of images and beer names to depict the saints while the sinners come from a more conflicted and equally evocative place."

In 2018, Lost Abbey execs visited the Mexican Presbyterian Church down in the East Village, which, according to the brewery, was built in 1906 in the 200 block of 13th Street, and were converted. They had to have it.

The Church, as the Lost Abbey called it, opened at the tail end of 2021 and is now, as they say serving the faithful. Amen to that.

Brewery news USA, IL: Knox County Brewing Company to close its doors for good
The Knox County Brewing Company will soon close its doors for good, the family owners of the local taproom have decided, the Galesburg Register Mail reported on January 21.

The company, which opened in 2018, offers food, craft beer, kombucha and soda with a community-oriented approach. Owner Matthew Hansen said that despite the taproom’s success, the pandemic has slowed their number of customers. After he and his wife Sarah Hansen were unable to obtain a new location for the business, Hansen said the sale of the building they currently lease came as a sign for the family to move on.

“We're not hurting on money. We're not closing because there's a new brewery. We're not closing because we're being pushed out and we are not closing because Galesburg has been hard to work with,” Hansen said. “In fact, all the opposites are true.”

Hansen referred to Knox County Brewing Company’s location — about one and a half miles from downtown Galesburg — as inconvenient, but said it was never an issue until the pandemic. Hansen said the location was originally a benefit because it drew the kind of customers they were trying to attract: people who sought out the place instead ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NH: Tilton Brothers Brewing closing its doors for good
The steady flow of foot traffic into Tilton Brothers Brewing on Saturday, January 15 was only trumped by the overflowing emotions inside, the Seacoastonline reportedon January 19.

Beer lovers from across the Seacoast and beyond made the trek to Hampton to raise a glass to a beloved brewery many viewed as far more than simply a source of great beer.

The brewery, which is owned by brothers Ben and Dave Tilton, along with their partner, Joe Chase, announced earlier in the week that it would be closing its doors for good due to increasing financial pressures.

“I think one of our fellow mug clubbers put it best and said, ‘it’s like the death of a friend,’” said Rye’s Dave Meehan, No.2 on the brewery’s tight-knit mug club list that numbers nearly 200. “This is like a two-week wake.”

An Irish wake to be precise with the final calling hours for the always welcoming and fun-loving brewery off Route 1 slated for this weekend, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22 from 1 to 9 p.m.

“We’ll be trying to capture that last bit of magic and say goodbye,” said Ben Tilton, who did all of the brewing at Tilton Brothers and spent a good deal ...More info on site

Wild Wolf is running some specials - everything from growler fills to merchandise - has it heads to closing the doors for good on January 30.

Brewery news USA, CA: Marin Brewing Company closes after more than three decades in business
A North Bay legacy brewery has stopped bottling after more than three decades in business, KRON4 reported.

On Tuesday, January 18, Marin Brewing Company posted to its Instagram a photo of co-founders Craig Tasley and Brandon Moylan standing by a sign announcing the launch of their hoppy foray into business. The brewery began its ascent on April Fool’s Day of 1989, and by that October they were winning awards at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. The caption lets fans know that the company will call it quits on January 31.

The Larkspur facility and restaurant will both be closing, and already other big beer players have chimed in on Instagram to show their love of the pioneer.

“Absolute legends. You will be greatly missed,” wrote San Francisco institution 21st Amendment Brewing.

Petaluma and Santa Rosa brewers Hen House were right behind them to thank the North Bay pioneers and offer them a socially-distanced cheers.

Brewery news Australia: Craft beer latest to be affected by Omicron-fuelled supply chain crisis
Craft beer is the latest product to be affected by the Omicron-fuelled supply chain crisis in Australia, The West Australian reported on January 21.

Independent brewers have struggled to get the materials they need to keep making beer, an industry body said.

And the massive amount of workers in isolation is slowing down the can’s journey from brewery to bottle shop.

“There have been a lot of challenges in the last two years, but I don’t think there’s anything like what we’re seeing now,” said Kylie Lethbridge, chief executive of the Independent Brewers Association.

“We‘ve got an eight per cent overall market share, but we employ 50 per cent of the industry, so we’re more labour intensive.

“So if you have half your workforce off, because they're either isolating with Covid or have been a close contact, then that’s a massive challenge for meeting production schedules.”

James Harvey, director of Sydney’s Yulli’s Brews, said the situation felt like a lockdown without the financial support.

“There’s a labour shortage, and the impact it has when one person is suddenly a close contact, or has to isolate, and just how prevalent that’s been over the past month – it has a serious impact on how you run the business,” ...More info on site

Barley news EU: Malting barley exports in December total 22,000 tonnes, no feed barley shipments are reported
French soft wheat shipments outside the European Union last month were lower than in November as shipments to Algeria fell and no feed barley exports beyond the EU were recorded during the month, Refinitiv data showed.

Soft wheat exports to destinations outside the 27-country bloc totalled 808,000 tonnes in December, the sixth month of the 2021/22 season, an initial estimate based on Refinitiv loading data showed.

China was the largest non-EU destination for French soft wheat, with an initial estimate of 508,000 tonnes, followed by Morocco with 213,000 tonnes.

That is still below the 514,800 tonnes of soft wheat loaded for China in October, which was the highest monthly volume so far to the Asian country in 2021/22.

Around 33,000 tonnes of soft wheat were shipped to Algeria in December after the country led total exports in November, and no shipments are due to the country in January, Refinitiv data showed. FRWHEAT/PORTS

Farm office FranceAgriMer last week lowered its forecast of French soft wheat exports outside the EU this season, to 9.0 million tonnes from 9.2 million in December, partly because of stalled sales to Algeria, which traders attribute to a diplomatic row.

No feed barley loaded for non-EU destinations in December, reflecting the absence of ...More info on site

Barley news Ukraine: 2021/22 barley exports to-date total 5.4 mln tonnes
Ukraine has exported 36.1 million tonnes of grain so far in the 2021/22 July-June season, up 27.7% from the same stage a season earlier, agriculture ministry data showed on January 21.

The total included 16.6 million tonnes of wheat, 5.4 million tonnes of barley and 13.7 million tonnes of corn, the data showed.

Agriculture Minister Roman Leshchenko said last month the country harvested a record 84 million tonnes of grain in clean weight in 2021, up from 65 million tonnes in 2020.

The ministry has said the 2021/22 exports could include 24.5 million tonnes of wheat, 30.9 million of corn and 5.2 million of barley.

Ukraine's exports last season included 23.1 million tonnes of corn, 16.6 million of wheat and 4.2 million of barley.
