Brewery news USA, GA: South Main Brewery coming to Watkinsville sometime this summer
As the hot summer settles on Northeast Georgia in coming months, the taps at a new craft brewery in Watkinsville are expected to flow with fresh, cold beer, the Athens Banner-Herald reported on March 9.

South Main Brewery, which adopts its business image from an early 20th-century gas station along South Main Street, will operate out of Wire Park, a large commercial and residential development under way off Barnett Shoals Road a few blocks from downtown.

Four men — Dutch Guest, Brock Toole, Darrell Goodman and Nic Farley — have combined their individual talents and business acumen to stage the taproom, where new flavors and styles of beer will fill glasses and mugs.

The brewery, which they expect will open sometime this summer, will showcase several beers including lagers, India Pale Ales, Hazy IPAs and ales along with other styles with an idea of finding what local customers prefer.

“We’ll definitely pilot batches to get a feel,” said Farley, who was brought into the partnership as the head brewer. The community’s response to the beers will decide which will become a staple at the location, he said.

The brewery is under construction in the food court of Wire Park, which will house several restaurants. ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WA: Uprise Brewing Co. opening new brewery and restaurant in Kendall Yards, Spokane
Uprise Brewing Co. is opening a brewery and restaurant in a mixed-use building in Kendall Yards this summer, The Spokesman-Review reported on March 6.

The 6,500-square-foot, two-story building at 617 N. Ash St. will consist of a brewery with a 10-barrel system, an all-ages taproom and restaurant with seating for 175 people, a play area for children, and a large, dog-friendly patio. The building also will include five Airbnb studios.

Uprise Brewing was founded by brothers Brandon and Ryan Hare, and Jonathan Sweatt, owner of The Flying Goat, Downriver Grill and Republic Pi. The ownership group is also spearheading the mixed-use development.

“Our mission at Uprise is not only to produce the highest quality food and beer, but also to create a space where everyone feels welcome and can come together around the table to eat, drink, play, and live,” Brandon Hare said in a statement. “The word Uprise means ‘to stand up’ or ‘to come into view.’ Uprise is a verb, it is an action. We want to actively do our part to positively impact our community and city.”

Agnus Development LLC, whose principal is Sweatt, purchased the site for $480,000 in 2019, according to Spokane County Assessor’s Office records.

The city issued a ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, PA: Isaac’s Craft Kitchen & Brewery hoping to launch in Lebanon in mid-April
Isaac’s Restaurants will open its Isaac’s Craft Kitchen & Brewery at North Cornwall Commons in mid-April, if things go as planned, but the usual supply chain uncertainty and required state inspection make it hard to know precisely when the brewpub will be ready to serve guests, LebTown.com reported on March 9.

Long known in the region for their sandwiches, the Lebanon taproom – the company’s 14th location – will be the second true brewery for Isaac’s, which began exploring the craft beer space about a decade ago.

The brewery will be at 119 Springwood Drive, in the same building as Ancestor Coffeehouse & Creperie. The North Cornwall Commons complex also includes the recently opened Mick’s All American Pub, another watering hole with Lancaster County roots.

Isaac’s Restaurants Business & Market Development director Johnny Roberts told LebTown the brewery origin story in an interview last week, explaining that the idea took root out of a series of craft beer dinners at Isaac’s Downtown Lancaster location, where a full-service “Pickle Bar” was the official beginning of the mini-chain’s foray into the libation space.

Roberts explained that those four-course/four-beer dinners, featuring craft brewers discussing the art and science of brewing, helped reveal a path for the company ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OH: COhatch Beachwood and North High Brewing Co. to open shared work-social space and adjacent brewery on March 10
COhatch Beachwood and North High Brewing Co. will officially open a shared space at Beachwood Mall on Thursday, March 10, Cleveland.com reported.

The shared work-social space and adjacent brewery will be open 1 to 7 p.m. with ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. The St. Patrick’s Day-themed party will include live music, activities, food and drink.

COhatch, founded in 2016, offers work, social and family space in 30 locations throughout the country. The Beachwood space is the company’s largest project to date at more than 33,000 square feet, covering 60 private offices, meeting and event spaces, a sports simulator, podcast room, game room and more.

The co-working space operator joined forces with real-estate company Brookfield Properties to turn the two-story Cedar Road space into offices and workspace for companies. The site formerly was Maggiano’s Little Italy and H&M.

COhatch is attached to North High’s latest restaurant and bar, where the brewery’s seltzers will be made.

North High Brewing was founded in Columbus in 2011 and has multiple locations in Ohio including Columbus, Cincinnati and also Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood.

COhatch Beachwood and North High will be located at 26300 Cedar Road, Beachwood.

Brewery news USA, TX: 903 Brewers break ground at their new location in Sherman
It was an exciting day for 903 Brewers, as they broke ground at their new location in Sherman, News12 reported on March 6.

On Saturday, March 5, the community joined founder and brewer Jeremy Roberts and his family at their new forty-two thousand square foot production site.

The well-known brewery will be moving from its long-time home on South Elm street to Northgate Dr. and Hwy 1417 in Sherman.

After nine years in business, Roberts says that right now they are maxed out at their current facility and can’t keep up with demand.

“As we’ve grown so has the demand for our beer,” said Roberts.

“We’re really excited because not only will our customers be able to enjoy a burger and a beer but they’ll be able to see into our production facility,” said Roberts.

For over two years, Roberts has been working tirelessly to bring this to life.

“Not only do they provide jobs, but a unique atmosphere and a culture,” said City Council Member, Shawn Teamann.

With plans to open their doors by Jan. 2023, the brewery aims to bring new job opportunities to the city of Sherman.

“We’re just excited that they’re here and that they’re growing here , they plan to stay here and that ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MI: Plans for Mill Creek Brewery in Dexter hit another snag
In Dexter, plans for the new Mill Creek Brewery hit another snag at the City’s Planning Commission meeting on March 7. The Commission held a public hearing to consider a special land use request for the proposed project located at 8180 Main St. in Dexter, the empty parcel across Mill Creek from the fire station, The Sun Times News reported on March 9.

A public hearing is necessary before the Planning Commission can decide on the plans—approve, reject, or postpone. The process has been a frustrating journey for owners Nate Pound and Justin Dalenberg. Their original hearing was scheduled for December 6.

The proposed is a 9,500 sq. ft. single-story restaurant and nanobrewery with outdoor patio seating, accessory retail, a bike shop offering rental and repair, and hiking/biking snacks. The delays and postponements have not been entirely unfruitful, however. The City has worked with the two to resolve water, wastewater, landscaping, pedestrian access, traffic, and parking questions.

Before the hearing opened, Allison Bishop, Property and Development Manager for A.R. Brouwer, told the Commission that Mill Creek Brewery is over a $3 million investment in Dexter and is projected to generate between $80-90,000 annually in taxes for the City.

Ms. Bishop also explained how the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OR: Southeast Portland’s Brewery 26 is up to speed and ready to cruise
The road has been long and at times bumpy, but Southeast Portland’s Brewery 26 is up to speed and ready to cruise, The Oregonian reported on March 8.

The brewery this weekend holds a grand opening for its new brewhouse and taproom in the Buckman neighborhood. The event began Friday and continues through Sunday night with new beers, discounts, bands and food.

“We’re grateful to have made it to this opening after everything COVID threw at us over the last couple years,” said Brewery 26 founder Andy Shaw, who owns the brewery with business partner Keith Hattori.

Shaw was a homebrewer making beer in his Cully neighborhood garage in early 2017, but his Oregon Sun Hazy IPA won best beer at the 2018 Nano Beer Fest in Portland, and he decided to turn the hobby into a business.

Brewery 26 — which is named is a tribute to U.S. 26, the highway that connects many of the great aspects of Oregon, Shaw says — announced plans in 2020 to open a taproom on Southeast Powell Boulevard at 58th Avenue.

The taproom has operated there for the past two years, but Shaw was still brewing out of his garage, so he and Hattori simultaneously began building ...More info on site

Barley news Australia: Malting barley exports quadruple in January this year
Australia exported 73,647 tonnes of malting barley, 549,451 tonnes of feed barley and 25,517 tonnes of sorghum in January, according to the latest export data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

While the malting figure is almost four times the 18,559 tonnes shipped in December, the feed barley and sorghum shipments were down 41 per cent from 938,295 tonnes and 62pc from 73,781 tonnes respectively shipped in December.

Vietnam was the biggest destination for January-shipped malting at 33,381 tonnes, and was followed closely by Mexico on 33,000 tonnes.

On feed barley, Saudi Arabia on 229,105 tonnes and Jordan on 126,000 tonnes were the biggest destinations by far, with the UAE on 57,829 tonnes in third place.

China on 23,330 tonnes accounted for 91pc of Australian sorghum exported in January.

Flexi Grain pool manager Sam Roache said January’s barley exports were around 330,000t lower than the December total, and well below last year’s January-to-May average export pace.

“On the feed side, Middle East was unchanged month on month, while Asian demand dropped like a stone, down 350,000 tonnes to almost nothing.

“This switch was in line with our expectations…and was driven by importers favouring the freshly minted and relatively cheap Australian feed wheat production ex New South ...More info on site

Brewery news The Netherlands & Russia: Heineken to stop exports to, halt all new investments in Russia
Heineken will stop its exports to Russia because of the war in Ukraine. All new investments in the country have also been halted, the brewer confirms after reporting by NRC and others.

Heineken makes the beers Zhigulevskoe and Okhota for the local market in Russia. With approximately 1,800 employees, the company claims to be the third largest brewer in the country. However, the Russian market represents less than two percent of Heineken's worldwide sales.

A statement from the brewer says nothing about restrictions on local production. Heineken does indicate that the brewing and beverage sector is not subject to sanctions.

"We are shocked and saddened to see the tragedy unfold in Ukraine. Our hearts go out to all those affected," the company said. Heineken will continue to monitor developments closely in the coming days and weeks.

Brewery news UK: Heineken unveils new lower-alcohol, less-bitter Heineken Silver beer
Heineken has unveiled its “biggest ever” launch – a lower-alcohol, less-bitter spin-off called Heineken Silver, The Grocer reported on March 4.

The brewing giant’s new lager (4% abv) uses an “ice-cold brewing process” to create a significantly less bitter taste than the brand’s core lager and a “lighter drinking profile”.

Heineken is set to splash £20 mln on marketing the launch, and will mount a one million can sampling campaign to build awareness.

The launch is especially designed to appeal to gen Z and millennial shoppers. The beer category was “underindexing with 18 to 34-year-olds – that’s a historic trend”, Heineken category & commercial strategy director Alexander Wilson told The Grocer.

This age group was “looking for a beer that is a little bit less bitter”, he added – hence the new drink had “roughly half the bitterness of Heineken original” at 10 IBUs (International Bitterness Units).

It will launch on 21 March in 330ml bottles and 330ml ‘slimline’ cans, which Wilson said would “nicely differentiate it from the rest of the category” as well as the core beer.

It marks the second major Heineken launch in weeks: last month, the brewer unveiled Strongbow Ultra Dark Fruit, a lower-calorie cider similarly aimed at younger shoppers.

“It’s important ...More info on site
