Malt news USA, WI: Malteurop Malting Company opens new bagging facility
MMC, one of the leading suppliers of North American grown and malted products and imported malts to North American craft brewers and distillers, is pleased to announce the opening of a state-of-the-art bagging facility. This new bagging facility improves upon the company’s logistics capabilities to better serve our craft brewing and distilling customers, Brewbound reported on April 13.

MMC’s new bagging facility improves upon our industry leading customer service with a bag filling and packaging line with automatic bag stacking and pallet wrapping, a building that includes storage, and malt conveying from the elevator.

This new automated facility enhances malt quality by reducing dust, husk, and breakage with a capacity of 10 to 130 tons per shift. With ready pallets and fast truck loading from the loading dock, craft brewers and distillers receive improved malt quality with better logistics capabilities.

Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – also known as Brew City USA – MMC has malthouses in Great Falls, Montana, and Winona, Minnesota, in the United States, as well as in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. A fourth North American malthouse in Meoqui, Chihuahua in Mexico is currently in development. MMC also has numerous transload facilities across North America, making bulk delivery of malts especially ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CA: Benny Boy Brewing launches in Los Angeles’ Lincoln Heights neighborhood
Benny Boy Brewing, the first combined brewery and cidery in Los Angeles, has newly opened in the city’s Lincoln Heights neighborhood, minutes from downtown. Anchored by a spacious outdoor beer and cider garden, Benny Boy Brewing transports guests to the great urban outdoors for a fresh, open-air craft beverage experience, Brewbound reported on April 14.

Husband-wife duo Ben Farber and Chelsey Rosetter spent more than five years researching centuries-old brewing and fermentation techniques throughout Europe in preparation for the launch of Benny Boy Brewing, along with Farber’s 12+ years honing his craft as a brewer.

By tapping into Old World methods, adapted for modern-day equipment, Benny Boy Brewing produces clean, dry ciders and classic, European-inspired beers with a California twist. In place of additives, Benny Boy Brewing only brews with unprocessed whole flower hops and uses time and gravity to clear its beers for a pure, naturally carbonated product.

“We’ve always dreamed of opening our own brewery where we produce both beer and cider through methods that respect quality over production speed. Our approach to brewing and cidermaking is to let nature do the work without filtering or forced carbonation,” said Ben Farber, co-founder, Benny Boy Brewing. “We’re also serving beer straight from ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, AZ: The Hundred Mile Brewing Co. set to open this summer in Tempe
A new brewing company is set to open this summer north of Tempe Town Lake, KTAR News reported on April 14.

The Hundred Mile Brewing Co. will open on Scottsdale Road, south of the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway after renovations have been underway to offer a local and comfortable vibe, according to the website.

The brewery will feature an open kitchen with a rotating beer menu that reflects the trends and innovations within the industry, the company said in a press release.

Founder Sue Rigler said in the release that everything from floors to the water filtration systems are being customized to guarantee the best possible products and customer experience available.

“We made the decision to take our new space down to the studs so that we had a blank slate to bring our vision forward,” Rigler said.

A head brewer, Valerie Adee, was recently hired to help guide HMBC through the launch and to assist with future growth.

“I’m excited to join the passionate team at Hundred Mile Brewing and be a part of the brewery from its early inception,” Adee said in the release.

“They have an impressive and diverse vision for their portfolio, and an amazing team of intelligent and collaborative people ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OH: Ohio Brewing Co. to open its long-awaited Columbus location
Ohio Brewing Co. will open its long-awaited Columbus location soon, 614NOW reported on April 14.

The brewery, which has operated since 1997 at its only other location in Cuyahoga Falls, has been preparing to bring a massive brewery and taproom to Columbus since 2018, and after several years, it’s nearly ready to open.

Ohio Bewing’s Columbus space is located at 421 E. Second Ave. in Milo-Grogan.

The 40,000 square foot space, which will offer food and brew beers in-house, is almost here, according to the brewery. While Ohio Brewing hasn’t offered an opening date just yet, they announced that the official grand opening will be coming soon.

The taproom features many Ohio-themed decorations as well, including state pennants and nearly full-scale replica aircraft hanging from the ceiling, a nod to the state’s rich history with aviation.

Brewery news USA, PA: Golden Age Beer Co. finally fully open in Homestead
Golden Age Beer Co., like the lagers it loves, is taking some time to be completely ready, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on April 15.

The brewery, reborn during the pandemic, opened partially back in November, if only tentatively and mostly in the outdoor courtyard. It briefly (2018-19) had been Enix Brewing in the former Levine Bros. Hardware on Homestead’s main drag.

From the start, the new owners — the same guys who run Independent Brewing Co. and Hidden Harbor in Squirrel Hill and Lorelei in East Liberty — pledged that they would be pouring a lot of lagers, or the type of old-school beer beer that tends to mature slowly and at cold temperatures. Never mind that their first beer release was a pale ale. That was just quicker to make and more popular with a lot of people, at least for now.

The brewery’s grand opening this weekend completely lines up with lager having a sustained moment, including in the Pittsburgh area. Breweries here aren’t just making and selling lagers, they’re also celebrating them, as Old Thunder Brewing Co. in Blawnox did back in February with its “A Celebration of Pennsylvania Lager.” Golden Age was there.

On April 30, the North Side’s ...More info on site

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia says outlook for recovery in 2022 is encouraging
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd says the outlook for business recovery in 2022 is encouraging as Malaysia begins transitioning to the endemic phase of Covid-19 and reopens international borders to travel and tourism, according to managing director Stefano Clini, The Sun Daily reported on April 15.

The two developments send very encouraging signals for the outlook of business recovery in the country, he said at a press briefing after Carlsberg’s AGM on April 14.

However, Clini expects 2022 to be another challenging year with the emergence of a new variant of the Covid-19 virus and escalating commodity prices exacerbated by the Ukraine-Russia crisis, which create costs pressure and uncertainties.

Clini disclosed that the group’s sales have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels as the continued closure of entertainment outlets limits the recovery in the on-trade channel.

In spite of that, he is confident that the brewer will be able to “navigate the uncharted waters” and deliver growth this year through innovation and premiumisation of its products.

“This year, we will continue investing in our flagship brand Carlsberg while intensifying the premiumisation in 1664 Blanc, Somersby Cider, Connors’ Stout Porter and Asahi Super Dry. Importantly, this year will mark our entry in the alcohol-free brew segment in ...More info on site

Brewery news Sri Lanka: Carlsberg’s Sri Lanka business doing well so far
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd said its business in Sri Lanka has been doing well so far and that the group will continue to closely monitor the situation in the country, which is in the midst of an economic crisis, the Edge Markets reported on April 14.

Managing director (MD) Stefano Clini said the brewery group holds a 25% stake in Sri Lanka's Lion Brewery (Ceylon) Plc, and that operations there have been smooth up to this month, while "volume has been increasing even".

"But of course, there's always a risk but so far they have managed to keep the operation running every day and every night.

"For the time being, this (Sri Lanka's situation) is not going to decrease our belief in the level of investments in the country for the long term," he told reporters during a media briefing after the group's 52nd annual general meeting on April 14.

On Tuesday, Sri Lanka announced that it would temporarily default on its foreign debts as it faced its worst economic crisis in more than 70 years, while mass protests had broken out over major power cuts and the soaring costs of food and fuel, which have prompted government officials to urge Sri Lankans working ...More info on site
