Brewery news USA, IN: Myriad Brewing Company hoping to open in Warrick County soon
If everything goes according to plan, Indiana's Myriad Brewing Company will be opening the doors to their new location in Warrick County, and they will be serving more than just beer, wkdq.com reported on May 10.

Myriad Brewing Company first opened its doors in Downtown Evansville in November 2018. Since that time they have hosted countless events and served up thousands of pints of locally crafted beers. Located at 101 Southeast First Street, they have a dozen brews on tap.

Not quite three years after opening in Evansville, Myriad made the announcement in August 2021 that they would be expanding with a new location in Warrick County, Indiana. The new taphouse will be located at 8245 High Pointe Drive in Newburgh.

Myriad Brewing Company will brew more than just beer at their Warrick County taphouse. Aside from the microbrews on tap, you will soon be able to enjoy a cup of fresh java as the new taphouse will also feature a new coffee bar too.

Construction has been underway on the new taphouse location for several months. On May 10, Myriad Brewing Company shared an update to social media with the exciting news that the parking lot has been paved with fresh asphalt.

Brewery news Canada, BC: Deadfall Brewing releases its first beers in Prince George
A new “intimate and inclusive craft-brewery” has released its first beers in Prince George, British Columbia, the Canadian Beer News reported on May 9.

Deadfall Brewing has been founded by a team that includes head brewer Brandon Baerwald, Erin Baerwald, Jane Fowler, and Will Emery.

While permits are not yet in place for draught sales in the brewery taproom, the retail shop was opened over the weekend to sell cans of four beers including Retrogression West Coast IPA (6.5% abv), Basal Brown Ale (5.2% abv), Cache Kölsch (5% abv), and Circinate Dry-Hopped Sour (4.7% abv). The same beers were also pouring as guest taps at fellow Prince George brewery Trench Brewing., and cans are available at College Heights Liquor Store.

This initial line-up will soon be joined by two other brands, Persister Pale Ale (5.2% abv) and Succession Hazy IPA (6.5% abv).

Deadfall Brewing is located at 1733 Nicholson Street in Prince George.

Brewery news USA, ME: Husband and wife team launching Sundrop Café and Brewery in York
York Street has a new brewer moving in, but Jonathan Cook and Suzanne LePage say their new Sundrop Café and Brewery is about more than the beer, the Seacost Online reported on May 9.

“I’m not really playing in the world of breweries,” said Cook, who once made beer for Portsmouth Brewery. “That business model isn’t anything I’m interested in.”

Cook and LePage, who got married in York but live in central Massachusetts, have been searching for the perfect place to replant their creative café/brewery/music venue concept. They were thriving in Sturbridge for six years with that model at the Homefield Kitchen and Brewery when the coronavirus pandemic hit and led to their closure.

Sundrop is the second incarnation, offering craft beer by Cook, who has brewed since 1996. There will be about 16 taps at Sundrop, featuring many guest beers as well. The menu will feature locally sourced burgers, soups and charcuterie boards, and wines both local and imported. They say frequent live music nights will tie it all together to make Sundrop a full communal experience.

The Sundrop Café and Brewery is taking over the former site of Rick’s Restaurant. Rick’s has moved to a new location on Route 1.

Brewery news USA, IA: SingleSpeed Brewing Co. coming to Des Moines soon
Next stop for SingleSpeed Brewing Co.: Des Moines, The Des Moines Register reported on May 7.

The Waterloo-based brewery is embarking on an adaptive re-use of a former tire shop at 303 Scott Ave., part of Des Moines' Market District neighborhood on the east bank of the Des Moines River. It's expected to open in spring 2023.

SingleSpeed got its start in a small, 1,700-square-foot facility in Cedar Falls where it still has its original taproom and a research and development center. It opened a much larger taproom in the historic former Wonder Bread production facility in Waterloo in 2017.

Owner Dave Morgan said the Des Moines location is a perfect fit for the bike-themed SingleSpeed. The building is situated on the John Pat Dorrian Trail, which follows the Des Moines River, and will have a front-row seat to improvements planned for the Scott Avenue Dam as part of the ICON Water Trails project.

"We plan to really lean into the outdoor aspect and connect with the Des Moines trail network and the river that is right behind us," Morgan said. "We're going to lean heavy into the exterior design of this to make sure we can have a ton of fun ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MA: Tree House Brewing Company to expand north of Boston
Tree House Brewing Company plans to expand north of Boston, Boston.com reported on May 6.

The Charlton-based brewing company announced May 6 that it will purchase the Tewksbury Country Club, a golf and wedding venue in Tewksbury.

Tree House Brewing Company, founded in 2011, is regularly ranked among the top breweries in Massachusetts. The non-distributing brewery is known for its lines of faithful fans.

The club announced plans to sell the property on May 5, writing on social media: “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that after 25 wonderful years we have made the very difficult decision to sell the Tewksbury Country Club.”

Marc Ginsburg, the country club’s owner, told Boston.com he had no plans of selling the property, which he envisioned his grandchildren running some day. But when Tree House Brewing Company reached out in the last several weeks with an offer, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic compelled him to take it.

“We lost millions of dollars here,” Ginsburg said. “The emotional toll of everybody involved was hard. I don’t trust that it can’t happen again. I can’t go through that again.”

All 2022 events will go on as planned, he said, but the club will not accept any bookings ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MO: Friendship Brewing Company lays out plans for future brewery
Their motto is “Friends making beer, beer making friends," and that is what we can expect when doors open at the new Friendship Brewing Company in Hannibal, 1070 KHMO AM reported on May 6.

Owners Brian Nolan and David Brewer are ready to dive into the former Mark Twain Brewing Company location to renovate and redesign the front facade of the historic building.

“We want to give this building the full attention it deserves by making necessary updates while keeping the flavor of the historic building,” Brewer said. “We believe the residents of Hannibal have waited a long time to see something spectacular come from this building. We cannot wait to open our doors to them and serve some of the finest locally brewed craft beers in a friendly environment.”

There are a few major changes that we will see including the new front entrance now will be on Main Street and there will be some major curb appeal at the north end of the building. By doing this, Nolan and Brewer hope that this will attract visitors from the downtown Hannibal area. There will also be a "significant" beer garden space added that will connect to the taproom. This will allow for ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NY: Darling Brewing Co. closes its Patchogue brewery and taproom down
Darling Brewing Co. unexpectedly announced on social media that it has closed its Patchogue brewery and taproom and plans to relocate to an unnamed location on the East End. The news took patrons of the brewery by surprise, as Darling was just two months away from marking its second anniversary, the Long Island Press reported on May 7.

Darling opened its taproom in July 2020 soon after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and attracted a loyal following for the inventive craft beers of head brewer and co-owner Chris Dougherty. Dougherty came onboard as part of the reboot of Patchogue Beer Project, which had opened in that location in early 2019 and closed in early 2020 before the pandemic shutdown. He joined with co-owner Mckensie DiSpirito to rebrand the brewery as Darling Brewing and retool its 5-barrel brewing system to ramp up production and quality.

Dougherty, who was previously a head brewer at Barrier Brewing in Oceanside and Rockaway Brewing in Queens, is an avid reader and helped develop Darling’s name, which comes from a piece of advice for writers attributed to William Faulkner. He said, “In writing, you must kill all your darlings.” Faulkner was actually repeating advice given by an ...More info on site

Barley news France: Winter and spring barley crops condition slightly downgraded
The crop conditions of winter cereals in France eased slightly in the last week of April, farm office FranceAgriMer said on May 6, ahead of a hot and dry spell that has raised concern among traders, the Business Recorder reported.

An estimated 89% of the French soft wheat crop was in good or excellent condition in the week to May 2, down from 91% the previous week but above a score of 79% a year earlier.

A leading technical institute said on May 5 hot and dry weather expected later this month in France, Europe’s biggest grain producer and exporter, would cause irreversible damage to grain crops. For other cereals, crop ratings also slightly eased compared with the previous week.

The good/excellent scores for winter barley lost one point to 86% from 87% the previous week while 88% of the spring barley crop was estimated in good/excellent condition, down from 91% the previous week, FranceAgriMer said in a weekly cereal crop report.

For spring crops, some 84% of the expected grain maize area had been planted by May 2, compared with 60% progress the previous week and 87% seen a year ago.

Brewery news Kenya: Kenyan brewer overcomes red tape to launch craft beer brand
In a market that had relatively few varieties of beer available, a Kenyan brewing company overcame stifling red tape to launch its craft beer brand, the How We Made It in Africa reported on May 10.

In 2011, Eoin Flinn and his wife Megan Root moved to Kenya because they saw enormous potential in the country’s infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Back home, in Ireland, all the roads were already built, he says in a thick Irish brogue.

“We wanted to start a manufacturing business, using as much local raw materials as possible, hiring local people and selling into the domestic market.”

After dabbling in homemade soaps, green cleaning products and kombucha from a makeshift lab in their back garden for a few years, the enterprising couple turned their eye to craft beers.

“Craft beer was something we wanted to see on the market ourselves as consumers, and I thought it would be a much easier and faster business to grow than our kombucha and cleaning products business.”

With little in the way of craft brewing experience, Flinn and his wife teamed up with two American brothers who were home brewers and founded 254 Brewing.

The company started tinkering around in their micro-factory making IPAs and different ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company pledges to achieve zero carbon footprint and water waste by 2030
Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC) has pledged to achieve a zero carbon footprint and water waste at its breweries by 2030, according to a new sustainability report released on May 10.

Detailed in the company’s first sustainability report since the joint venture between Carlsberg UK and Marston’s Beer Company in November 2020, the business outlined commitments for its sustainability programme, Together Towards Zero, comprising four components – zero carbon footprint, zero water waste, zero irresponsible drinking and zero accidents culture.

CMBC boss Paul Davies said: “We remain committed to executing the strategy and targets set out in the Carlsberg Group’s sustainability programme, Together Towards Zero.

“The ambitious actions ahead will require the engagement of our talented people and our valued partners, from customers to suppliers and others across our value chain.”

According to the report, Carlsberg saw a 15% reduction in carbon emissions at its breweries between 2015 and 2021 as well as a 16% reduction in beer-in-hand carbon footprint from 2015 to 2019 and has pledged to achieve zero carbon emissions at its breweries by 2030.

In order to achieve these goals, Carlsberg has aimed for a 50% reduction in carbon emissions at its breweries during 2022 by ensuring 100% of its electricity comes ...More info on site
