Brewery news USA: Most beer drinkers have not changed their buying habits despite accelerating inflation – Molson Coors
As consumers turn to cheaper-priced offerings in a bid to save money as inflation accelerates, the head of Molson Coors Beverage said so far, most beer drinkers have not changed their buying habits.

Gavin Hattersley, CEO of the alcohol giant behind Coors Pure Organic Light Beer and Blue Moon, said in many cases people are choosing to forgo a night out and instead purchase a higher-end brew to enjoy at home.

“We haven’t seen [a shift down to lower-price beers] yet,” Hattersley said in an interview after addressing a Chicago business executive group in late May. “It wouldn’t surprise me if it happens as inflation, gas prices and things start doing really bad. But we haven’t seen it.”

The divergence stands in sharp contrast to comments made last month by private-label manufacturer TreeHouse Foods and retail juggernaut Walmart.

Walmart told analysts that consumers are moving from brand names to private label substitutes in deli, lunch meat, bacon and dairy. TreeHouse Foods’ CEO Steve Oakland noted around the same time that consumers are looking to private label “as they manage a higher cost macro environment and seek better value.”

The strength in beer is a much-needed reprieve for many of the category’s iconic brands. For ...More info on site

Brewery news Japan: All four major brewers to hike prices in October
Sapporo Breweries Ltd. said on June 2 that it will raise the shipment prices of a total of 121 beer and canned "chuhai" alcoholic beverages, including its mainstay Black Label beer on Oct. 1, JiJi Press reported.

Three other major Japanese beer makers - Kirin Brewery Co., Asahi Breweries Ltd. and Suntory Beer Ltd. - have already announced their plans to raise prices on the same day.

Brewery news USA & Japan: Great Dane Brewing to open production brewery in Japan
Madison, Wisconsin-based Great Dane Brewing is going global, NBC15 reported on June 2.

The brewery announced on June 2 that after planning for several years, it will finally be making a production brewery and tasting room in Japan.

The brewery will be located in Akiu Onsen, Sendai, which is about two hours north of Tokyo. It will focus on canned and bottled beers that will be sold throughout the country, co-founder and brewmaster Rob LoBreglio explained.

“This is a dream come true,” LoBreglio said. “I get to work alongside some great people and close friends who are so dedicated to strengthening the craft beer industry in Japan. Along with featuring current Great Dane beers, we plan to create a range of new beers. We’re going to have a lot of fun with it and will certainly bring some of those recipes to Wisconsin.”

A Great Dane Brewing business in Japan has been a long time coming, as LoBreglio reminisced about visiting Japan regularly for several years and meeting Tetsuya Kiyosawa in the mid ‘90s through his brother. He said Kiyosawa was passionate about joining the craft beer industry, which was not hugely popular at the time, and Kiyosawa then trained under LoBreglio for two ...More info on site

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia to increase prices of some of its products from July
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd said it will increase the prices of some of its products from July 1 due to rising input costs, The Edge Markets reported on June 2.

In a document sighted by The Edge, Carlsberg said that despite its cost-mitigation efforts, the group had to “adjust” the prices of the products because of the increasing input costs worsened by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“We wish to inform you that due to the unprecedented escalation in input costs, which is further exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, we have taken the decision to implement price adjustments for a selection of our products,” the brewer said.

The new prices for the group’s beer, stout and cider will take effect from July 1, said Carlsberg, adding that retail selling price remains at the sole discretion of the retailers.

“Despite our best efforts to mitigate this price adjustment with several cost control measures, including absorbing partial input costs, we are unable to sustain the increasing cost inflation,” said Carlsberg.

The brewer said it is cognizant that a price adjustment in the current tough environment is a challenge for all parties, and has therefore limited the price hike to selected brands and SKUs (stock-keeping units).

Shares in Carlsberg ended 20 ...More info on site
