UK: Brewdog approached Heineken about partial sale - BBC

Brewdog's CEO James Watt was involved in preliminary discussions about a potential sale of part of the firm to rivals Heineken, the BBC has learned.
Leaked emails from 2018 reveal he told Heineken he was "open to being more pragmatic in our views on independence".
He previously criticised craft brewers for "selling out" to bigger companies.
Brewdog said the BBC's reporting had demonstrated "vindictive scrutiny and malicious criticism" of the beer firm.
The beer company has not directly responded to the new disclosures.
The BBC understands the Heineken discussions did not progress beyond the preliminary stage.
The Ellon-based company has trailblazed a crowdfunding model since it was launched in Fraserburgh in 2007 by Mr Watt and co-founder Martin Dickie. More than £100m has been raised by around 200,000 "equity punks", or shareholders.
In January 2022, a BBC Disclosure programme, The Truth About Brewdog, detailed claims of a toxic workplace and inappropriate behaviour by the CEO.
Mr Watt denied behaving inappropriately and apologised to anyone who has felt uncomfortable because of his behaviour. Brewdog has submitted a complaint about the programme to the broadcasting regulator, Ofcom.
Mr Watt has consistently said his aim is to float the company on the stock market, also known as an initial public offering (IPO).

The brewery unit of Thai Beverage Pcl and a Chinese supplier of a material used in batteries started gauging demand for share sales in Singapore and Hong Kong, respectively, testing appetite in a tough market for listings globally, Bloomberg reported on June 20.
ThaiBev’s BeerCo. initial public offering could raise between $800 million and $1 billion through the Singapore IPO, people familiar with the matter said last month. At the top of that range, it would be the biggest offering in the city since 2017, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
In Hong Kong, Tianqi Lithium Corp. also began pre-marketing its shares for an offering that could raise between $1 billion to $1.2 billion. It could potentially be the largest listing in the Asian financial hub since August, as large-size deals vanished this year. The company already trades in Shenzhen’s exchange, where the stock is up 11% year-to-date.

The Netherlands: Heineken increasing its prices this summer
|
Netherlands residents will pay considerably more for Heineken beer on the terraces and in stores this summer. The Dutch brewer is increasing its prices, a spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl after reports in De Telegraaf.
Heineken is increasing the prices paid by bars and restaurants by an average of 5.8 percent. The brewer made agreements with supermarkets about a comparable increase in prices, the spokesperson said.
Heineken informed catering entrepreneurs about the price hikes on Monday. They’ll take effect on August 1.
According to Heineken, the price hikes are inevitable due to the rising costs of energy and raw materials like grain. The company also spends more on wages, packaging material, and transport.

UK: Stella Artois introduces new 5% strength lager
|
Stella Artois has introduced a new five per cent lager in the UK after drinkers hit out at it for lowering the alcohol strength of its main brand, the Daily Mail reported on June 18.
The Belgian brewer has rolled out its new Stella Artois Unfiltered as its strongest available drink, less than two years after it dropped the strength of its original brand.
The pilsner-style beer is being marketed as an 'unfiltered premium lager' and reverses a trend of lowering alcohol levels.
It comes after drinkers were left furious when the brewer reduced the strength of its main brand from 4.8 per cent to 4.6 per cent in 2020.
The firm said the change had come due to 'health and wellness trends', and while customers hit out at the move, the brewer insisted it hadn't changed the taste.
On it's website, the brewer said the new unfiltered 'premium' lager has a 'naturally crisp and vibrant taste'.
It said: 'Our Belgian brewmasters honour the brewing methods of the past by creating this unfiltered premium lager. The absence of filtration allows the fresh flavours of malt and Saaz hops to burst through for a naturally flavourful taste.

Ukraine: Ukraine starts wartime winter grain harvest

Ukraine has started its wartime winter grain harvest in the Odesa region, however, with the ongoing closure of ports and farmers’ lack of space to keep their produce, it is unlikely it will change the course of the path toward a global food crisis, The Brussels Times reported on June 19.
Before the invasion of Russia, Ukraine was seen as the “breadbasket of the world,” as it was among the biggest exporters of wheat, corn and sunflower oil. However, Russia is now preventing grain from leaving the country, resulting in food prices skyrocketing across the world and warnings of a global hunger crisis being issued.
Despite the fact that the number of ploughed fields in Ukraine has dropped by a quarter since the start of Russia’s invasion, the country’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food announced on June 18 that harvests in the country are underway, and that the areas where crops are being harvested have not decreased too significantly.

Germany: Hailstorm hits hop crop in southern Hallertau
|
In the late afternoon of June 20, 2022, a big hailstorm hit the southern part of the Hallertau. For the time being, the industry expects that approximately 1,000 ha of hops are affected. Damages vary significantly from hop garden to hop garden and range between 5 % and 100 %, HVG reported on June 21.
The grower-owned cooperative expects the heavily affected area to amount to at least 200 ha. They say they cannot quantify the total damage yet. However, they do not expect any influence on the market.
Apart from this, hops in all hop growing regions are developing well, HVG said. Some varieties have already reached the trellis’ height, the others will follow soon. There have not been any major problems with pests and diseases. The development phase which is crucial for yield and quality is yet to come.
