Brewery news USA, NC: Americana Beer Co. on tap to open in Monroe this week
The city of Monroe’s second craft brewery downtown is on tap to open this month, Aol.com reported on July 16.

Americana Beer Co. opens at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22 at 222 N. Main St.

It’s the second craft brewery in downtown. Southern Range Brewing Co. opened in 2016 at 151 S. Stewart St.

The new 2,200-square-foot brewery pays homage to the city’s history, with walls exposing the late 1800s brick of the original pharmacy spot, co-founder Alec Barnes told The Charlotte Observer.

The brewery space has an L-shaped concrete-topped bar, and high- and low-top tables with indoor seating for about 49 people. Seating also is available outdoors along the sidewalks at the corner of North Main and East Franklin streets.

Barnes, along with friends Zach Hinschberger, both of Union County, teamed up with head brewer Darren Tucker, who lives near Concord, to create Americana Beer Co. two years ago. Tucker is an award-winning home brewer, Barnes said.

The first six signature beers on tap at Americana Beer Co. are: Fog Lights Hazy IPA, Starlite American IPA, High Steppin’ Coffee Stout, Teddy Pale Ale, Indivisible Light Lager and Nine To Five Blonde Ale. Beers range from 4.5% to 7% Alcohol By Volume.

Other local craft beers, hard ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CO: Public Offering Brewing Co. announces grand opening to be held this fall in Denver
Public Offering Brewing Co. (1736 South Broadway Denver, CO 80210), a community-minded brewery in the South Broadway neighborhood, is proud to announce their grand opening this fall, TheFullPint reported on July 19.

Cheekily named, in part, due to Founder Cody Higginbottom’s investment banking background, the financial associations stop there. Instead, Public Offering’s name is a nod to the idea that beer isn’t the only offering made to the public—the whole brewery is.

“The entire concept of the brewery is creating a place where everyone not only feels a connection to the brewery but that they feel like they’re a part of it,” says Higginbottom. “For so many people, beer can be a common bond and the catalyst for conversation and friendship. We just want to take it one step further and make our customers and community feel like our brewery is their brewery and create one big neighborhood of beer loving friends.”

Higginbottom worked with Chord Design Studio and Novum Contracting Group to bring his vision of the brewery to life. Anchoring the taproom are views of the 10-barrel brewhouse which is enclosed with floor-to-ceiling windows with bar seating all around that allow guests to see the entire process from grain to glass. ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, FL: Sun King Brewery to open to public in Sarasota on Friday, July 22
A nationally acclaimed brewery has revealed the opening date for its new Sarasota location, taking over the former space of another craft beer purveyor, the Herald Tribune reported.

Sun King Brewery will open to the public on Friday, July 22 at 1215 Mango Ave., which previously housed JDub's Brewing Company, now operating out of Brew Theory in Orlando. It will be the first brewery and taproom outside of Indiana for Sun King, which has six locations in that state, including one opening the same day as Sarasota.

Sun King co-founder and co-CEO Clay Robinson said their vice president of sales Joe Burns is a longtime Sarasota-Manatee resident, with the brewery starting to distribute in Florida about five years ago due to his relationship with the area. Sun King's success in the state made them look at a Florida taproom next, with Robinson now in the process of moving to Sarasota.

"We decided that it might be a good opportunity, as we are Sun King and Florida’s the Sunshine State, and people seem to like our beers down there, if we could look for an opportunity to be local,” Robinson said.

The Sarasota location will feature 10 beers on tap, including year-round staples such as ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TX: Casa Blanca Brewing Co. eyeing opening in Corpus Christi this fall
After brewing beer at home for six years, Baltazar Ramirez Jr. plans to use his skills to make a profit off his hobby, the Caller Times reported.

The 27-year-old Corpus Christi resident plans to open Casa Blanca Brewing Co., a micro brewery, at 615 Hancock Avenue this fall. The 1,500-square-foot space will be able to seat up to 25 people. The structure, which is near Vernon's bar, used to be a dry cleaners but has sat vacant in recent years.

"It's kind of like when people barbecue -- they like the whole process, and they like to just get the fire going, season the meant, and present their product at the end of it. Same thing here -- I'd like to just do a whole brewing process and then present a beer at the end of it all when fermentation is done," he said.

The microbrewery will be named in honor of an old bar in San Diego, Texas, Ramirez's hometown. Casa Blanca Bar opened in the late 1800s or early 1900s and closed in the early 2000s, he said.

"It's about as old as our church in San Diego," Ramirez said.

Spanish and French influences will be the inspiration of the aesthetic of the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WI: Lift Bridge Brewery gets approval for plans for a new brewery in Hudson
Beer and baseball will soon be coming to Hudson in a big way, Yahoo reported on July 19.

The Hudson City Council on July 18 unanimously approved Lift Bridge Brewery’s plans to build a new brewery and taproom at the former St. Croix Meadows dog track site in Hudson.

The project also includes an amateur baseball stadium for the St. Croix River Hounds baseball team, a Northwoods League team that will be made up of top college players competing during the summer season.

The brewery and ballpark are expected to open in June.

The council approved a preliminary plan and a developer’s agreement that includes a 33,000-square-foot, two-story brewery with a proposed future 20,000-square-foot expansion. Also in the plan: a 17,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden; a 3,500-square-foot taproom and restaurant, and a dedicated event space that could accommodate more than 300 people.

Lift Bridge Brewery, started in 2008, currently has taprooms in Stillwater and New Richmond – and plans call for them both to remain in operation.

“This is an expansion,” said Brad Glynn, co-owner and vice president of marketing for Lift Bridge. “Stillwater is home. I live here. We started the brewery here.”

This expansion, Glynn said, will allow Lift Bridge to keep up with the growing ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MI: Heights Brewing coming to Farmington soon
Another place to raise a glass of locally-made beer is coming to downtown Farmington, the Hometown Life reported.

Farmington residents Ryan Kavanagh and Shawn Tanner hope to open their new concept Heights Brewing in the former Page's Food and Spirits at 23621 Farmington.

Kavanagh, a homebrewer who has worked at other breweries such as Draught Horse in New Hudson, as well as Dragonmead and Kuhnhenn breweries in Warren, said he's excited at bringing their own spin on a brewery in the community they call home.

"I've wanted to branch out and start my own brewery and no better place than in this beautiful city here," he said. "It's just an awesome community to be a part of."

The brewery would feature a different look on the exterior, which requires some approvals from the city. The project went before the city's planning commission July 11, which recommended approval of the plans.

The brewery would feature an array of beers crafted by the brewery, as well as drink options such as wine, mead and more. It would also serve up a host of smoked dishes such as ribs, chicken and more. The restaurant will also have a small section of outdoor seating as a part of the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TN: One19 Craft Kitchen & Brewery builds on Dickson’s first brewery foundation
The ideas for One19 Craft Kitchen & Brewery started late last year, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

Dickson’s Furnace Brewing went up for sale in December and Morgan Kincaid Chandler, along with her father Richard Kincaid and Mark “Uncle Duke” Durant, knew it was too good an opportunity to pass up.

It was a perfect fit, both for the new owners and for Dickson. Chandler said the brewery was a great place to continue to “grow a hospitality and guest-driven business.”

“We all recognized Dickson was a growing community and we wanted to be a part of that growth,” Chandler said.

So, One19 Craft Kitchen & Brewery was born. The name comes from the address, which has been emblazoned on the front gates for several years.

“We have a high passion for providing a real food experience, something Dickson doesn't have much of,” Chandler said.

The One19 food menu is a revolving and evolving blackboard list of burgers, sandwiches, tacos, dips and the “Big Helga”, the popular giant pretzel hung from a metal stand.

Also, on Mondays they have a popular ‘Italian Takeover” by Louie’s Linguine.

Soon, One19 will have a “beer and craft cocktail program Dickson has never seen,” Chandler said.

Chandler grew up ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, ON: Compass Brewing closing its doors at the end of July
A Timmins, Ontario brewery is closing its doors at the end of the month, TimminsToday.com reported on July 19.

Compass Brewing — which is known for locally brewed beers such as La Grisette, Johnny Jones Amber Ale, Polar Day and Polar Light — recently announced its pending closure.

“Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances we decided to close the brewery,” Kevin Patriquin, president of Compass Brewing, announced on Facebook. “We’ve been struggling for the past two years to stay alive.

“Covid, and other factors like rent increases, lead to this decision.”

The pandemic has been a strain on many businesses, large and small. Supply chains and rising prices have impacted many businesses.

“With no money to purchase ingredients and supplies, we are running very low on stock,” Patriquin continued. “With no luck securing any investors, we have no other option to close our doors at as of the end of July.”

The brewery, located at 1300 Riverside Dr., Unit 20, will be open from Wednesday to Friday, subject to change, until the end of the month.

Patriquin went on to thank Compass Brewing customers for their support.

“We thank you all for a great four years and appreciate each and every one of our valuable clients who we’ve ...More info on site

Brewery news India: United Breweries to enhance its product line
The beer market is gaining prominence in India owing to a rise in disposable incomes, popularity of low-alcohol beverages and growing social acceptance, United Breweries Ltd said.

The company, which is controlled by Dutch brewing firm Heineken NV, intends to enhance its product line through innovation thus catering to a larger audience, both in India and abroad, according to the latest annual report of UBL (United Breweries Ltd).

"We intend to leverage and contribute to the in-house expertise of Heineken thus augmenting our mutual growth," said UBL, adding, "Its initiatives are driven to encash the young demographics and increasing disposable income in India."

Besides, UBL also intends to fine-tune its supply chain, which is crucial in adequately catering to consumer demand, the company said in its outlook.

While discussing the industry overview, UBL said: "In India, we believe our best days are ahead of us as young people continue to choose beer as a social lubricant.

"However, it also added the industry's potential is yet to be fully unlocked owing to factors such as a relatively limited outlet universe, various government regulations and high taxation policies in most states across India. But there is concern wheat in Germany is suffering heat stress, it said.

Barley news Russia & Ukraine: Russia says document nearly ready on resuming Ukraine grain exports
Russia's proposals on how to resume Ukrainian grain exports were "largely supported" by negotiators at talks last week in Istanbul and an agreement is close, the Russian defence ministry said on July 15, Reuters reported.

The ministry said that work on what it calls the "Black Sea Initiative" will be finalised soon.

"Russia has proposed measures to ensure the transportation of food to foreign countries, including Russian partners, to rule out the use of supply chains to supply the Kyiv regime with weapons and military equipment, as well as to prevent provocations," it said.

Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations are due to sign a deal next week aimed at resuming Black Sea grain exports from Ukraine, which have been severely hampered by the war there.

Russia's Feb. 24 invasion has stalled exports from Ukraine's ports, leaving dozens of ships stranded and some 20 million tonnes of grain stuck in silos at Odesa.

Moscow has denied responsibility for worsening the food crisis, blaming instead a chilling effect from Western sanctions for slowing its own food and fertilizer exports and Ukraine for mining its Black Sea ports.

Ukraine and Russia are major global wheat suppliers, while Ukraine is a significant producer of corn and sunflower oil.
