USA: Faubourg Brewing Company merges with owner of three craft breweries
|
Faubourg Brewing Company has announced that it has merged with Made By The Water LLC, owner of three craft breweries: Oyster City based in Apalachicola, Fla.; Catawba in Asheville, N.C.; and Palmetto in Charleston, S.C., Biz New Orleans reported on September 22.
In total, Made By The Water’s assets include nine breweries in four cities throughout the southeast. Distribution covers North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The company will move its headquarters to the Faubourg Brewery facility in eastern New Orleans in a move that is expected to create new brewing, manufacturing and administrative jobs.
Faubourg said the union will allow it to continue to brew its full line of products while strengthening its distribution network.
“This merger is about making New Orleans the cultural hub of the craft beer industry in the southeast,” said Gayle Benson, owner of Faubourg Brewing Company, in a press release. “Our partnership with Made By The Water allows us to grow the Faubourg brand, and bring in a partner that is a leader in building craft beer brands. USA, GA: Pontoon Brewery announces opening of its second location in Tucker
|
The Tucker CID (Community Improvement District) announced this week that a new brewery and Korean restaurant will open soon in Tucker, On Common Ground News reported on September 22.
“We are extremely excited that Pontoon Brewery: The Lodge and Bite of Korea are set up to open in our district within the next few weeks. The Lodge’s taproom is complete and Bite of Korea’s staff is currently undergoing training,” the CID stated in its announcement. “Once all the permits have been confirmed and approved, we look forward to grabbing good food and refreshing drinks at our newest establishments.”
Pontoon Brewery, which opened its first location in Sandy Springs in 2017, is opening its second location—The Lodge—at 4720 Stone Drive in Tucker. The 33,000-square-foot facility houses a taproom, private event space, and production facility. Owners say The Lodge will give Pontoon Brewing the opportunity to expand its craft beer programs and welcome even more beer lovers to the “Pontoon Lifestyle,” inspired by the South’s beautiful lakes and waterways. The new brewery is located near Stone Mountain Park, which has two large lakes in addition to several smaller ones.

USA, NY: Two friends building new brewery in Canton
|
Bringing people together and making high-quality beer. That’s the goal for two men in St. Lawrence County as they begin the first stages of building a new brewery in Canton, wwnytv.com reported on September 22.
“I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to travel a lot for my job. So I’ve been able to have been exposed to dozens of different styles that have sort of shaped the way I brew.”
Joseph Erlichman is a biology professor at St. Lawrence University, where he teaches students about neuroscience.
While he enjoys showing students the wonders of the brain, he has an equal passion for brewing.
“I see this for me, its, you know, be a transition into retirement. I love it. It blends the science and the creativity of the brewing process and it’s a really good fit for me,” he said.
From a 30-year passion that started from his basement, Erlichman and his friend, Gary Hammond, have decided to brew that passion in Canton.
The brewery will be located in a barn off Main Street that has been in the community for more than 110 years. It was once a co-op dairy farm and a furniture store.

USA, MT: Montana’s Meadowlark Brewing launches its second brick-and-mortar location
|
Montana’s Meadowlark Brewing will soon be slinging its own cocktails along with its brews at a new second location. The Sidney, Montana-based brewery opened Meadowlark Brewing and Spirits last month; a brewery, distillery and restaurant in Billings West End. The facility features 28 taps, and later this year will house the company’s first handcrafted spirits program, Brewbound reported on September 22.
The Billings location is Meadowlark’s second brick-and-mortar location, but its first committed to craft spirits, including vodkas, gins and whiskey.
“Spirits has been a field of interest to us for a few years now,” remarked Meadowlark founder Travis Peterson. “We have all the knowledge and equipment to brew wash for distillation. Spirits seemed like a natural evolution for the business.”
The expansion to Billings marks a turning point for Meadowlark Brewing. The 24,000 sq. ft building features a 30-barrel brewhouse and ample cellar space to streamline previously inefficient production goals. Packaging has been a focus with all beer offerings moving into a 16 oz. can, previously 12 oz and 22 oz.

USA, NY: Druthers Brewing Company expects to receive its liquor license in the coming weeks
|
After delaying its grand opening last week, Druthers Brewing Company announced it expects to receive its liquor license in the coming weeks, The Daily Gazette reported on September 21.
The new Clifton Park location of Druthers Brewing Co. had been expected to open last Thursday, September 15, but announced on Monday, September 19 it would not because it was waiting on a license.
The company announced on Facebook this week that it was still waiting on its liquor license to open its new location.
The online post stated: “We apologize for the continued delay in opening our new Clifton Park location. We are waiting on our liquor license and are advised that it may be another two weeks until the license is issued. Thank you again for your patience. We can’t wait to show you the new space!”
The New York State Liquor Authority reports the application for licenses for Druthers Brewing Co. at the Clifton Park location were submitted in April 2022 and are currently listed as pending review. Druthers Brewing Co. had submitted applications for both a manufacturing license and an on-premise license.
The licensing review process is dependent on a number of factors, state liquor authority public information officer William Crowley said.

USA, MA: Clover Road Brewing Company already open in Hudson
|
There's a new brewery Hudson, and it's in a familiar location, the MetroWest Daily News reported on September 21.
Clover Road Brewing Company opened its doors Sept. 9 at 312 Main St. Local beer drinkers may recognize that spot as that of the former Ground Effect Brewing Company, which closed earlier this summer.
"This opportunity just happened to find us and we started to look into whether it was possible," said Allan Waite, co-owner of Clover Road Brewing. "That's where the name came from, we just felt we were lucky to find this opportunity."
The brewery is owned by four friends who have known one another since attending the Francis W. Parker School at Devens more than 20 years ago. Besides Waite, co-owners include John Muldoon, Jake LeBlanc and James Wong, as well as spouses and other family members.
The group has been together since high school, said Waite.
"We wanted to do something together as a group, as we don't spend as much time together as we used to, with us getting older and starting families," he said.
Clover Road Brewing will have some continuity with its predecessor. The head brewer is Marlborough native Tim Daley, who served in that capacity for Ground Effect.

Chicago-based Pilot Project Brewing has officially emerged as the buyer of Milwaukee Brewing Company’s 70,000-square-foot downtown Milwaukee production facility at 1128 N. 9th St., as well as the attached Bottlehouse 42 restaurant, the BizTimes reported on September 22.
Pilot Project Brewing, which describes itself as a first-of-its-kind brewery incubator, completed a $8 million seed round to make these purchases.
“Pilot Project was established to support creativity, diversity and innovation in an industry that often overlooks it or maintains unreasonable barriers to allow it,” said Dan Abel, Pilot Project’s co-founder and CEO. “By bringing Pilot back to Wisconsin, where Jordan and I went to school, we are introducing a business focused on catalyzing innovation to the birthplace of disruption in brewing. The Milwaukee Brewing facility is a former Pabst building, and we are eager to participate and continue the legacy of innovation rooted in this city and support creativity in brewing nationwide.”

Budweiser Putian Craft Beer Factory in China’s Fujian province has become the largest craft beer factory in the Asia-Pacific region, The Drinks Business reported on September 22.
Nestled in the Putian Hanjiang Budweiser InBev Food Industrial Park, Budweiser’s new craft beer factory is its largest craft brewery in the APAC and also the first craft brewery in Fujian, China.
The third Budweiser craft brewing factory was created in partnership with CIMC Liquid Process Technology; the company previously helped the beer giant deliver on its Budweiser Wuhan Craft Brewing Project and OB Craft Brewing Project in Korea.
Spanning around 7,450 sq metres, including offices, laboratory and a tourist corridor with an area to learn about the brewery process, the factory has the capacity to produce 10,000 tons per year of quality craft beer.
Saccharification equipment equips the factory for raw material processing, brewing and beer processing. Furthermore, energy-saving technology has been integrated into the facilities, together with a green, open layout of urban gardens to enhance its eco-friendly credentials.

Eswatini: Economic activity linked to beer contributes 2% of Eswatini’s national tax revenue
|
Eswatini’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo has disclosed that two per cent of national tax revenue collected comes from economic activity linked to beer, the New Observer reported on September 23.
The minister says there is urgency for governments to improve their partnerships and collaboration with the industry in general to positively support economic development.
The minister said this at a side meeting during the ongoing 77th United Nations General Assembly on September 22.
He stated that the beer industry in particular needed to leverage on the call by governments to rise to the occasion and ensure they work collectively for the betterment of countries’ development and sustainability.
The minister said he was aware of the last World Breweries Alliance’s (WBA) key findings from a study by Oxford Economics, assessing the economic impact of the country’s beer industry to GDP, jobs, and taxes.

Qatar: Soccer fans could be unpleasantly surprised by beer prices at World Cup

As the World Cup approaches, fans from across the world are making their way to Qatar. Consequently, they want to figure out how much they are going to spend, as it is not necessarily a cheap affair, The World Soccer Talk reported on September 22.
Outside of plane tickets, lodging and the actual game tickets, food and drink is among a traveler’s highest costs. Fans could be surprised how high the beer prices are in particular at the World Cup.
Earlier in the month, World Cup organizers announced that they will relax their position on selling beer. While they will sell alcoholic beer in the area of matches, it will be a bit different than normal. Local bars do not sell alcohol. Fans looking to take in a taste of beer will need to find different avenues.
Hotels will provide beer around stadiums that host the matches. However, prices are not exactly ideal. A regular bottle of beer will reportedly cost between $10 to $15. Draft beer will be even more expensive. A half liter (about 17 ounces) of draft beer could set back fans up to $17.50.
