USA, TX: Diageo acquires Texas craft distiller Balconies Distilling
|
Diageo announced on November 2 it has acquired Balcones Distilling (‘Balcones’), a Texas craft distiller and one of the leading producers of American Single Malt Whisky in the United States.
Founded in Waco, Texas in 2008, Balcones is a celebrated player in the emerging whisk(e)y movement in Texas, with a diverse portfolio of award-winning super premium and above whiskies, including Texas “1” American Single Malt, Lineage American Single Malt and Baby Blue Corn Whisky. Balcones embraces Texas’ intense heat as well as its temperature fluctuations to create whiskies with differentiated flavours. The team also leverages distinctive high quality, and often locally sourced, original ingredients, including Texas-grown malted barley and roasted blue corn, to produce a range of highly decorated whiskies.
The super-premium and above whisk(e)y segment has seen consistent volume growth in the US in recent years, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.3% from 2016 to 2021. Within that, American Single Malt Whisky has been a driver of momentum, with 18.2% CAGR over the same period, Diageo said.
Claudia Schubert, President, Diageo North America, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Balcones Distilling into Diageo. The Balcones team are true innovators and pioneers in the emerging American Single Malt and Texas

Public Offering Brewing Co. (1736 South Broadway Denver, CO 80210) is pleased to announce the brewery’s grand opening celebration on Friday, Nov. 18 – Sunday, Nov. 20. The weekend-long bash will include a variety of Public Offering beers, food trucks, as well as brewery tours and live music from Lola Rising on Saturday, November 19, Brewbound.com reported.
For Public Offering Founder Cody Higginbottom, the stop-and-go nature of the past few months has been grueling but now he’s excited to open the brewery to the public and see his dream come to reality.
“It’s a huge relief to feel like we finally have some sense of control over our own destiny. The support, love and patience that our friends, family and surrounding neighbors and community have shown us the past several months has been amazing and it’s really helped us carry on,” says Higginbottom. “There’s been so much anticipation from everyone, including our team, for our opening, so we’re ecstatic that we finally have the opportunity to share what we’ve been building the past several years.”

USA, WI: Foxtown Brewing coming to downtown Milwaukee
|
A new brewery is coming to downtown Milwaukee. Foxtown Brewing, based out of Mequon, will be opening a new facility on the vacant riverfront site near St. Paul and Plankinton, TMJ4 reported on November 2.
According to a news release, it will be adjacent to the proposed dog park in that area.
In announcing the news of the new development, Foxtown Brewing also announced itself as a title sponsor of the Downtown Dog Park.
"When we learned about the dog park project, we began exploring the larger opportunity to develop a true ‘dog district’ where people and their pets can gather along the river at the nexus of where the Historic Third Ward and Downtown meet,” said Tom Nieman, President of Fromm Family Pet Food. "We see this as a natural fit for us and a game changer for the City of Milwaukee.”
The new facility will be multiple stories and will house a taproom, distillery, and restaurant with large pet-friendly outdoor spaces that will overlook the river. There will also be a rooftop patio and balcony.
