Brewery news USA, KS: Transport Brewery announces opening of second location in March
After delays, Transport Brewery has finally announced the opening of their second location in March, the Garnder News reported on February 7.

Brewery owners and the operations director gave The Gardner News a sneak peak of the former Gardner Health Mart Pharmacy space at 131 E. Main Street.

Jason Lieb, Chamber of Commerce president, is part owner and said they are ready to get the beer tanks out, open and serve the Gardner community.

Christie Jackson, operations director, said Gardner is an untapped market for a beer loving community.

“There are a lot of people down here that want somewhere they can go to close to home,” she said.

Jackson said the brewery will continue their Shawnee location ideals of being a fun and inclusive place for family and friends. Gardner reminds them of the same feeling Shawnee has provided them.

“If you put out a good beer and welcome environment you will be accepted,” she said.

Jackson said they are excited to partner with area businesses, organi-zations, non-profits and charities, grow together with the community and bring new activity to downtown Gardner.

When asked about being the second brewery to open in Gardner after Exbeeriment, 925 E. Lincoln Lane, opened during the pandemic in August 2020, Jackson ...More info on site

Hops news New Zealand: NZ Hops releases brand-new hop variety Superdelic
A New Zealand hops company has released its brand-new hop variety that has been in the works for more than 10 years, Stuff.co.nz reported on February 10.

Called Superdelic, the variety was developed by NZ Hops at Plant and Food Research and general manager Blair Stewart said its release was expected to “create a frenzy”.

“This exceptional hop is a playful number, with red fruit, candy, citrus and tropical fruit characteristics, offering brewers something totally different to use in their craft.”

More than 85% of New Zealand-grown hops are exported, with a turnover of around NZ$40 million, and with the newly released Superdelic following closely behind Nectaron in the growing NZ Hops Ltd brand there are expectations it will also be successful.

“Demand for Nectaron grows every year, and we expect the same with Superdelic,” Stewart said in an emailed statement.

Scientist Kerry Templeton led the hop breeding programme and said it was an amazing milestone to see a new variety enter the market after years of work.

“Its excellent yield potential will allow growers to produce high-quality hops more efficiently and sustainably.

“In the brewers’ hands, new and interesting beers will come from Superdelic’s unique flavour and aroma profile.”

Through NZ Hops’ Bract Brewing Programme, some global ...More info on site

Barley news Russia & EU: Russia accuses EU of failing to deliver on its grain corridor promises
Russia said on February 8 that work to unblock Russian exports under the Black Sea grain deal was unsatisfactory, accusing the European Union of failing to deliver on its promises, the TASS news agency reported.

The comments, made by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, refer to the United Nations-brokered agreement between Moscow and Kyiv that aimed to free up grain exports held up at Black Sea ports by the war in Ukraine.

President Vladimir Putin said last year that Russia and the developing world had been "cheated" by the Ukrainian grain export deal, vowing to revise its terms to limit the countries that can receive shipments.

Brewery news Qatar: How Budweiser trackled beer-free World Cup
Eelco van der Noll knew something was up when he received a WhatsApp message asking him to join a call with FIFA. It was just two days before the first kickoff of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and Anheuser-Busch InBev’s global vice president of experiential marketing was at the W Hotel in Doha, Qatar, overseeing finishing touches on what was to be Budweiser’s most expensive sponsorship to date, the Wall Street Journal reported on February 9.

The news landed on Zoom: Qatari officials had changed their minds about selling alcohol around stadiums before and after games. Beer, as global headlines soon announced, was being booted out of the World Cup.

“I just really thought, ‘This cannot be true’,” Mr. van der Noll said. “This is a bad joke.”

Budweiser was forced to rip up much of the plan it had been working on for years and write a new one in days. In the end, the brewer found a way to navigate the World Cup beer-free and roll with the media attention that the alcohol ban generated.

“One of the messages you really want to get across if you’re AB InBev is that beer is integral to sporting events,” said Tim Calkins, a marketing ...More info on site
