Mexico: Brewery company interested in setting up in the Industrial Zone of San Luis Potosi
|
Juan Carlos Valladares Eichelmann, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO), said that the agency has a negotiation, which he described as “very advanced”, with a brewery company interested in setting up in the Industrial Zone of San Luis Potosi, Mexico Now reported on February 10.
In this sense, as on past occasions, the official explained that for the moment there is discretion and general aspects of the corporation are reserved, but the objective is to attract an industry that adds competitiveness and better paying jobs to the state, this time hand in hand with the brewing sector.
Regarding the environmental and water consumption challenges that a company dedicated to beer production could imply, Valladares Eichelmann pointed out that the agency prioritizes environmental care aspects and is assuming with responsibility that any investment made complies with these aspects.
“We attract investments according to the conditions that we can generate, we cannot make mistakes in that, the work that is carried out is very punctual”, he added.
Currently, in Mexico, two companies dominate the beer industry nationally and internationally through two large groups: Grupo Modelo and Heineken México, formerly known as “Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma”.
Both produce well-known brands such as Corona Extra, León, Modelo Especial,

Laos: Lao Brewery Company introduces Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 in Laos
|
Lao Brewery Company, a leading beverage manufacturer and distributor in Laos, has introduced two imported brands of non-alcoholic drinks – Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 – for the domestic market under the concept “Free Feels Good”, The Star reported.
These two products are becoming very popular in global markets as they pass through a high-quality manufacturing process that is accepted internationally.
Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 provide a choice for people to drink and socialize during various occasions and events. The two types of non-alcoholic drinks are available at various stores only in Vientiane.
Non-alcoholic beverages are becoming increasingly popular around the world. In most of the European Union and the United States, a beer can be called alcohol-free it if contains less than 0.5 percent alcohol.
In the UK, a beer brewed within the country can only be labeled alcohol-free if it has less than 0.05 percent alcohol. If a UK brew is 0.5 percent, it can only be labeled as “de-alcoholized”, according to a report from BBC.
The creative manufacturing of non-alcoholic drinks provides an alternative choice for those who want to avoid drinking alcohol for certain reasons, including religious beliefs, health benefits, personal preferences, and driving responsibilities.
Non-alcoholic beverages have become more acceptable

Kenya: EABL stock price hits 52-week high on Diageo purchase plan
|
EABL share price soared to close at a 52-week high of Sh181.25 on February 13 on the back of plans by Diageo to purchase additional shares in the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firm.
The gains close the gap between EABL’s prevailing stock price and the Sh192 per share offer by its parent firm Diageo, which is seeking to buy an additional 118.4 million shares in a bid to raise its stake to 65 percent.
It represents a gain of 31.3 percent compared to the closing price of Sh138 on the last day of trading before Diageo disclosed its offer on October 14, 2022.
Diageo’s move to increase its stake in EABL after taking a controlling stake in the company from its Guinness subsidiary in 2000 is seen as a vote of confidence in the business, which reported flat profit in the six months to December as higher costs and taxation offset gains in sales for the period.
The offer to purchase shares, which gives priority to investors in the firm’s books by January 16, is expected to run in two phases, the first between February 6-24 and between February 27-March 17.
The move to prioritise early bidders in the offer is set to reward existing shareholders

France: Farm ministry increases forecast for winter barley, soft wheat areas
|
France's farm ministry on February 14 increased slightly its estimate of the area sown with soft wheat for the 2023 harvest, while making a sharper upward revision for rapeseed sowing, Reuters reported.
The winter soft wheat area was now seen at 4.76 million hectares, compared with an initial estimate of 4.75 million in December.
The new estimate was up 2% compared with the area harvested in 2022 and 0.4% higher than the average of the past five years, the ministry said in a crop report.
For winter rapeseed, the expected area for this year's harvest was increased to 1.34 million hectares from 1.29 million estimated in December, now 9% above last year's level and nearly 11% higher than the five-year average.
France is the European Union's biggest grain grower and soft wheat and rapeseed are, respectively, its most produced cereal and oilseed crops.
Winter soft wheat and rapeseed account for almost all production of the crops in France.
For barley, the ministry raised its estimate of the winter area to 1.34 million hectares from an initial projection of 1.30 million. That was 3.7% up from last year and 7% above the five-year mean.
Barley production in France includes a significant amount of spring crop. The ministry is
