Mexico: Brewery company interested in setting up in the Industrial Zone of San Luis Potosi
|
Juan Carlos Valladares Eichelmann, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO), said that the agency has a negotiation, which he described as “very advanced”, with a brewery company interested in setting up in the Industrial Zone of San Luis Potosi, Mexico Now reported on February 10.
In this sense, as on past occasions, the official explained that for the moment there is discretion and general aspects of the corporation are reserved, but the objective is to attract an industry that adds competitiveness and better paying jobs to the state, this time hand in hand with the brewing sector.
Regarding the environmental and water consumption challenges that a company dedicated to beer production could imply, Valladares Eichelmann pointed out that the agency prioritizes environmental care aspects and is assuming with responsibility that any investment made complies with these aspects.
“We attract investments according to the conditions that we can generate, we cannot make mistakes in that, the work that is carried out is very punctual”, he added.
Currently, in Mexico, two companies dominate the beer industry nationally and internationally through two large groups: Grupo Modelo and Heineken México, formerly known as “Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma”.
Both produce well-known brands such as Corona Extra, León, Modelo Especial,

USA, KS: 11 Worth Station Brewhouse slated to open in Leavenworth in the spring or summer of 2023
|
Leavenworth will soon be the home to the new 11 Worth Station Brewhouse, Flatland KC reported on February 14.
The brewery’s owners, brothers David and Johnny Burrows, aren’t strangers to the beer industry. David is the father of Bri Burrows, owner of North Kansas City’s Big Rip Brewing Co. Michael Burrows, an avid homebrewer and also David’s son, spent time working at Stockyards Brewing in the West Bottoms. The family had heavy ties to the Missouri Mashers Homebrew Club before taking their talents pro.
Construction of the new brewery started in September 2022 and is slated to open in the spring or summer of 2023. The brewery, located at 305 Cherokee St., will have a railroad theme in honor of the history of the railroads in Leavenworth.
Even though it’s not open yet, the brewery has been partnering with various businesses and offering samplings of their beers.

USA, GA: Frog Rock Brewing Company coming to downtown Austell later this year
|
A brewery is coming to downtown Austell later this year, the developer of a mixed-use project announced.
According to Yahoo News, Frog Rock Brewing Company has signed a lease in the new development, dubbed "Cincinnati Junction," and will open in late spring or early summer, according to Andrew Lundstrom, the project's developer.
The brewery's interior will draw inspiration from the city's history — Austell was once known as Salt Springs, due to springs with supposedly medicinal qualities that were popular in the 19th century.
"Through name and environment, the brewery draws inspiration from the historic Frog Rock effigy at Louis Suggs Park and Austell's rich past as a healing destination," the developer said in a press release. "The taproom interiors plan to feature materials sourced from nature. This design is a direct reflection of the brewery's tie to local natural assets."
Frog Rock also plans to have an outdoor beer garden with seating, fire pits and string lights, a bocce ball court and a music stage. Frog Rock will be the city's first microbrewery, per the developer.
The brewery will join Austell CoWork, already open at the development. Two other businesses — a photo studio and a clothing boutique — have also signed leases, according

USA, WI: Cocoon Brewing already open in De Pere area
|
After three years of planning, including during the pandemic, and dealing with supply chain issues, De Pere resident Matt Walters and his brother Mike were finally able to accomplish their dream of opening their own brewery, NBC26 reported on February 11.
Cocoon Brewing is in Ledgeview, just outside of De Pere.
The business celebrated its opening this past weekend, after overcoming many challenges before being able to open.
"There was curve ball after curve ball in the project from, you know, losing the banking funding to waiting for windows to come in or just endless numbers of small hurdles," said Walters.
Walters says he decided to set up his own brewery in his garage one day six years ago. He never knew that small garage brewery would one day grow into what it has become now.
"I had a little extra time on my hands on the weekend one day and i just said I'm going to try to brew a batch of beer, and that went decently, so i just kept adding equipment to my kitchen and then my garage," said Walters.
While Wisconsin is famous for its breweries, Walters says he saw a need for one in the De Pere area with how quickly

USA, NY: Fidens Brewing Co. opening a brewpub in Albany’s warehouse district
|
Fidens Brewing Co., which opened in a Colonie industrial park in late 2018 but has outgrown its ability to serve retail customers at the location, will open a brewpub in the coming months in Albany's warehouse district, a co-owner was quoted as saying by the Times Union on February 13.
Also called Fidens Brewing, the operation takes over an 11,000-square-foot restaurant space at 897 Broadway, next to Wolff's Biergarten and across from the restaurant The Copper Crow. It becomes part of a neighborhood with six existing food-and-drink establishments. A seventh, Lionheart on the Green, an extension of the venerable Lionheart Pub near Lark Street, is projected to open in the spring at 952 Broadway. Yet another beer-centric eatery, the Albany locations of Druthers Brewing, sits a little farther north on Broadway, and a cafe, wine bar and brewery satellite are planned for Slip 12, the multiuse redevelopment of the Fuck Finn property.
The 897 Broadway building, once the longtime home of a moving company, was handsomely renovated in 2017 into an industrial-style restaurant space. It has been vacant for almost three years, since the failure at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 of a business called no-ware pint & plate,

USA, NC: New brewery to open by summer in Hickory
|
By summer, there will be a new brewery in Hickory, the Hickory Daily Record reported on February 14.
The brewery will be joined next door by a barbecue restaurant before the year is out.
That is the plan of Cranford Hospitality, the company that owns two Hickory dining staples, Charolais Steakhouse and Standard Oyster Company, along with other restaurants. Cranford Hospitality is Kent Cranford and sons Zackary and Tucker Cranford.
By summer, the family plans to open City Walk Brewing and Distilling at 205 Main Ave. NE, along a portion of the City Walk, said Zackary Cranford. In late fall, he said the Cranford Brothers’ BBQ restaurant will open next door.
The brewery will feature its own brand of beer that will be brewed and distilled on-site, Zackary Cranford said. He added that City Walk beers will be made with local ingredients when possible. The brewery will also feature beers brewed nearby, in North Carolina cities such as Asheville.
The distillery tanks will be immediately visible to patrons entering from the Seventh Street entrance, Zackary Cranford said. There will also be a classic Corvette his father, Kent Cranford, restored on display at the Seventh Street entrance.
There will be a patio space outdoors capable of seating

USA, NY: Southpaw Brewing Company set to open in Yaphank in April
|
James Economou was coaching the Campbell University football team in North Carolina when the pandemic hit in 2020, the Patch reported on February 10.
Having players released and then called back to play several times became a hassle, prompting him to think his life's circumstances over.
His family also came into play.
"My sister had a child and I wanted to be closer to family," he said, noting it's common as folks enter their later parts of life. "I just felt that I wanted to be around family, and I'm very team- and family-oriented."
He wanted to be back on Long Island and close to home.
Economou's family has been involved with construction for years, and when he was working with his cousin, Thomas Neidhart of Southpaw Construction, they got to talking one day about the brewery business.
"I was like, 'Hey, man, we should do this brewery,'" he recalled.
The pair were looking originally in the Riverhead area.
"Honestly, it's heavily saturated now with a lot of breweries," Economou said. "To be a new kid on the block out there is a little bit more difficult."
Economou, who lives on the north shore, was driving one day on William Floyd Parkway when he saw a construction crew clearing

USA, MI: Drifa Brewing Company is for sale
|
Marquette’s Drifa Brewing Company is for sale. The Lake St. brewery is listed at $400,000, WLUC reported on February 10.
Re/Max 1st Realty Marquette said the location is selling as a “ready-to-use” operation, and this comes after the co-operation decided to dissolve.
“The 600-member cooperative and the 9 board members have decided to dissolve that and buy out the 600 members from their ownership of the cooperative and they will be offering this as a turnkey operation. The building is leased with some expansion room as well,” Re/Max 1st Realty Broker, Owner Fran Sevegney said.
It is located on Lake Street in south Marquette.
Sevegney said all brewing equipment, furnishings, recipes, branding, logos, website, and marketing platforms are included in the sale.
“I think that this is going to be viewed as a good investment and opportunity for someone that wants to take this formerly cooperative ownership business as a great sole proprietor endeavor,” Sevegney said.
According to Drifa’s website, the brewery remains open five days a week.

France: Farm ministry increases forecast for winter barley, soft wheat areas
|
France's farm ministry on February 14 increased slightly its estimate of the area sown with soft wheat for the 2023 harvest, while making a sharper upward revision for rapeseed sowing, Reuters reported.
The winter soft wheat area was now seen at 4.76 million hectares, compared with an initial estimate of 4.75 million in December.
The new estimate was up 2% compared with the area harvested in 2022 and 0.4% higher than the average of the past five years, the ministry said in a crop report.
For winter rapeseed, the expected area for this year's harvest was increased to 1.34 million hectares from 1.29 million estimated in December, now 9% above last year's level and nearly 11% higher than the five-year average.
France is the European Union's biggest grain grower and soft wheat and rapeseed are, respectively, its most produced cereal and oilseed crops.
Winter soft wheat and rapeseed account for almost all production of the crops in France.
For barley, the ministry raised its estimate of the winter area to 1.34 million hectares from an initial projection of 1.30 million. That was 3.7% up from last year and 7% above the five-year mean.
Barley production in France includes a significant amount of spring crop. The ministry is

Laos: Lao Brewery Company introduces Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 in Laos
|
Lao Brewery Company, a leading beverage manufacturer and distributor in Laos, has introduced two imported brands of non-alcoholic drinks – Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 – for the domestic market under the concept “Free Feels Good”, The Star reported.
These two products are becoming very popular in global markets as they pass through a high-quality manufacturing process that is accepted internationally.
Carlsberg 0.0 and Somersby 0.0 provide a choice for people to drink and socialize during various occasions and events. The two types of non-alcoholic drinks are available at various stores only in Vientiane.
Non-alcoholic beverages are becoming increasingly popular around the world. In most of the European Union and the United States, a beer can be called alcohol-free it if contains less than 0.5 percent alcohol.
In the UK, a beer brewed within the country can only be labeled alcohol-free if it has less than 0.05 percent alcohol. If a UK brew is 0.5 percent, it can only be labeled as “de-alcoholized”, according to a report from BBC.
The creative manufacturing of non-alcoholic drinks provides an alternative choice for those who want to avoid drinking alcohol for certain reasons, including religious beliefs, health benefits, personal preferences, and driving responsibilities.
Non-alcoholic beverages have become more acceptable

Kenya: EABL stock price hits 52-week high on Diageo purchase plan
|
EABL share price soared to close at a 52-week high of Sh181.25 on February 13 on the back of plans by Diageo to purchase additional shares in the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firm.
The gains close the gap between EABL’s prevailing stock price and the Sh192 per share offer by its parent firm Diageo, which is seeking to buy an additional 118.4 million shares in a bid to raise its stake to 65 percent.
It represents a gain of 31.3 percent compared to the closing price of Sh138 on the last day of trading before Diageo disclosed its offer on October 14, 2022.
Diageo’s move to increase its stake in EABL after taking a controlling stake in the company from its Guinness subsidiary in 2000 is seen as a vote of confidence in the business, which reported flat profit in the six months to December as higher costs and taxation offset gains in sales for the period.
The offer to purchase shares, which gives priority to investors in the firm’s books by January 16, is expected to run in two phases, the first between February 6-24 and between February 27-March 17.
The move to prioritise early bidders in the offer is set to reward existing shareholders
